I'm usually in the "don't throw stones/glass houses" camp, but wow is this a huge gamble. If this kid has as much as a minor infraction while at MSU, Fucktoniass will be on the hook. He'd better be, anyway...

I've noticed a sizeable uptick in the out-of-the-ordinary "variations" on names like "Dantonio" and "Meyer" as well as team names such as "Spartans" and "Buckeyes". I don't know that there's a need to go THIS far out of one's way to call someone a name other than their actual name, but as it would be impossible to police all the variants, I just tell myself such things are thoughtful parody of MLive.

I do agree with the sentiment expressed here though - I think Dantonio's stated policies are sort of on the line here, or at least they seem to be. If it doesn't work, I would imagine there's a credibility hit with that.

MSU seems pretty lenient with Dantonio and his players getting in trouble. Multiple players have gone straight from prison or jail to practice. Even the guy who flashed a gun at someone last summer saw minimal punishment. At first I was annoyed that the media didn't seem to care. Then, I realized it's MSU and no one cares.

I am still a bit cynical about Payne and Appling playing for Tom Izzo for four years and being celebrated as "great human beings," while their names never got in the paper in connection to the Wonders Hall "incident."  We all remember the football team's Great Frathouse Beatdown, etc.

Bottom line: when players at Michigan do stuff like that, they get kicked out of the program before they are even found guilty.  At MMSU, it's almost become a prerequisite for participation.

I just feel sorry for every female who steps on their campus.

I remember when you had the courage to post on mlive. You had to leave that board in shame because your annual predictions were always false (MSU would tank in football, Izzo would leave for the NBA, and so on).

All you have left is to spread lies about MSU. You can't stand the fact that MSU is better than Michigan in some things. Do you know how to google? Why don't you find the recent list of rap sheets for football players. MSU is way down on the list. Michigan is pretty high.

Here, I'll help you with the Wall Street Journal's Grid of Shame from 2014:

Grid of Shame

Congratulations, Michigan is well up in the upper right quadrant -- just a little below MSU in both categories.

Oh, here is the list of arrests from the five years prior to August 2015. (And, yes, some of those Michigan players had second chances):

Arrests

Michigan at 19, MSU tied for 49. MSU second in wins per arrest behind Northern Illinois.

Exercise: Find Michigan on that list.

you'd become accustomed to what this coach does there. And at this point, I no longer care about that school's disciplinary standards for players. By now, you should understand the object is winning at all costs, and standing by players until they play themselves out of eligibility, one way or the other.

For the first ime in years, we have a team that will go into EL this season and kick their ass up and down the field. And that's all I care about, retribution on the field of play, not whether one of their guys ought to be eligible to play in that game. Because this year, and going forward, it ain't gonna matter.

Hopefully he uses this opportunity to excel in the classroom and on the field (but not against us.)

Not a fan of throwing stones at high schoolers - we all make mistakes.

He did make 2 in less than 3 months iirc, and I don't think the charges were dropped but rather some pre-trial intervention thing happened (not a lawyer and didn't stay at a HIX last nite.)

That said, I wish him well in life and football (outside of one weekend each fall) and am sure he will get guidance and assistance to succeed (serious) from Dantonio and his band of choir boys in EL. (Not serious)

Good for the kid.

I'm not one for rooting against HS seniors just because they committed to a rival school. If everything regarding his incident was correctly cleared, and he is innocent, i hope the best for him (except on Oct. 29 2016).

I hope he can put this bad image behind him and go on to have a successful life free of any future run-ins with the law. Let this be a lesson learned.

It doesn't sound like he's innocent; the diversion program is basically in lieu of a jail sentence.

And he already got into trouble once, but those charges were dropped.

I honestly don't want to slag on a HS kid, but I was cranky about the seemingly-preferrential treatment Glasgow got after a couple drinking-related offenses, and I'm equally side-eyeing this situation.

But it's life, and Glasgow seemed to have come out better, so hopefully Robertson stays clean and has a good career.

But I see that now.

Definitely changes my sentiments towards this kid and his situation.

I agree with you that I hope this was the final act for him and he's finally learned his lesson. He better be on a very short leash in EL.

I'm not familiar with anything law related, but why allow a kid an opportunity through this diversion program when he already had previous run-ins with the law? Seems like the 2nd strike shouldn't allow for a pass without trial.

My thoughts in order:

1.  I hope the girl is doing well.

2.  There's a 0% chance that Dantonio sticks by this kid if he's a less elite prospect.  MSU is gross these days.

3.  I hope the kid gets his shit together, and I'm glad he still has an opportunity to do something.
