Leaders and Best indeed.
By the way, I am sitting in my office in South Dakota watching it snow. How's that for a humblebrag!
March 23rd, 2016 at 12:01 PM ^
am not sure why that is a humblebrag.
Sarcasm referencing the OP being in Mexico. Believe me, I would much rather be in Mexico looking out over the ocean. This snow can bite me.

It's 62 and sunny here in Fort Wayne.

Where in SD? I'm from Belle Fourche!
Sioux Falls - bit of a hike from Belle Fourche. West side of the state is beautiful.
I get the "never met anyone from South Dakota" trope all the time. Now, there are THREE OF US IN THE SAME THREAD
Its a tough job but somebody has to do it

Let's you turn an excel doc or a google spreadsheet into html. I use it often
March 23rd, 2016 at 12:08 PM ^
If you don't mind, this find might go in the Pretty Posts Sticky.
Anything to prevent tables from going all the way across the page and sometimes onto the machine next to it, and definitely easier than my method of making images of each table and then saving those to a hosting site and THEN making the HTML code for the image.
As to the OP's point though, an excellent year so far indeed - it gets lost in the extensive football, hoops and hockey coverage sometimes, but we have some excellent things going on all over the athletic department.

I don't remember where it was (and I don't see it in the Windows Live Writer post) but it's very, very useful

If these were sorted by NCAA rank, it would be much easier to read and process. Just a suggestion. Thanks!
Ask and ye shall receive when it's easy and I feel like it.

Latest Directors Cup standings: link
Partly cloudy with a high of 86° here in Dallas. No ocean here, but I'll take it!
Only checked for B1G, but all members are in top 100, wonder if any other conference has that.
Also how is Rutgers top 50? They must be really awesome at some sports that aren't football or basketball.
I believe they made a deep run in women's soccer? Possibly the championship game.. and they do decently in lacrosse, IIRC. They have traditionally been a women's basketball power, but seem to have hit a slump recently.
I'll say it again:
FUCK STANFORD.
March 23rd, 2016 at 12:32 PM ^
new ranking comes out tomorrow, we will score points in M/W track, WSwim, and wrestling.... I suspect Stanford will also be adding lots of points to their totals as well... I think the best anyone can hope for is 2nd place
Stanford in untouchable. After reading BLL I can say that DB's goal was unrealistic and he should have known it. A private university like Stanford has way more resources to dump into athletics than UM does. But we are the second highest public university so that's pretty good.
So why is Stanford so invincible in this? Is it because they are literally just that good in sports and academics simultaneously (I only know about Stanford football), or do they have a shit ton more Varsity sports than everyone else, or what is it?

They field the most (or close to it) and are competitively in most (not MBB). They score points in nearly every sport while the rest of us miss out on certain ones (fencing comes to mind).
men's water polo, beach volleyball for men's and women, fencing, men's rowing... they score highly every year in more Olympic sports that we each have, and they also have at least the ones I have listed to also score in. They've also gained points they didn't previously have with JH resurrecting football and they score highly in women's basketball... men's basketball may literally be their only subpar sport. Ohio State also offers more sports than us, but we often beat them because our Olympic teams generally outperform most of theirs--same with Penn state. We do very well considering the circumstances.
What's the cost of funding a fencing team? It seems like the easiest sport to add.
Stanford is king of the Country Club sports. Makes sense.
Also, king of the Country Club. They wouldn't want it any other way.

I remember back when I was an undergrad at UM in the early 2000s when the concession stand employees at the Stadium would fill my beverage of choice into a plastic souvenir cup that listed our school's "President's Cup" ranking since its inception. I recall noticing that we were very rarely outside of the top 5. Glad to see that we're back!

2014!
I hated that meme
How is that basketball tourney result a #32?
32 teams made the second round, so at best one that lost in the first round could claim a #33.
Or maybe a #44 as an 11 seed.
Or was that #32 based on some other season ending ranking system?
Curious.
So where does staee rank in MBB this year given their early exit?
/asking for a friend
tie for 33rd....should have been 33 not 32...for instance Sweet 16..teams that lose Reg First round will tie for 9th
So does the win against Tellllsa count as an official NCAA tournament victory?
Yes.
52-25 tourney record.
Well done. Thanks for posting.
Was checking that out myself last week. There is a link below from another poster to the Leaders Cup current tally below. We have missed out of making the top 10 for 2 years in a row. I recently undated how many times each team made it in the top 10 since its inception.

#44, surprisingly. Ahead of Indiana, Northwestern, Illinois, Iowa, Purdue, and Maryland.
4. Michigan
7. Minnesota
10. Penn State
11. Ohio State

Minnesota? What's their thing besides 2nd-place BTT Hockey?
Good question, hockey isn't even counted yet.... 18th women's CC, 19th men's CC, 26th football (unranked bowl winner), 17th women's soccer, 3rd women's volleyball.... so they did well in volleyball and made a bunch of tourney appearances in most of the other fall sports
Minnesota men's golf is pretty good but their women's sports are great. Women's hockey won the title this year and has four of the last five, volleyball went to the final four. Their swimming program is excellent.
