The last time we played ND
More last-minute craziness.
Quite an interesting, forgotten hardwood rivalry. Six previous postseason meetings (5-1 Michigan).

Obligatory....
To Hell with Notre Dame!

Hopefully summa that rubs off on us this year...
Whole lot of turtlenecks in that game
Was getting the chairs ready, assuming the game was going to OT again, and then stopped to celebrate.
the amaker days. pass the ball around the perimeter until under 10 secs then let Dion try to go hero ball. that said, i would love to have dion harris on this team.

Ah, back when sports center actually showed highlights. Those were the days!

Chances we go back to old school jerseys with Jordan?
March 17th, 2016 at 12:20 AM ^
Those were some great looking jerseys. Can't wait to go back to Nike.

The ones we have now would've been perfect if they didn't put the stupid tribal pattern on the shortz.
Surely you mean "tire tread".
with Tribal?
Nothing, as long as they can make them flash!
Giving me seizures

The AD approves the unis. Nike, adidas, Under Armor, Russel, whomever, doesn't put these uniformz out on their own.

Forgot about that nasty, little rat, Chris Quinn. ND basketball is all about people that don't look trustworthy around children (see: Head Coach Mike Brey, skeeziest looking dude ever).
March 17th, 2016 at 12:28 AM ^
Dude is beyond medicore. Has been there forever and still hasn't even made the Final Four once.
March 17th, 2016 at 12:56 AM ^
were we ever so young?
I was thinking this was the game when Petteway (sp?) swatted a last second shot in like 2004/5(?). Didnt even realize they met in the NIT (guess Im a bad fan)
I remember it well. Dion Harris
Oh man, I was at that game. Crisler was rocking, even back when the lighting was still shitty.
Very vivid memories of watching that game at a friend's apartment. Favorite part is the dude with his arms full of folding chairs by the bench who has no idea what to do with them when the shot goes down!
I remember being so damn pumped after that. Crazy it's been that long hahaha
Were you damn mad or damn pumped???
It's a split timeline situation...
Just for the hell of it
I know he underachieved at U-M but he recruited well and a few of the years we had a decent enough record to get in the tourney but got spurned, he had better records than Beilein has had in about 3 of his years and Beilein got in with a couple of those.
would have won a helluva lot more games than amaker with those players.
I wonder about this sometimes, and admittedly it is a silly thought experiment now that we're nearly ten years removed from the Amaker era basically, but that particular segment of our hoops history always seemed to me a prim example of someone doing less with more. I could be wrong about that, but I do agree that it is very easy to imagine those players most years doing much better under someone like Beilein.

Frieder was the poster child for squandering talent/gagging in the tournament.

A maker was awful. Think of other situations when a school was sanctioned. Would other fan bases be happy with a 10 year postseason drought? What if PSU did t go to a bowl game from 2013 to 2022 or USC had a 10 year drought in football. Would their fan bases defend the coach who didn't win?
Football is not basketball. And I don't think anybody is making the claim that they are happy with the performance after the sanctions.

A 17-12 regular season record is pretty average, but I'm just wondering if a third place B1G finish back then would have been good enough.
March 17th, 2016 at 10:47 AM ^
This season is not over yet so that "Round of 64" won't be there much longer.
He also failed to develop that talent. Name one guy that, from the time he walked through the doors until he left, improved significantly.

Not in league play. Amaker's teams played terrible nonconference schedules and racked up easy wins, but in Big Ten play they only managed one winning season - the year they were banned from the postseason (2003).
Perhaps even more importantly, Amaker's teams could never seem to get that key late-season win that they needed. We always were a win away and blew it.
Looked pretty similar to our last three games in a row!
Let's make it four in a row!
To hell with Notre Dame

I thought we were going to roll the NCAA after that game. Man, that shit went south in a hurry.
That is not him in the baseball video above, however.....(Yaz was a Lefty).....
I was standing directly behind the ND bench for that game and after the game Quinn was walking off the court and I said something to the effect of "Nice free throws in your last game ever" and he started crying. I probably should have felt bad but I didn't

That was a fun finish. The previous meeting in South Bend was also pretty memorable (with Harris' shot). I can't think of another time where we won a game like that on the road under Amaker and Ellerbe.
Our problems with turnovers those years was kind of like our issues with in bounding and free throws now. They were endless.
Free throws? I know this year hasn't been typical of a Beilein team from the line but they've been very good to great from the line under JB.
In general, yes, but it feels like we've struggled to put a lot of teams away at the stripe over the years. Or maybe I'm just scarred by the 2013 IU finish.
March 17th, 2016 at 11:32 AM ^
How some of those Amaker teams didn't make the NCAA tourney is still a confounding mystery.
