Anyone else hear about Lawtan Anderson possibly coming to Michigan?
I was listening to the recruiting roundup this morning and thought I heard that Latwan Anderson had his offer from OSU rescinded. There was no discussion of what may have happened, but I know he did not sign with anyone yet. He lists U of M as one of his top choices and according to Sam Webb, there has been some conversations going on between Michigan and Latwan, but an offer will not be extended without a visit first.
If we have the scholarship to give would it be wise for us to go after a 4* athlete or save it for Offensive linemen next year?

I've given us about a 1 percent chance of landing Latwan...until I heard Sam Webb talking about it.
If this is true, this would be great news. Like Dorsey, Lawtwan would be a HUUUUUUUGE coup. Athletic and Football skills aside, the get would huge in breaking the Glenville pipeline and making a statement.
If we can get this kid on campus, I like our chances A LOT. The coaches proved their closing mettle with Dorsey...if they can get Latwan, the Tigers will have to sign RichRod as a closer to replace Fernando Rodney......this man can CLOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Your new avatar is justly deserved.

I looked up his profile on Scout and it said "Areas for Improvement: Instincts". Umm, what?
February 8th, 2010 at 9:08 AM ^
He's a 5-star athlete on rivals. I can't believe that we wouldn't offer him a scholarship if he's interested. We might be tight on schollies for 2011, but it sounds like he would be worth it.
What I have been reading though, unfortunately, is that he'll most likely end up a Buckeye.
February 8th, 2010 at 9:14 AM ^
says his offer has been rescinded by Ohio State
February 8th, 2010 at 9:28 AM ^
He already has an offer...
February 8th, 2010 at 9:36 AM ^
Yeah that's what I thought, but the OP says that he hasn't been extended an offer yet.
February 8th, 2010 at 11:40 AM ^
Not a committable one.
February 8th, 2010 at 9:09 AM ^
I can't imagine cutting a 4* loose unless there was something in his background.
February 8th, 2010 at 10:32 AM ^
According to ESPN, it was because Tressel said there's not room for an extra defensive back.
February 8th, 2010 at 11:33 AM ^
Who doesn't have room for a five star DB?
February 8th, 2010 at 9:11 AM ^
Rumor: Latwan Anderson coming to Michigan.
Better get the reporters on it now so you have the hit piece ready.
February 8th, 2010 at 9:11 AM ^
Anyone else hear that Rich Rodriguez may be willing to leave West Virginia?
February 8th, 2010 at 9:13 AM ^
Wont believe it until he visits.
That said...of course you take this guy. We have one additional scholarship, and we were ready to give it to Sean Parker...and Latwan is a superior player. This is a no brainer.
February 8th, 2010 at 9:17 AM ^
From what I have heard he has grade issues... and if you have grade issues coming from Glenville to OSU then you must really have grade issues.
February 8th, 2010 at 9:18 AM ^
No way - he is too cocky for reserved and gentile Michiganders. He would upset our sensibilities with his cheering and hand waving.
February 8th, 2010 at 10:31 AM ^
... for Jewish Michiganders?
February 8th, 2010 at 12:35 PM ^
That's pretty funny +1. I didn't think of that version of 'gentile.' I am from the south, so I read 'gentile' as gen-teal: retiring in a pompous way.
February 8th, 2010 at 1:34 PM ^
I did know what you meant, but life is too short to pass up opportunities for cheap lulz ...
February 8th, 2010 at 9:23 AM ^
He was asked on Wednesday if Ohio State could take/have room for another defensive back. His response was short and to the point. "No"
b/c Latwan has not signed with anybody no coach can speak about him but the reporter was basically asking about Latwan in a round-about way.
Last I read was he wanted to make a trip out to see USC and then pick between thema and West Virginia. I'll hold out a bit of hope we can land him.
February 8th, 2010 at 9:25 AM ^
I at least like the fact that RichRod won't extend an offer until/if he comes to campus for a visit personally.
I'm not here to make judgments about Latwan's character. If he visits and coach feels like he's a good enough kid to come to Michigan, then that's good enough for me.

Anyone considering starting a new thread with the words "Anyone else hear about" should reconsider starting a new thread.

LA get a 14 or something on his ACT?
February 8th, 2010 at 9:39 AM ^
16 according to Scout
February 8th, 2010 at 9:45 AM ^
With a score like that, how can we even think about it! I took it in 8th grade and scored a 20 lol.
February 8th, 2010 at 9:52 AM ^
But can you play CB?
February 8th, 2010 at 9:54 AM ^
OMG ROTFL GFY
February 8th, 2010 at 10:49 AM ^
So I am assuming GFY is go fuck yourself? Ok, good.
February 8th, 2010 at 12:26 PM ^
I read that as "good for you", but maybe I'm too much of an optimist.
February 8th, 2010 at 2:43 PM ^
Yes you are.
February 8th, 2010 at 10:16 AM ^
I got a 28 in seventh grade. Wanna brain fight!?
February 8th, 2010 at 11:24 AM ^
I haz 73th percintile on CAT in fif grade. Bring it!
February 8th, 2010 at 12:38 PM ^
I don't believe you. Statistically your chances of being in the top 27% are pretty much zero if I'm doing the math correctly.
February 8th, 2010 at 1:12 PM ^
There is a sliding scale based on a students core GPA at the DI level. I believe if you have higher then a 3.5 then you need a total combined score of 37 (out of 100) or something like a 12 out of 36 on your composite score.
So the question is what is Mr. Lawson's Core GPA
February 8th, 2010 at 9:49 AM ^
If we land him, great. If not, not biggie. I love our DB haul that we just got; landing Anderson would be a nice bonus. Just see how this goes day by day.

I won't beat on a guy because he isn't a great student and a great football player. Let's be honest, I want Michigan to win and I like it when we have a good mix of smart players as well, but not every player will be a great student. If we had a Academic Combine I am sure that most of us would get a few Fake's on our Calculus time or someone might get rated a 5th star on your physics. I won't bag on a kid because he isn't an Academic all-American on top of his physical skills.
February 8th, 2010 at 10:02 AM ^
Will you bag on him if he becomes academically ineligible or gets caught paying people to write papers for him or flunks out and disappears like Marques Slocum?
I mean, there IS a reason we have academic standards for athletes and colleges...
February 8th, 2010 at 10:22 AM ^
I understand, I don't want Michigan to bend its rules for a player, I want them to be able to handle the school. This really gets on to the topic of "student athlete" vs the "athlete" that happens to be listed as a student argument. I think the Big10 has done a much better job here than the SEC or some other conferences have. I would like us to maintain our standards.
February 8th, 2010 at 11:45 AM ^
And if your talented enough athletically, an appropriate general studies program can be drawn up to help athletes pursue their academic ambitions.
February 8th, 2010 at 1:31 PM ^
Certain standards need to be maintained for all students. I'm not saying that we don't apply them, but we certainly push the line when it comes to certain athletes. We need to be careful not to cross it.
February 8th, 2010 at 1:47 PM ^
It depends, does he too have a fuck lion?
February 8th, 2010 at 10:26 AM ^
If it is true that the problem is grades and ACT scores, then Southern Cal and Michigan are probably both out.
I'd look to the Big East: WVU, Cincinnati, Louisville, and the like.
February 8th, 2010 at 11:07 AM ^
All schools, even the top ones like Stanford, Mich, Northwestern, etc. have a certain number of non-standard spots for athletes. So long as the athlete can pass clearinghouse, the athlete can attend UofM or other schools. However, the admissions offices at schools like Stanford and UMich allow fewer of these spots available for the coaches to use than SEC schools, which can likely take all non-standard (i.e. below 50% in their high school class and/or below xx on the ACT). If we're recruiting him, we still have a non-standard spot left.
February 8th, 2010 at 11:43 AM ^
Stanford does not have preferential admissions standards for athletes. I beieve Northwestern doesn't, either.
February 8th, 2010 at 11:55 AM ^
Have preferential treatment for athletes. They may say they don't, but they will take much lower GPAs/SATs/ACTs for athletes. Even the ivies do to a degree. Are you saying that they have no non-standard qualifying spots? Because, looking at Rivals right now, Stanford has plenty of players with median-range GPAs who would not get in if they didn't play football.
February 8th, 2010 at 10:24 AM ^
I love hearing the rumor but until I get some concrete info from TomVH or Brian I'm going to hold back my excitement. Hopefully they could speak on this today
February 8th, 2010 at 10:33 AM ^
TomVh doesn't think he's coming. He said that in the other LA thread.
