Submitted by Michiganfootball13 on

Anyone who is a Wings fan will remember hating the Avalanch with your entire being.  The game starts now on FSD.

Can't wait to see all of the legends playing again tonight

Here is the (in)famous 1997 game's fights.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6P4wg21mLf8

It was short lived but this is the most bitter rivalry in sports history. I still hate every one of the Avs. My two most prized possessions are a photo of my son at 2 years old at midfield at the Big House sitting with a Michigan helmet and my signed  picture of McCarty uppercutting the Turtle.

I basically stopped watching pro hockey after Game 7 of the 2002 Wings-Avalache playoff series.  I guess I knew that was about as good as it was ever going to get.

My last night as a resident of Michigan.   We watched the Wings kill the Avs and end Roys career...then went to Pine Knob to see Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth together (believe it or not).

Called my girl out here in Cali who was lookin for a place for us to live... moved out here the next day.

Even though Game 7 was a blowout, it was an epic blowout.  It's a shame the NHL had a weasel for a commissioner that couldn't market this rivalry.  David Stern would've had them on network, primetime TV at every opportunity.

Man, this is fucking sweet.  Stevie, Shanny, Lids, Igor, Draper, and all sorts of guys we haven't even thought about for ages, like Marty Lapointe, Doug Brown, Dino Ciccarelli.  Wow.  Joey Kocur even.

And all the guys we used to hate, too.  The Turtle is here, so is the Statue of Liberty himself, Mike Ricci and his fugly-ass mug, Adam Foote, Sandis Ozolinsh.  This is one of the best things ever.

I have watched some alumni games and this one is as fast paced as I have ever seen . Only one period in we will see if it lasts all game. If the players arent too winded I think it will.

it was about 1998 and at the Palace. After the show we're sitting back and kind of basking in how awesome it was when we hear someone leaving say they had seen McCarty in the private box thing below us. One in our group was literally wearing his jersey so we check it out and see a random dude below us in the box. We ask him if McCarty is in there and he must have been a buddy as he yells inside "Hey, Mac, come out here for a sec". He comes out drinking a can of beer and was absolutely cool absolutely cool as could be. We didn't geek out or ask for anything but he noticed the jersey and we spoke about that for a bit. Then we just talked about the show and how good it was. He shot the shit with us like a genuinely normal dude for about 10 mins before a woman came up and they clearly were friendly so we shook his hand and left. The cool thing was he had to look up at us the entire time but never seemed to want to get rid of us or pull that "I'm too good for this shit" thing. Everyone is just a person but he still bahaved like a guy that wasn't above anyone. It was a cool end to a great night.

I feel like an old bastard but hearing these names from both teams being called is awesome. There were so many great games between the two and it seems they played every year in the playoffs so you if you followed the Wings, you knew the Avs just as well.
