Derrick Green Granted Release

Submitted by Doctor What on

Derrick Green granted release. He will graduate in the Spring, hence be eligible to play this upcoming season. Good luck to the 5 star recruit who once reduced a grown man to tears.

His high school film was not all that great in retrospect, but I'd be lying if I wasn't just as excited for him to come here as everyone else was. Thought he would
Be a Heisman candidate. What a shame.
This might get me negged, but Walker's high school film isn't all that great either.

When you go down on first contact every time you are not going to make it in a power 5 conference much less the NFL.  Good luck to him at his next stop....wish it would have ended differently.

Green was like one of those guys who looks great at the NFL Combine. He was about 5'11", 225 lbs. and he runs pretty fast for a guy who looks like a bowling ball. Despite the fact that his high school film was not the most impressive film out there, lots of people - including me - thought he would be productive in college because he was big/fast. Personally, I gave him an extra bump because I thought Michigan would have a very good offensive line by 2014 or so.

Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Michigan never got to the point where Green could blow through wide-open holes and then slam into safeties 20 times a game. Michigan needed a guy with instincts, not a battering ram.

I don't think he will necessarily "improve" at another school. But he will probably end up somewhere that has an opening at RB, so he could be productive. It largely depends on his new team's offensive line.
