Question: Demar Dorsey vs. Regular Students

Submitted by Goblue89 on

I didn't go to the University of Michigan nor did I apply so I am not familiar with their admission policies/application process/etc. That being said, I was just wondering if an ordinary student with all of the credentials but with a history like Demar's (I use history loosely) would have any trouble getting in the Michiga? Do they do background checks on all applicants?

The reason I ask is because with this whole Dorsey thing, I got to thinking that there has to be some kids with similar pasts that got into Michigan. That didn't have newspaper articles written about them. That went on to do great things.

I understand why this is a story, dude plays football. But one thing I think should be addressed is if the University as a whole accepts ordinary kids with similar backgrounds.

If admissions gives kids second chances, why is it so wrong for Rich Rod to do the same?

and let the kid either behave or not. This is character assassination and it is wrong. Don't be a Drew Sharp on here any longer.

Pretty much every opinion has already been stated: some support Demar, others don't. I don't really care to hear either opinion a hundred more times (though I guess it's my own fault for clicking on the topic?)

Honestly, I think a lot of posters could save themselves some neg-bombs by just keeping quiet and recognizing that this is a divisive issue which probably won't be reconciled.

On a side note, fuck the off-season. It's pretty lame and that's what makes it possible to have a hundred threads on the same topic.

Because Drew Sharp exploits children for his own profit/gain. That's the story, not that some kid once got into trouble and *gasp* Still got admitted into the GREAT MICHIGAN.

Well since everyone murders and steals I assume most UM students have a record.

Please no more (negative) Dorsey threads. I want him here, I don't care about his past as long as it was just that, the past.

students in this kind of detail. Ordinarily, I suspect the Free Press would be embarassed to be asking about the non-conviction history of ordinary Michigan students. Indeed, there are laws on student information disclosure.

But this is a vendetta, a war on Rich Rodriguez, conducted by the Free Press in which Demar Dorsey is simply a pawn for the paper's use.

And, I think it is probably safe to say that a zero-conviction juvenile record would NOT bar any admission to the University.

Please make the ticking timebomb in head stop before I go all TP (stealing, murdering) on people.
DD has no record and he is a Wolverine period. Mr. Dorsey I gladly welcome you to the University of Michigan and hope you enjoy your time here academically, athletically, and socially.
Now would every one please drop this! I'm getting a sense of herd mentally and the leader of the herd is D. Sharp. I hope all you following enjoy looking at his a$$ as you follow along this moronic path.

They do ask on the applications if you have had any run ins with the law.. They also ask for an explanation....I'm not sure how much it matters, but they do ask

Just like most of the team, he's been admitted due to his "football prowess", which is a much better option then sporting an IVY league football team.
