OK, wow. You fooled me. I honestly went to the Apple store and searched for "mozzarella sticks" as an application. Suddently I got no results and then it hit me...

Also Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp.

I enjoy Waze, Podcast Addict, Evernote, Flashlight, Uber, NYTimes, AccuWeather and Pocket. If you find it useful, you also might want to see if your bank and credit card companies have apps.
February 14th, 2016 at 8:46 PM ^
He might want to post his bank and credit card account information so that I can check to verify that the apps will work for him first. Just to be safe.
February 14th, 2016 at 8:54 PM ^
And I'd be happy to verify that his password manager app works. Really, we're all quite helpful.
February 14th, 2016 at 10:33 PM ^
Where else are you going to find friends like this. LOL

If you post your password on here, it shows up concealed. Here is mine, xxxxxxxx. Give it a try.

is a nice app. I use it to automatically download Mgopodcasts and Mgoradio episodes (when they had them). I also set it to automatically refresh daily episodes of The Michigan Insider on WTKA.

Probably not new thread worthy but I wonder what are people's favorite non Michigan podcasts out there. I typically listen to them on my way to work and home. During the off season the discussions become somewhat repetitive and just looking for a few new podcasts to listen to.

Radiolab

Thoroughly enjoyable, they cover a huge array of topics that range from "Stuff You Should Know: Large Hadron Collider" to "Stuff You Should Know: How Rodney Dangerfield Works" or wine fraud or anesthesia or patents or public relations or avalanches... well, you get the idea.
February 14th, 2016 at 10:07 PM ^
Actually heard about this one previously. I meant to check it out and forgot until you mentioned it. Thanks for the reminder.
February 14th, 2016 at 11:01 PM ^
I am not sure if you were thinking a sports only podcast. If so I listen to PTI instead of watching it on tv. Non sports related, I loved the Thrilling Adventure Hour poscasts. They are stories done in the style of old time radio, and quickly pass the time spent in the car.

The BBC's "In Our Time." Each week's episode covers a different topic, and the host brings three experts on for the discussion. Recent episodes have included Eleanor of Aquitane, chromatography, Rumi's poetry, and circadian rhythms. (They seem to roughly alternate between science-y topics and humanities-ish topics.)

Astonishing Legends is incredible. If you like mysteries, strange history, and a touch of spooky every now and then it's a great listen.
February 15th, 2016 at 9:36 AM ^
I'll have to check that one out.
I really like Emperors of Rome, for a good, quick overview on the Roman Empire. The same people also do a Biography podcast where they do 4-5 episodes on one person (Darwin was the first).
Mystery Show is also a fun listen.

I can't imagine my life without SklarBro County. It's honestly amazing. Funniest thing I know of right now.
But technically, it is Michigan related because both Sklar brothers went to Michigan.

I think there have been podcast threads before. But it's always a good topic.
My current favorites:
College football/Michigan related, in addition to MGoRadio:
The Audible (Mandel and Feldman cfb)
WTKA's Michigan Insider (I live out of state so I can catch up with these guys on the podcast)
The Wolverine (Rivals site podcast)
Wolverine Beat (MLive)
Used to listen to The Solid Verbal (Sbnation guys) but I found them tiresome.
General interest (to me at least!):
This American Life
Radiolab
Planet Money
Reply All
Serial
Criminal
Invisibilia
Channel 33 (this is where Bill Simmons et al landed)
BBC Discovery
Skeptoid (bad production values but interesting topics)
On the Media
Here's the Thing (Alec Baldwin interviewing show biz folks. Suprisingly good)
Used to listen to Stuff You Should Know but found it was basically two guys paraphrasing Wikipedia entries about stuff and then reading letters from their fans about how awesome said paraphrasing was.

Look up XPosed.
You can do all of this from XDA.
You will also find a lot of apps that are really cool.
That entire community is great, essentially the MGoBlog of Android forums.

RadarScope, living in tornado alley it's the best 10$ I've ever spent.

Other than the social media staples I most often use TV apps (WatchESPN, BTN2Go, Red Bull TV, FSGo) since I don't have cable and rely on Chromecast, Strava, Timehop, Weather Underground, Tapatalk, and Spotify. Waze is also a good one as an alternative to Google maps. StubHub app is great and has lead to me going to a few hockey games on a whim after I noticed tickets were like $10 an hour before puck drop.

This will sound uninteresting - it is probably uninteresting to most - but I find it useful.
If you're an avid comparison shopper like me, there are plenty of good QR / barcode scanner apps out there that you can use in stores if you're curious to see if you can get a better price elsewhere. A lot of them will allow you to scan the product and actually search the product online to see what stores or sites might offer better pricing.

What specific app do you prefer for that purpose?
February 15th, 2016 at 8:37 AM ^
This is a dead technology. I'm in the marketing sector of a major CPG company and they are going to stop using this and other similar tags in the coming years. The penetration rate is so, so low.

If you peruse Reddit: BaconReader.
I waste a significant portion of my life between it and mgoblog.

I like the reddit is fun app much better.
Probably just because I've used it for a long time.

I prefer alien blue. That is the "official" Reddit app
February 14th, 2016 at 11:08 PM ^
AlienBlue is the best in my opinion.
February 16th, 2016 at 11:49 AM ^
For Android, Relay for Reddit (used to be Reddit Sync) is the business. On iOS now so I use Alien Blue. Don't like it as much but it is the best of the iOS apps I've tried.
