I'm usually the one taking that stance.  In this case, I think it is even worse than I'd expect.  That skyline is awful.  The glowing red puck reminds me of that stupid FoxTRAX thing.  In general, it looks like a B- level trophy.  B- is okay for a high school sport, but not for a major NCAA trophy.

That's kind of where my mind went - it has a distinct automotive feel, which certainly fits the Detroit part of it. Still, it might be the only trophy stamped with a part number and orderable in several OEM parts catalogs. My guess was it is part of the piston assembly for a large engine, and the hockey sticks are for the camshaft attachments.

Who cares?  Us apparently b/c we have to house it most of the time.  Wasn't this rivalry almost 50/50 until the last 5 years or so?  I prefer it like it is now.

I thought the trophy was literally the anvil with two detached hammers. I guess that was just for the preview photos.

It's a bit busy with the bowl, puck, and sticks, but better than an actual anvil, I guess. Just the 'D' popped on the base would have been cleaner, but in the end I don't really care.

This is a total piece of crap!

It's a crudely cobbled-together-designed by committee hunk of garbage.

This reminds me of the cut-out welded-on garbage from that Orange County Chopper show.

Still seems silly to play for a trophy in the single game of a series.  If they played a best-of-three series in the middle of the season instead, maybe I could go for that.

Michigan-MSU is one of the biggest rivalries in college hockey and the teams are each other's chief rival. This is like someone trying to give the Michigan-OSU game some trophy called The Big Horseshoe.

Like pretty much all new trophies, it tries too hard.  If it had literally been an iron D - nothing else, just a hunk of iron welded into a D - it'd have been far cooler.
