Stormy Night Drinking Thread

It is just after 3:30pm in the PNW.  The next of a series of winter storms is blowing in off the Pacific, driving me into the house.  I spent the day pruning pinot grigio grapevines - a normal January activity.  It's been blustery enough I swear, for a couple of honey pots to tumble by.  Now, it is no longer a day, let alone a night, fit for man or beast.  Though my wife thinks I'm being cruel, but I'm not letting the beast in.  Chris Robins can take care of his own damn bear.

Gratefully, I've a basketball game to take in.  I've heard said it is only Rutgers and 'nothing to worry about.'  Uhuh.  Famous last words before a real shit storm right?

To quell the pregame jitters and shelter me from the storm, I've Chinaco Anejo Tequila.  Nice sipping with an ice cube:  Smoky, with a hint of licorice in the end.

I'm about to head across the street and grab some Blackrocks Coconut Brown. It's nice to be able to find a hometown brew in the big city of Grand Rapids.

A Marquette beer.  What is is like?  Standard brown like Skagit River Steelie Brown or is there something else, a hint of coconut?

Bought a 6 of Hell or High Watermelon last summer thinking it was just a name.  Mistake, actually watermelon...and not in a good way.

Yeah, always glad to get more people on the Blackrocks train! I know for a fact that it is available as far south as GR (obviously) but I don't know about anything south or east of here. Of course it's always better from the tap, so just take a trip up to Marquette!

Very nice. One more shameless plug. Head to the Vierling on Front st. (I used to work there), they have some decent food, but their beer is damn delicious. Skip the popular blueberry wheat, unless you're into that, and go for the red ale. They also usually have a pretty good selection of 2 or 3 rotating batches in addition to their 6 usuals.

I googled that zip code out of curiosity, and if you go to the Wiki page for Sedro-Woolley, Wa, there appears to be a picture of the town from 1906 with a Michigan Saloon (far right in image linked below).

SW used to be a rough and tumble logging town.  Loggers from up river would fill the town on the weekend and spend their money.  An old timer told me if a hotel reservation hadn't been made for the following weekend before they left town, they were sleeping in the streets...and no shower/bath.

I assume some Michigander loggers moved here after the Michigan forests were depleted rebuilding Chicago.  Mrs O'leary still has some explaining to do regarding that event!

Now, a few of the old bars are still around, but only 1 hotel.  There were only 3000 people here when I moved here in 1993.  Gentrification in progress.  Supposidly, SW is an up and coming hot spot.  Hope so, I'd like to sell the house, orchard and vines and move aboard a boat!
