Very OT: Vegas Trip

Submitted by NowTameInThe603 on

I believe it is OT season even though recruiting has been extremely active and providing unlimited content.

So, OT territory, my buddy decided last week that he is having his bachelor party in vegas and plans are ongoing with a decision coming soon.

Short version: Recommendations

Long Version:

My question to people who have been to vegas before is if we should split guys up in rooms or look for a suite/villa. I assume most of the time wont be spent at the hotel but my guess is a suite would be better.

A problem that we are finding is most resorts max out at 4 people per room. We have been told that everyone needs to be registered at the lobby to get back up to the room or get a replacement key if its lost.

We are in our mid 20's and there will be about 8 of us.

the Holiday Inn Desert Resort. I stay there during EDC every year (so peak season).  I get a two room suite with a large living room (that has a pull out couch) and it costs like $1000 for 3 days.  It's right next to the Linq and a quick walk to the strip. Also, these places are villas, so no need to deal with security asking for name and room key to get to the destination.  You only need the name and the room number to get into the complex. We fit about 8 in the rooms every year.

Have you considered Airbnb?

I had a close friend use that a couple months ago and got a great condo on the strip for a good price. And I believe he stuffed his friends into the condo to save money (you can usually get away with that at Airbnb places).

Just a thought. There are likely lots of options off the strip (but not too far) that could save you more money.

I spent 2 months in Vegas last year at various points.  As far as recommendations on where to stay, there are tons of options.  I like to stay at Palms because the rooms are nice, cheap and the gym there is outstanding.

PS try not to kill any hookers, but if you do there is always many places in the desert to bury them.   Also, if you black out try to do it in a secure place where you will not wake up with a face tat.

As a seasoned Vegas vet, my recommendation is get multiple rooms instead of a suite.  Suites will still only have one bed usually with a pullout sofa so you're still only sleeping 4.  If you do this though make sure the other room is cheap and use the big room as your "pre-gaming" room or whatever you wanna call it.  But we usually just get multiple rooms for 2-4 people each.  Also, just have the person checking in get additional keys, you don't need to tell them how many people are actually sleeping there.

I'm a seasoned vet myself and agree with not getting one suite for the same reason. The room may be 2000+ sq. ft. but there's only one bed.

I did a bachelor party 5 years ago and had a blast. We (8 of us) stayed at the palms where everyone was paired in a room with someone. The 3 rooms were the cheap rooms where all you did was sleep (if you actually wanted to do that). The 4th room was the villa. We pre-partied and post partied in this room. At night we went to a different club every night.

The clubs we went to (if I remember the names correctly):

Moon Bar - Palms

Rain - Palms

Playboy Club - Palms

Pure - Caesar's

VooDoo - Rio

Of those I thought the VooDoo club on the rooftop of the Rio was the best.

Wherever you go you can typically get table service for around $1200, and it's up to you if it's worth it or not. You usually get 2 bottles (1L each) of liquor and whatever you want to mix it with, and your own server. You can substitute a bottle with a case of beer.

Depending on what time of year you go, I'd definitely hit up the pool during the day, for obvious reasons. Don't get room service.. it's too expensive. Just go to the local mini-mart and buy a bunch of booze and beer and bring it to the room. The casino's don't care if you drink that you didn't buy there, but just remember they only sell bottled beer. If you drink from a can, pour it in a cup, then they won't care.

And yes, there's plenty of prostitutes around and you will meet some, but that's as far as I'll go on that topic.

Those clubs at the Palms at one point used to be the best, but they have gone down hill. Pure is no longer around. They rebuilt it into Omnia which is one of the best clubs in Vegas right now.

Saying you can get table service wherever is kind of misleading. If you go at a peak time to Marquee, XS, Omnia and Hakkasan there is no way you get a table for just $1200.

I am not a Vegas fan, despite having to go there every year (for work.) The one cool thing about Vegas is walking through and seeing all the different hotels. People watching is also awesome in Las Vegas as well.

I just dont really like the place - everything in Vegas is centered around extracting money out of your pockets. Seriously, everything - if they could figure out how to surcharge for oxygen, they would. It just becomes annoying after a while.

Disclaimer - I am not a gambler.

Also - everyone told me that watching sports in Vegas is awesome. I watched the The Game there this year. It sucked.

Also - if you can afford it, stay at Aria.

it kind of sucked watching The Game anywhere this year, or really all of The Games for like the last 15 years.

Anyway, I think that your observations about Vegas are spot on.  I did not fully understand the movie Leaving Las Vegas until going there.  The city itself is a big character in that movie, and that character is ugly and rotting from the inside out.

the outskirts are beautiful (which I know you weren't talking about).

Moved to the Summerlin area (west of the strip 10-12 miles or so) 8 years ago from Michigan and love it here, can't speak highly enough about to those thinking about ever making the move.

In fact I always tell people that I don't live in Las Vegas but instead that we live in Summerlin (even though our mailing address says Las Vegas as there's no place as Summerlin, Nevada).

I haven't been to the 'strip' more than 5 times in the last 3 years and I think that none of those times came during the evening hours or later.

Actually, I have family in Summerlin and visited there the last two times I was out there - I liked it, seemed like a pretty nice place to live.

My dislike of Vegas really just has to do with the Strip (and Downtown.) If you're not a gambler, and not wowed by glitz, glamour and "plastic," Vegas kind of sucks. Buyt traveling around the city and outskirts and seeing the terrain, landscapes was kind of cool.

The strip is a place people come happy and leave sad. Then tell friends they had a great time. Multiple rooms or Airbnb are the two best options. Freemont east has some new great bars (not clubs). The Linq is cool and the club in Encore is the hottest at the moment.

If you intend to go at least annually or biannually my suggestion is sign up to become an MLIFE member and stay at MGM hotels, there are a ton of options.

Room time is absolutely minimal.  When we go on other trips we generally stay at nicer hotels, but the difference between the Luxor and the Bellagio is not much while the price is a ton.

I don't know you at all, but my suggestion would be get 2 double queens and save your money for the rest.  If some or all of you are capable of picking up women and intend to do so, go to single rooms or 2 to a room.

Unless you are looking to spend quite a bit, avoid suites and villas.

I personally go to Vegas 2 or 3 times a year, always for Championship week in March.  I can't remember the last time I paid for a hotel room and didn't get at least $200 in resort comps and free play.

Thats my 2 cents.

Make it a point to hit up Fremont street for at least a couple of hours.  Old Vegas > New Vegas.

go with 2 rooms.

Ive had my best luck at Flamingo and its on the strip.

If youre looking to go off the strip try HardRock - I may have gotten lucky there just because it was labor day weekend and they had some high profile celebs there for that weekend and the pool area was amazing

And stay away from Old Vegas its not that great and the area around it is really bad

My buddys and I did a suite at the Signature which is part of MGM the first time we went, there was 6 of us. Had 2 bedrooms and a living room with a pull out couch, worked out great for the 6 of us, and I am assuming they have bigger rooms to accommodate more people. If you decide to go with the 2 room option go with location over anything else, cheaper places like the Flamingo or Planet Hollywood are nice hotels and are in some of the best locations right in the middle of the strip.

Did this last fall. Stayed at the Cosmopolitan. Big suite, think we had about 6-8 in the room each night. One king, two queens and a pullout. Lots of floor.

Here's a free bonus. Don't bother golfing, especially if its going to be close to summer. We almost lost a couple guys and quit after 9 holes on the painfully bad TPC course.

Wrap around terrace suite at the Cosmo is my favorite room. If the bachelor party wants to pregame a suite is a nice option. However gambling and drinking should get you just as intoxicated. I just last week returned from a bachelor party where we had 5 separate rooms. Worked great. No issues.

I recommend The Palomino. Call ahead and have them pick you up/bring you back.

If you don't want to spend $600+ per night on a suite, check out the Jockey Club. It's behind the Cosmo. It's a basic place as there is no casino. However, if you're just looking for a nice place to crash/hang out, it's a good place in a good location. Around $250 per night for two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living room, and kitchen.

Look for 5 star hotels in north strip area on hotwire, and then find the one that is a suite.  Using 3 guests, you will get the bella suite in the Palazzo, which has two queens and a baller L-Couch that sleeps two more.  This gets you 6 guys in one room, and is bachelor party friendly...

Lived in LA area for 8 years and it's never failed.....

Easy walk to high-end joints like the Encore, and an easier walk to cheap caisino's sandwhiched between the Flamingo and Venetian.  Cab/Walk over to the CIty Center spot and it's amazing looking partiers.....

I'd split it up into four rooms if you can. From experience, you get a 'tragedy of the commons'/Lord of Flies shitshow if you pack in many to a room. You won't get 8 in a suite no matter what, at least not comfortably, and chances are you will trash it.

There is so much to do in Vegas that you should use your room to sleep. Party at the sportsbooks. Call around and see if anyone will give you a discount on four rooms. That was common a few years back, but the economy has picked up, so maybe not as much any more.

Just don't put it all on your credit card...
