OT: Movies that you're embarrassed to admit you love.
January 19th, 2016 at 4:42 AM ^
My wife gives me a hard time about it so I have to rewatch it when she's not around.
January 19th, 2016 at 5:56 AM ^
I agree with you on Notting Hill. And I'm usually an action movie aficionado. Can I say that I'm also a fan of Top Gun. You didn't used to be embarrassed to admit you like the movie but you know... Tom Cruise... The guy creeps me out now.

may have a creepy personal life, but he is an incredible actor.

This was a good movie. Hugh Grant's roomate is a riot.
January 19th, 2016 at 7:30 AM ^
The roommate was great in Danny Deck Chair.

Not really embarrassed to admit it but I think some guys would, but I've seen the six-hour BBC version of Pride and Prejudice several times.

Actually love all John Candy flicks. Died way too young at 43.
January 19th, 2016 at 9:12 AM ^
If there's a John Candy movie on I'm watching it or DVRing it for later. I would put Crumb, Uncle Buck and The Great Outdoors as 3 of his best. Planes Trains and Automobiles right in there too. Hell I watched Camp Candy when I was borderline too old for cartoons anymore. I was a freshman in college when I saw on the news he had died. Got the stingy nose and rapid blinks from it. Still brings a pang to this day.
January 19th, 2016 at 9:57 AM ^
That and Volunteers are 2 of his best and very under rated.
January 19th, 2016 at 11:18 AM ^
Armed and Dangerous is severely underrated too.
January 19th, 2016 at 5:33 PM ^
Delerious.
John Candy was the man, man.

+1, tom tuttle from tacoma

One of my all time favorite movie lines, which I use frequently:
"We'd have better luck trying to play Pick-Up-Sticks with our butt cheeks."
January 19th, 2016 at 4:54 AM ^
"There's no crying in baseball!."
I suppose I would choose, 'The Breakfast Club'. Gotta love the cast of characters in that movie. Just goes to show that it's dumb cliques exist and prevent different people from sometimes even talking to each other, much less become friends. Also Molly Ringwold was/is a good looking red head.

act as Dr. Beverly Crusher in Star Trek, I became very fond of red heads. So, by the time Gina Davis played Dottie, I was automatically hooked.

Magic (1978) with Ann-Margret was a great movie.
January 19th, 2016 at 8:57 AM ^
Gates McFadden and Ann-Margret ... you guys got taste.
+1 to both of you.
January 19th, 2016 at 2:08 PM ^
Molly Ringwald got me hooked on red heads.
January 19th, 2016 at 8:15 AM ^
no reason to be embarrassed over Breakfast Club. That movie is an all-timer.
January 19th, 2016 at 8:29 AM ^
Why is it embarrassing to love The Breakfast Club? That is a classic 80s movie that many people enjoy.
January 19th, 2016 at 1:12 PM ^
Here's why I hate it: the jock gets the girl, the bad boy gets the girl, and the dork does everybody's homework... and goes home alone.
January 19th, 2016 at 2:12 PM ^
That's the circle of life, mate.
January 19th, 2016 at 2:07 PM ^
I love that movie and I'm not the least bit embarrassed by it.

Why would you be embarrassed to admit to liking The Breakfast Club? That's a great movie.

Agree. That's like saying you're embarrassed that you like Ferris Bueller's Day Off
January 19th, 2016 at 7:40 AM ^
Sometimes, when nobody's around, I watch Terminator 2.
January 19th, 2016 at 5:04 AM ^
My wife is embarrassed to admit that I love King Ralph. But I am damn proud of it.

I am too lazy to google.

Footloose
An Officer and a Gentleman

The other two aren't embarrassing.

Love actually
January 19th, 2016 at 9:08 AM ^
Love Actually was the first film I thought of too.
January 19th, 2016 at 9:35 AM ^
I thought it was another solid, low-key role.
January 19th, 2016 at 9:46 AM ^
Agreed. First movie I thought of too.

I don't feel I have to turn in my man-card for liking the occasional Rom-Com, but I absolutely hate Love Actually. My wife has to watch it with her sister every Christmas because I refuse.

Frozen. My girls love it and I love how happy it makes them.

I watch that with both my high shool and elementary shool daughters.
When my oldest was little, we went to see Peter Pan (2003) in an old theater. Made it a perfect setting for this movie. That, along with Two Brothers (2004) are our movies.

Disney hot take:
Without the songs, Tangled is a way better movie than Frozen. Why yes, I have young kids...

So glad to hear someone else say this. I've been telling my daughter since Frozen came out that Tangled is better.
January 19th, 2016 at 9:31 AM ^
I remember liking the actual movie. And with Frozen, it seems like the only parts I remember really well were accompanied by a song.
January 19th, 2016 at 8:59 AM ^
You nailed it. My personal order for my daughter's current favorites:
1. Brave
2. Tangled
3. Frozen (Elsa has some serious fricking psych issues)
January 19th, 2016 at 9:29 AM ^
Love the scene in Tangled when Rapunzel has just left the tower, and she's alternately giddy & excited, then ashamed & guilt-ridden.
Whoever wrote that scene either has a teenage girl, or was one.

Frozen
The most overrated Disney film of all time. Honestly. I am a sucker for a good animated Disney film. Just to name a few, I love The Lion King, Aladdin, 101 Dalmatians, and many others. So one day while at the gym, Frozen was being played in the cardio theatre room, so I gave it a whirl because I was sick of hearing all the hype about it. Well, after I saw it, I immediately thought it is overrated. Don't get me wrong, it'sa good story and well made movie, but I just don't get the hype. I can name many more Disney movies that are better than that one.
January 19th, 2016 at 8:42 AM ^
I am also a sucker for animated Disney movies.. i don't go to the movies to see them, but I definitely redbox all of them haha
January 19th, 2016 at 8:53 AM ^
(two marriages and an a surprise baby). I saw The Little Mermaid in the theater and just about everyone since.
Brave is another good one. Love the red hair and accents.
January 19th, 2016 at 8:59 AM ^
"Beauty and the Beast" ... except maybe it doesn't qualify, because I'm not at all ashamed to admit it.
January 19th, 2016 at 9:08 AM ^
That is a great Disney movie. I own copies of about 20 or 25 Disney movies. They're great.
