+1 for a thread?
I have thought about this before, but with the MGoName thread yesterday, now seemed like an opportune time to mention it. Is there, or could there, be a way to reward creators of excellent threads? I think that when someone resists the urge to post yet another comment about recruiting rankings, QB battles, or depth charts long enough to post a thread that warrants 100, 200, or even 300 comments, they should be rewarded beyond the 1 point for creating a post.

fair enough, but when I tried it never moved from 1 point total. I was just trying to think of a way to specifically acknowledge my appreciation of someone posted an above average thought. It would be nice if the list of threads had a point total next to them so you could use that as an indicator of quality in addition to the number of replies. Some of these threads have 10-15 replies just telling the poster that the infor has already been posted. I would like to see a bonus of 50 points or something for a thread that gets a certain number of distinctive replies (to prevent someone from replying to themselves over and over). Either way, my appreciation to the creator of MGoName.

You're operating from the false assumption that, beyond having the ability to post threads, MGoPoints matter.

Points are merely the only reward I am aware of. My point is that I would like to aknowledge when a thread separates itself from the normal regurgitations. I am not concerned about my own points, or theirs for that matter, just that good posters are distinguished from the rest.

It would be nice if in addition to showing the number of replies, it also showed the points of the post on the front page. It'd be much easier to skip over the pointless crap.

I'm not a moderator (obviously), but:
[1] If you have more than, say, 100 points it means you're not a fly-by poster -- I think that's their main function.
[2] They also serve to help ferret out the kind of nutjobs that used to frequent places like MLive, where they could create multiple usernames, respond to themselves, and generally ruin the discussions with their pet peeves (usually anti-RR, but that's beside the point). So if you have something like -100 points you should probably take that as a sign that you should give whatever you've been harping about a rest.
[3] If you have loads of points, you are either authoritative when it comes to football, have contributed a lot to the discussions over a long period of time, have a really good sense of humor, or just like to post silly pictures of cats, hairless nuts, or anything else likely to catch the attention of bored students who should probably be studying...

UMDad, thanks for bringing this up. I guess I'm a bit anal too, but I thought the OP only got +1 for the origination.
