Your MGoName

Submitted by GoBlueScott on

I can't remember this being posted, if it's ever been done, so if it somehow slipped my attention I'll apologize now. Even so, we have quite a few new peeps around here, and I am constantly wondering why you chose your MGoName.

Some, of course, are obvious.

Some are not. Like, "Brian." Always confused me.

Why did you choose yours?

I'm really hoping Misopogon answers.

Northern Fan

I moved down to Florida from Michigan in 2006, the school I teach at gave me the nickname "Yankee". Everyone knows that I love that school up north, Michigan!! So it was easy to pick this out in November or December when I joined.

In 91' or 92' at U of M, this was the first user name I ever had to create. It was for Pine.
Not much later after that, I heard about this thing called Mosaic which had free porn. Well, I had to check that out for myself.
Thank you Al Gore!!

This is embarrassing.....it was supposed to be after the movie "Red Dawn" but I was so high I forgot the name and I thought it was "Rescue Dawn". So I have been stuck with it ever since.

which I felt lucky and proud to have. Of course I received a fair share of mail that was supposed to go to the Victors Club, questions about entry and fees: I should of asked for checks or money orders. Anyways, after graduation, with the future so bright I had to wear shades, and a new millenia upon me, I picked [email protected] as my "civilian" e-mail. The rest of the tale is self evident.

Feat of Clay

January 29th, 2010 at 10:20 AM ^

I felt the need to choose a name that would try to keep me humble. However, it is well-nigh impossible to suppress my expansive knowledge and genius; it leaks out all over the place. So I added a play on words to remind all (as if they needed reminding!) that every post here is yet another accomplishment in a long string of my impressive contributions to the world.

Seriously? I dunno, "BigTits Hates OSU" seemed a little too assertive, so "Feat of Clay" was a good safe second.

Two of my favorite things growing up were Michigan football and the Ninja Turtles. Biakabatuka's first name was shortened to Tim, my name, so I loved him as a player plus that 313 yard game at Ohio State is one of the earlier games I remember being at.

Oh it kind of rhymes too

CrankThatDonovan

January 29th, 2010 at 12:57 PM ^

My name exists because of a gif that someone, somewhere, produced just before the Ohio State-Michigan game in 2007. It featured Donovan Warren picking off Todd Boeckman, and after running it back for a touchdown, Lloyd Carr (with a sparkly gold grill) telling him to "Crank that, Donovan." This was totally fitting for me because:

1) Donovan Warren, like me, was a freshman that year. He started playing significantly in the Notre Dame game, the same game that the godawful 2007 season got turned around. I saw him as sort of a beacon of hope as he accompanied the turnaround

2) From the moment I first stepped on campus in September, to about about mid-November, Soulja Boy was everywhere. On the steps of frat houses, people were "crankin' that." On sidewalks, people were "crankin' that." At mass meetings, people were "crankin' that." It was unreal, and it's embarrassing to say, but that dance partially shaped my early life as a college student

Thus, the name had special significance to me, so I picked it. I haven't been able to find that gif in two years, though. I'm not sure if it still exists on the 'net...

pontoon

January 29th, 2010 at 1:26 PM ^

Damn, I wish I'd seen this thread yesterday but oh well... Naturally, the story behind my mGoName started with a penis joke (like most good things). In high school I caught one of my friends drawing a giant penis on the front of one of my three ring binders. He of course said he wasn't drawing a penis but instead was drawing a pontoon boat. My classmates thought it was a masterpiece and the nickname has stuck with me for the past seven years.

Mine is not what you would think. My best friend was named Mike who was a far bigger UofM fan than I am and he died in a car accident the summer before we were to start college. His favorite number was 86 and he wore it our junior and senior years of high school.

I thought I would add a little twist with the name. My sig has the link to the episode where I got it. Love the show and was pulling for it when Fox was jerking it around.

I'll leave you with this. My wife hates this and it drives her crazy...I love it. Now you see why I spend a little too much time here.

I was going to use "Iambic Pentameter" in tribute to my poetry professor, who used as an example:

Not a huge fan overall, but always appreciated the sinister imagery.
Also some intentional irony because I try to be a concise writer, but one of the definitions for jabberwock is gibberish.

Wow this is a fun thread! I'm disappointed I missed it until now.

As for me -- not that creative really. I'm one of the 20,784 people lucky enough to live in picturesque Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Maceo24

Way back when I had to create my first usernames for anything, Michigan basketball was still entertaining. The Maceo comes from Maceo Baston. The 24 comes as a carryover of my favorite number. One that became my favorite due to Jimmy King. Ahhh, the good old days of hoops success.
