OT - Calvin Ridley

AGE AINT NOTHING BUT A NUMBAH!

Ridley attended Monarch High School in Coconut Creek, Florida. He played in only three games his senior year due to Florida age restriction rules, which doesn't allow anyone over the age of 19 and nine months to be eligible

Perhaps he enlisted, honorably served our country overseas for a while, and is just now enrolling. 

I guess 3rd grade was a real bitch! /jk - could be extenuating circumstances such as some family or relocation issues.

Being a freshman isn't dependant on your age. 

The count down starts as soon as you take your first class.

Those that forgoe college for a few years to either work, join the military or for whatever reason will have 5 eligible years to play collegiate sports from the very first day they set foot in a college classroom.

I believe this has been discussed here many times.

I'm not vouching for this and I have not followed his career for long, but I read somewhere that he immigrated here and was behind in his schooling, which accounted for his age when graduating high school. I'm not sure if that's true or not.

Does this mean he gets to avoid the 3 year rule by the NFL since he's older or nah? 

Well at least we know he chose Georgia to finally focus on his education.

Check entire BYU roster. Not implying anything illicit, naturally, just there is an entire team full of players several years older than their competition because of their extended Mormon missionary work. Not unheard of.

Brandon Weeden was almost 30. Age doesn't really matter in college.

Chris Weinke won the Heisman at 28.

Many reasons for players in the past. Don't know Ridley's situation. 

Mormon missions, military service, minor league baseball, poor academics, immigrated and was behind in schooling (often happens with refugees, in particular)

I tease my Alabama fan buddy about this all the time. He brags Ridley is the best frosh in the country and I point out he should be since he's 34 years old, etc...

Every bigman that ever played basketball at Iowa or Purdue was in their late 30's when they graduated.
