Your MGoName

Submitted by GoBlueScott on

I can't remember this being posted, if it's ever been done, so if it somehow slipped my attention I'll apologize now. Even so, we have quite a few new peeps around here, and I am constantly wondering why you chose your MGoName.

Some, of course, are obvious.

Some are not. Like, "Brian." Always confused me.

Why did you choose yours?

I'm really hoping Misopogon answers.

I was on internship in Maine the year I learned about mgoblog. My friend turned me onto it just before The Horror. Don't know how I would have coped without this site. Since then have lived in AZ and now in VA, but neither "Arizonaandblue" or "Virginiaandblue" have much of a ring to them.

My avatar has nothing to do with anything, other than the fact that I really love the Drive By Truckers and that album cover. Should probably change it to something Michigan related one of these days...

EDIT: Avatar fixed. This is my 3 month old husky/pit puppy, Maizey Blue.

umhero

I used to be on the radio and at my first station someone called me the Radio Hero because he thought my voice sounded like the old Mighty Mouse announcer saying "Here he comes to save the day."

My friends in the industry continued to call me Hero. I actually worked at AM 1050 WPZA before it was WTKA, but I wasn't the radio hero when I was on the air there.

10th yr Senior

When I first started commenting on haloscan and live blogs I was a 10th year senior here at UM. I take part time classes paying out of pocket and now I'm a 12th year senior who'll finally be done with my BA in December.

tbliggins

My initials are TB. A roommate that I lived w/ on Dewey thought my last name was Bliggins. Which, other than starting w/ 'B', isn't even close to my last name. So that stuck as a nickname.

Mr. McBlue and…

January 28th, 2010 at 12:59 PM ^

One of the all-time great cartoons led to the name:

Mr. McBlue - represents myself and the undying fandom which I possess

and - including

RR too - our fearless leader, Mr. Rodriguez (hence the pic of him from his days at glenville state)

Far as I know, I'm the only alum in this zip though I run into a few originally from Michigan. Started using it on Varsity Blue.

By the way Tim, it is time for another instalment of "Big Ten Recruiting Rankings." I miss it.

Baldbill

I had a group of friends that I used to hang out with, more than one of us was named Bill so in order to distinguish the "Bill's" I was labeled BaldBill, since I shave my head.

My favorite Tecmo Super Bowl play (going along with the picture on the left) - my go to deep out was Anthony Carter on the Vikings and the computer could never seem to cover him.

ebbtide

ebbtide was my grandpa's CB handle back in the day. Our last name starts with "Eb". I stole it..

And since i've been asked before, the avatar is from a velvet painting that hung in the bathroom of a house in detroit where I used to party.

Feaster18

Back when I was a kid in the 70s, UM had a starting wide receiver named Rodney Feaster. I always thought that was a cool name, and I used to feel sorry for the guy: we had such a powerful rushing attack with Leach, etc, that we almost never threw the ball. Wide receivers existed mainly to block in those days under Bo. Finally, though, in I believe the '78 OSU game, he caught a long TD pass from Leach to seal the game. That moment cemented him in my memory.

Hemlock Philosopher

Simply "Hemlock Philosopher" is Socrates. But this name was brought to my attention when my brother and his friends were coming up with (mostly crass) rock band names during a night of imbibing. Since I studied philosophy at Michigan, I nicked it. Now my brother and I are thinking of starting a brewery and calling it Hemlock Philosopher's.

I miss Spring Lake

January 28th, 2010 at 1:16 PM ^

When I was a kid my family lived in Spring Lake, MI for a few years. Our favorite place was the Clover Bar for pizza, where I'd sink quarter after quarter playing 1942 (or was it 1941?). Also, walking to The Front Porch for ice cream during the summer months is another good memory.

But, what I remember most about Spring Lake: the big trees - the ones that had been there for a very long time - and Lake Michigan in the summer. Not sure if it has changed over the years, but it remains beautiful in my mind's eye.
