Tony Drake commits to Colorado State
http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/tracker/school?schoolId=36&pa…
Tony Drake commits to CSU. Sucks that we had to part ways with him (I thought he'd be a good slotback), but nice to see him land somewhere so he can have a chance to showcase his skills. Best of luck to him.
January 27th, 2010 at 9:44 AM ^
Yes best of luck to Tony Drake. I'm glad everything appears to have been well handled. We didn't have reject the kid and publically make statements about academics or anything like that. Rather he was able to move on, find a school and I hope he does well there.
January 27th, 2010 at 10:34 AM ^
Anyone know what happens if kinnard does not get in? Do we just save the schollie or go after another kid?
January 27th, 2010 at 9:46 AM ^
I knew he was not going to get in here just kinda surprised he is going to Colorado St. Kinda thought he would stay instate maybe with TT, A&M, SMU, or TCU
January 27th, 2010 at 9:51 AM ^
damn.... i liked him a lot =[.....
January 27th, 2010 at 11:05 AM ^
I thought he would be a great fit but, all the best to him.
January 27th, 2010 at 9:55 AM ^
Maybe I missed something, but how is Drake able to go to CSU without taking the ACT? I thought that was the primary issue with his recruitment.
January 27th, 2010 at 9:59 AM ^
That's just where he's committed for now because he wasn't going to UM.
January 27th, 2010 at 10:07 AM ^
The state of Michigan is one of the few states that requires ACT for its scores. Most other states require the SAT instead.
That said, who knows if he will qualify based on SAT scores either.
January 27th, 2010 at 10:11 AM ^
u-m doesnt require the ACT
January 27th, 2010 at 10:21 AM ^
Oops, I guess life has changed since I went to school.
My apologies. Disregard my ignorance.
January 27th, 2010 at 10:46 AM ^
I think a more accurate way of saying it is that they don't REQUIRE the ACT because they accept either an ACT or an SAT score.
January 27th, 2010 at 10:55 AM ^
Maybe I'm biased, but I took both the ACT and SAT and enjoyed the results presentation of the ACT much more, even though I did better on the SAT.
January 27th, 2010 at 12:22 PM ^
alas, by the time one gets to your apology, you've probably already been negged...there's a lot of trigger fingers around here you know...
January 27th, 2010 at 10:03 AM ^
Did M drop him, or did he drop M? I remember the ACT issue, but thought he was trying to get into Michigan? Thanks!
Edit: answered my own question through the search button:

January 27th, 2010 at 10:03 AM ^
this is a win-win situation. Good luck Mr. Drake.
January 27th, 2010 at 10:13 AM ^
I know all the talk regarding ACT scores, but the Rivals article really makes it sound like we just stopped talking to him for no reason.

http://www.courier-journal.com/blogs/demling/blog.html
This link from the Louisville Courier-Journal mentions Dominique Brown (a Cincinnati commit) garnering interest from M...and visiting Louisville. Does anyone know anything about him?
January 27th, 2010 at 10:23 AM ^
Won't be long and we will see "Tony Drake decommits from Michigan, choses Colorado State because of family values, and a less enduring practice schedule".
January 27th, 2010 at 10:29 AM ^
I sense an upgrade or another D recruit anyway.
January 27th, 2010 at 11:07 AM ^
I guess we didn't want him anyways if this is "too hard" for him. Sorry fella it's D1 football you have to work to win.
Those who stay will be champions.
January 27th, 2010 at 11:31 AM ^
It was sarcasm about the freep, it had nothing to do with Drake. There were academic issues with him, nothing more. He wanted to come here but apparently didn't have the grades. I wish him the best, and so should you.
January 27th, 2010 at 1:33 PM ^
"It's Division One footbal!!! (Go play intermurals)"
Sorry, that's Colorado's Dan Hawkins, not Colorado State.
January 27th, 2010 at 10:27 AM ^
Drake is lightning in a bottle. But, if lightning wants to play college football at UofM he needs to do his school work and pass his tests. Kinnard is busting his butt to make it happen. Others in question should follow suit.
January 27th, 2010 at 10:40 AM ^
...I wish Tony the best. Wish he could have come here, but hope he has a good career elsewhere.
January 27th, 2010 at 10:47 AM ^
Wait, didn't we get word that Austin White wouldn't be in the class either? There aren't a whole lot of running backs left that would constitute an upgrade. Especially because Dillon Baxter, who actually visited M, already signed his LOI with USC. Unless we can snag a player who's already committed, this RB class is not looking great. If it stays this way, it'd be a big priority for next year.
January 27th, 2010 at 10:56 AM ^
Isn't he already enrolled?
January 27th, 2010 at 12:45 PM ^
Ah, my mistake. Easy with the negatives, folks. I got White and Witty mixed up in my head.
January 27th, 2010 at 11:01 AM ^
We have 400,000 running backs homeslice, I wouldn't fret
January 27th, 2010 at 6:43 PM ^
Hopalong Boutros, a 6'8" running back with 4.3 speed, just decommitted from Bucknell. They would not let him play wearing the big cross. He is the "mystery recruit." RR is set to visit him in Zagreb this weekend. Keep your fingers rossed--rumored to be a nephew of our own Big Boutros. Could he be running back number 400,001?
January 27th, 2010 at 11:21 AM ^
Austin White and Stephen Hopkins are already enrolled. Combined with our current cadre of running backs, we have ourselves a good core. I will agree with you, however, that on paper we don't have a true game changer. I think someone (my money is on Fitz) will step up and have tremendous year. Next year, Demetrius Hart will (hopefully) be that on paper game changer.
January 27th, 2010 at 2:25 PM ^
Where did you get all your inside scoop on Dillon Baxter??
January 27th, 2010 at 2:51 PM ^
The more I think about it, the more it's probably inaccurate, but Rivals.com has Baxter as having signed his LOI. Link is down the page as well as a most-likely-inaccurate link to ESPN that says Kyle Prater signed.
edited: Just checked the Rivals page again. They have changed Baxter back to unsigned.
January 27th, 2010 at 11:29 AM ^
Well, as opposed to what Drake's coach said, it's interesting that Rivals now lists Drake as NOT having an offer from Michigan. So it looks like the offer was rescinded, or the coach was trying to cover up for the fact that Drake wouldn't qualify academically to get into Michigan.
January 27th, 2010 at 1:35 PM ^
Whoa, Magnus... That's a pretty freakin' new avatar. Didn't recognize you there for a second.
January 27th, 2010 at 11:33 AM ^
I've read that Dominique Brown is a contingency offer, in case one of our guys decommits at the last minute. He's got an offer from OSU, so he's not lacking talent.
January 27th, 2010 at 11:40 AM ^
Magnus -- what is Brown's projected position? Looks like he played some QB and running back, but the article referred to him as an athlete.
January 27th, 2010 at 11:36 AM ^
Dillon Baxter already signed his LOI? That's weird, because it's against NCAA rule to sign a LOI until February 3...
I guess we've discovered another USC recruiting violation!
January 27th, 2010 at 1:23 PM ^
That's what it said when I looked on Rivals:
http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/commitlist.asp?SID=880&Year=2010&S…
Seems wrong, but I was just going by the site.
In that same vein, ESPN has Kyle Prater signed to USC already, but not Baxter:
http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/tracker/school?schoolId=30&se…
January 27th, 2010 at 11:57 AM ^
From what I've read, it looks like Brown projects as a SS or OLB. If he were to play anything for us, I'd guess it would be SAM.
January 27th, 2010 at 8:46 PM ^
Sounds like Drake got the Barnes treatment..
"It was a lack of relationship between the player and the coaches in terms of talking about how they wanted me to perform at their school and what they wanted me to play," Drake said. "The coach who was recruiting me left and I didn't hear from them (Michigan), so I thought I would re-open my recruiting process.
January 27th, 2010 at 8:49 PM ^
He was half-Barnesed, half-we-don't-want-another-Adrian-Witty-ed.
Heh...he was half-Wittyed. That's hilarious.
Or lame.
Probably lame.
