Rashan Gary Updates from UA Game Week

Submitted by Indonacious on

Per the twittersphere, some updates regarding Rashan Gary. I feel like people were freaking out yesterday and so this may calm some nerves.

Rashan Gary says he might see Michigan again next month to hang out with Kareem Walker and Devin Bush

Walker said he isn't pressuring Gary but plans to host him in January in Ann Arbor

Gary said Kareem Walker is his best friend but he'll make the decision that's best for him

Rashan and his mom love Michigan. Having Jabrill as a mentor and Kareem as a best friend are the deal sealers. He's All Blue.

The added benefit of Walker and Bush committing is this. They can be at events like this in other recruits ears. Especially since one of Gary's other good friends, Greg Little, is an Ole Miss commit there.

Similarly OSU has two commits at this game, including Joey Bosa's little brother who's also a 5 star DE, but both are injured and I don't think either made the trip. Bad luck for both the kids and OSU

I hate this more and more as it drags on...  there is really no reason for Gary to not pull the trigger for UM unless he feels like there is something that is just not a fit.  History is not on our side on the recruitment of 5 stars that push out to signing day.

And then I tell myself:  "Gary is going Blue! There is no way he is going anywhere else....  Harbaugh and stuff", continue to suck my thumb and curl up into the fetal position.

Exactly. No reason to wait? More like, no reason to rush when any school you want to go to would open a spot.

Seriously, if he called up any school who already had oversigned by 5 and couldn't fit a single person, and asked to commit there, they'd find a way.

I did not say there wasn't a reason to drag it on.  I said there is really no reason for him to not choose UM.  Obviously this is from an outside point of view... as we all are on the outside.  My worry is that UM typically ends up second on these battles that continue to linger on.

Also, back in the day, I was the #1 rated recruit for Paper, Rock, Scissors.  It was a long and difficult recruiting process.  Thank god I had strong family support to help me with the decision.

is no guarantee of future results.  Harbaugh seems to have turned the Hoke model around.  With Hoke (and even Carr, IIRC), we seemed to get a lot of highly ranked kids early, then miss on the later ones.  Seems as if Harbaugh started slow this year, and is nailing the later kids so far at least.  My money is on him to close the deal with at least three more of the highly ranked kids we are after, including Gary.

Past performance is actually entirely irrelevant when talking about recruiting. That is because there there really are no past performances. Gary has not committed anywhere, and his recruitment is 100% independent of any other. So the hit/miss rate on previous recruits suggests absolutely nothing about the chances Gary picks Michigan.

Okay, I get it now, Gary should commit now, so you'll no longer fret about it. Makes sense...for YOU. Regarding the 'always ends up 2nd'...Bush? Walker? I guess, maybe you could look back at past situations that involved different recruits and different coaches. I'm just not sure those situations have ANYTHING to do with this one.

He’s the top recruit in the country. He’s being fawned over, catered to, and his ego stroked by everybody. Even somebody as level-headed and humble as Gary appears to be has to enjoy the star treatment everywhere he goes. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity; let the kid enjoy it for as long as he can. Trust in our coaches to bring him home when the big day comes.

Leonard Fournette committed at the beginning of the new year (AA game), Cam Robinson committed to Bama before his senior season. Trent Thompson recruited in August before his senior season. Kahlil McKenzie committed over the summer before his senior season.

We're talking about top 3 guys from the past 2 years.

Signing Day just gets hyped because it's a day that's hyped. A number of times the top recruits have already committed.
