Darn. Being reported in several places.

So who else is there?

Also: ain't even mad.

I want Jim Leavitt. Someone who knows things about stopping hyper spreads.

Would be a knockout hire.

Why hasn't it been announced already? There's literally nothing stopping him from leaving right now.

Colorado was 4-9 and 1-8 in the Pac 12. They're not in a bowl...so why wouldn't he have been here 2 weeks ago if it was him?

This tells me, it's not Leavitt. Unless someone has some reasoning for him to be waiting on accepting the position or Harbaugh to wait on hiring him.

I dont see UM admin allowing Leavitt to be a "Michigan Man" with his baggage that directly affected a college football player (as opposed to Jim's "baggage") but in theory you could argue having Partridge on the road the next 5 weeks is more important than a guy with 0 connection to our recruits ala Gary.  Just a theory if in some weird world he is the DC.

Again,

Partridge could still recruit and talk to Gary. He just couldn't do the in-home. At the same time, does Leavitt not have any recruiting connections to add to our recruiting board or flip guys that we couldn't take advantage of?

Seems kind of silly.

And like I said, you could still name him head coach, but leave Partridge as the LB coach until the bowl game.

Just like Rich Rod was named and was on the sideline while Carr coached the team. It's the same idea if that's what you want to do.

It can be announced and you could set his start date for 1/2/16. But it hasn't been announced, so I really doubt that is what's happening.

Harbaugh is working the big picture prior to announcing Leavitt. If Fisch stays, he needs to get paid in 2016. JAX is done paying him at the end of the year. He's got to pay Leavitt. Net-net, total assistant coach salaries are going up. He has G Matt coordinating the bowl game. He's got to sort out what he's doing with Partridge. If Leavitt is solid, he'll wait for things to get sorted out.

Or...maybe he is waiting to see how the defensive staff handles the bowl game before making a decision.

At least you tried to give an answer...so I can't knock you for that.

However, what does salaries have to do with making an annoucement?

Just because you announce it doesn't mean you start getting paid if you're not on the job. That part I don't get. You and I announce we're taking a job and we give our 2 weeks and it's not like the new job is paying us until our first day.

I don't see why announcing it has anything to do with money. You think Kirby Smart is getting paid by UGA and Bama right now? No. UGA announced it and it's effective the day after he's done at Bama.

Just about everyone gets announced before they officially start a job.

Leavitt is a second tier candidate per Rivals.

If Anderson doesn't come, Leavitt is in a group of several others guy that they will move on to.

I personally am not a big Anderson fan. Still got gashed by Oregon and lost this year. Again.

Especially when they have a healthy QB to run their system. That's what makes them Oregon.

That can't be your barometer. There is literally NO coach on this planet that stops the spread on a consistent basis. Not one.

Like Alum says, you're looking for a unicorn and you're never going to find it.

Weather and injuries stop spread offenses FAR more than defensive coordinators.

Edit: Wait...Colorado gave up like 40-something to Oregon this year.

Partridge isn't going anywhere...if you hire a DC, he (Partridge) can still recruit Gary, lol. He doesn't just go away.

I could just as easily say...what about the defensive players we're not getting because they're taking a "wait and see" approach?

I mean, both are silly suggestions.

Sitting in AA is diff then being in people's homes.

It could also be a goodwill gesture for the work he has done and not going to Maryland with Durkin to allow him this time and to coach in the bowl.  Scratch his back sort of thing.

Again I dont think Leavitt is the future DC - just bad optics for a institution like UM which supposedly has a diff standard.  But just throwing out reasons to keep status quo for a few more weeks.

This has nothing to do with announcing it.

Partridge can still be the coach up until the bowl game and you can announce your next DC.

Kirby Smart is announced at UGA and still coaching at Bama.

Rich Rod was announced at Michigan and Carr was still coaching.

It happens every single year.

No one has given me a reason why there shouldn't at least be an announcement.

But I swore I heard Devin Bush Jr. say something today about committing to an "all NFL staff". Add to the fact that Bush Jr. and Sr. wanted to know who the next DC would be with Durkin leaving (so they would be more confident in considering Michigan) and it tells me Jim has his man. Now it's either a coach in the NFL currently and not likely going to the playoffs (which would make sense), or a former NFL defensive coach in college that wants to coach a bowl game and maybe wants to keep his players focused or something. I don't know, I just think Bush Jr let it out of the bag and that the hire swayed him to Michigan (so maybe it's a solid coach???). I could be wrong, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.
