OT: UFC 194 Predictions or Fri Night Drinking Thread

Submitted by SwitchbladeSam on

One of the better cards I've seen in awhile. I'm a pretty big fight fan and like to put a little money on them.  I know there are some other gamblers out there (Degenerates Thursday), but I'm not sure about mma fans so I figured I'd test the waters. Can't wait for McGregor Vs. Aldo.  I'll spare you my fight breakdown where I pretend I know way more about it than I probably actually do and just tell you who I think will win...

Have to take Mcgregor.  Though it's hard to bet against either

I like Weidman to win.  Only because I've been betting against him for 4 years and losing- I give up

I've got Romero over Souza- Nelson over Maia- and finally I'll have to take Holloway over Stephens.

I also like Mendes over Edgar tonight...

So... any fight fans out there want to make any predictions?  If not, neg me and tell what you're drinking. We can turn this in to a drinking thread.  I'm sipping a Dale's pale ale at the moment

Bulleit bourbon 10 year batch.
Aldo will win mcgregor isn't taking him serious.
Edgar is a much better wrestler imo so I think he takes it.
Romero souza should be a great fight.
I think Weidman who I always pick against finally goes down tomorrow.

I think Aldo will win if he can survive Conor's kicks. I'm skeptical of Conor's ground game. We already know what Aldo will bring to the table.

Mendes had some moments where he threw Conor off last match until the kicks finally got to him.

It'll be interesting for sure.

a fire on a sixty something degree Florida night and working my way to the bottom of a bottle of 15 year old Glenfiddich. Christmas is in the air...for Fla that is.

As I have the house to myself tonight, I've been sitting here doing things I can't really do around the wife and kids too often, such as drink numerous rum and Cokes and watch "Kentucky Fried Movie". So far, so good this evening.

I'm a huge fight fan too, don't think I've missed an event in over ten years. 194 is one of the best cards on paper I've seen in a long time. I'll take Holloway but Jeremy has ko power and always has a punchers chance. Maia is one of my favorite fighters ever, and I think he'll be able to control Nelson. Jacare is a beast, i think he'll take it, hopefully by sub. I'll go Weidman and Aldo in main events, but could easily see McGregor winning.

Aldo over Connor, Aldo is great at moving around, counter striking and McGregor's extremely accurate with strikes. I think Aldo's movement will give Mcgregor problems. There is a reason why Aldo is unbeaten in 10 years.

I'll take Weidman over Luke. I'm looking forward to Weidman v. Romero. How Yoel Romero weighs 185 pounds is a mystery to me. Dude looks like he is 230 easy.

Edgar by decision over Mendes. Edgar has a motor that doesn't quit, great take down defense and constant movement. I'm still mad about Mendes vs. Mcgregor. If you're going to take a fight on short notice you had better be in fighting shape. I think he took Cgregor to lightly.

I love Aldo, but I think he's been out too long.  Not many people move like McGregor, I think he wins.

The only thing that worries me about Connor is he has quit trying to do anything defensively.  He use to have great head movement  etc. Now he's so damn confident in himself and his chin, he doesn't care if he gets hit.  Confidence is great.  But he just feels like he can walk thru anything thrown at him and finish the fight.  I could see Aldo winning a decision with Connor getting behind on points because he doesn't care if he gets hit...tires out...can't finish the fight and aldo cruises in the late rounds staying outside with leg kicks.

I thought the same thing. It reminds me a little of Ronda. In every fight before Holly she just walked right through good hard shots because none of the girls had the power to hurt her. The first time she got hit by Holly you could tell she went "Oh shit, that actually hurt." And then once she was hurt, she went with what she knew, walk through strikes. I'm interested to see if the same thing happens with Connor.

Haha McGregor is quite overhyped. He leaves his front leg out and Aldo has the best kicks in the game. People seem to often forget just how great Aldo is. Aldo by leg destruction and UD or TKO. McGregor is mostly a product of hype. Just like Ronda 'The Honda' Rousey.

Let's get one thing right, McGregor is nowhere near as overhyped as Ronda. Women's mma right now is what men's was in 1998. An accountant trains for 6 months and is world champ-

Cyborg is the best female fighter- Ronda fought bums off the street that have day jobs. Everyone knew that.

Connor absolutely clowned Poirier- whom I like and respect very much- but they didn't belong in the same ring. Poirier is legit. Ronda beat who?

Is he overhyped? Maybe. But he's dominated proven contenders.
