I was hoping they'd name it The Terrarium.
December 11th, 2015 at 2:33 PM ^
The San Diego zoos turtle area is called the turtle tarrium. On a recent visit the gf suggested this as a better name for Marylands stadium. I can't help but feel this was a missed opportunity.

Now I know how it feels to be Internet Famous. I'll try not to let it go to my head.

I was still hoping for The Fridge, after Ralph Friedgen
December 11th, 2015 at 12:27 PM ^
DJ Durkin isn't half the man Ralph Friedgen is.

Both literally and figuratively

That's the joke.
December 11th, 2015 at 11:34 AM ^
I was hoping The Terradome or The Shell
December 11th, 2015 at 11:38 AM ^
Why not "The Sewer"? Then it covers both the Turtles reference and their standing in football.
December 11th, 2015 at 12:51 PM ^
And College Park, in general.
December 11th, 2015 at 12:17 PM ^
How about The Terpetarium?
December 11th, 2015 at 1:17 PM ^
The Shell would be a cool name.
It's beyond Terradome.
December 11th, 2015 at 11:39 AM ^
Maryland is keeping it in the family changing the name of their stadium.
Northwestern's stadium was called Dyche Stadium for 70 years before they changed it to Ryan Field in 1997.
Have any other schools done this?
December 11th, 2015 at 11:38 AM ^
... that they're also changing their bi-polar logo on the helmets and end zones too?!? Please? I get a splitting headache whenever I see that.
December 11th, 2015 at 11:51 AM ^
Just in case you weren't already aware, that logo is just the Maryland state flag. They didn't like make it up themselves or anything.
December 11th, 2015 at 12:02 PM ^
That doesn't make it a good choice.
December 11th, 2015 at 12:11 PM ^
Actually it does...
The state has tremendous pride in its flag as it's one of the most recognizable flags in the country.
They really don't give a shit what we think - and good for them. I lived in Maryland for 6 years and thought it was really cool how much they embraced it.
It's just like Oregon, some things just aren't for everyone.
December 11th, 2015 at 12:35 PM ^
Here's their Movember moustache
December 12th, 2015 at 12:08 AM ^
I'm also a fan of the design because it's actually meaningful and unique. Much better than making some black uniforms that almost every team does nowadays. Oh. Maryland did that too? Well, can't always be right I guess.
December 14th, 2015 at 8:18 AM ^
I live in Maryland. It's a bad-ass flag.
December 11th, 2015 at 11:39 AM ^
I was hoping for Terrapin Station.
December 11th, 2015 at 11:47 AM ^
+1 for The Dead.
December 11th, 2015 at 12:42 PM ^
is DJ Durkin's strength.

Eat, sleep and see Jerry.
December 11th, 2015 at 11:40 AM ^
Also so it's actually in the same zipcode as the University?
December 11th, 2015 at 11:41 AM ^
This was a great thread the first time around... Ugh...
But Maryland Stadium sounds so bland... Don't they have any other famous athletes to name it after?
December 11th, 2015 at 11:46 AM ^
Michigan has many famous athletes and ours is "Michigan Stadium". They just need a cool nickname like "The Big House".
December 11th, 2015 at 11:52 AM ^
Yeah but we were one of the first to do it. Not to mention the prestige and awe of the stadium itself.
Maryland on the other hand...
The Turtle House?
December 11th, 2015 at 12:00 PM ^
Marlyand Stadium is probably a little catchier than, say, "Boomer Esiason Park" or "LaMont Jordan Field" or something along those lines but Maryland does have a few football names that they could use, I suppose. Now, if they wanted to name something after Bobby Ross for giggles, that might be an interesting proposition.

Throw a lid on it: The Terpdurkidome.
December 11th, 2015 at 1:15 PM ^
was Terpdurkin Field.
December 11th, 2015 at 11:49 AM ^
First thought:
December 11th, 2015 at 11:58 AM ^
But it would need to be at least 3 time bigger. What is this, a stadium for ants?
December 11th, 2015 at 12:54 PM ^
How are these fans going to be able to watch the Terrapins if they can't even fit inside the building?

It is a fashion, a way of life inspired by the very homeless, the vagrants, the crack whores that make College Park so unique.
December 11th, 2015 at 11:50 AM ^
Good thing they decided to remove the naming after a person with a history of supporting racial segregationist policy, and decided to name it instead after a state with a history of supporting racial segragationist policy.
December 11th, 2015 at 12:22 PM ^
don't worry, things like this end racism
December 11th, 2015 at 12:57 PM ^
There used to be racism in the United States of America. Perhaps we should rename that too
December 11th, 2015 at 2:01 PM ^
That Curley Byrd was less a product of his time than someone who actively promoted segregation. It's one thing to just go along and quite another to make things worse.
December 11th, 2015 at 2:56 PM ^
What marginal impact did the person have for the good and for the bad?
If it had been someone else in the same position, how might have things been different?
December 11th, 2015 at 11:57 AM ^
Wow. What an original name!
