1. Randy Shannon met with the Reese family, and told them he wasn't leaving his job at Florida.
2. Chad Simmons of Scout thinks Pruitt would accept the Michigan job on the spot if offered Friday.
3. Lance Anderson is still in play, and may be offered the job soon (or already has).

that Jim Harbaugh has a reputation as the ultimate Head Coach Builder. Up and coming coaches from all over the country jump at the chance to apprentice at the feet of The Master.
Spend a year or two or three learning from Harbaugh and you are ready to be a successful head coach.
My God, this might be Harbaugh's finest quality. We will NEVER be without a top-notch staff of assistants!

Ryan Mallett didn't run the option, but it didn't stop him from transfering to a school that runs a spread that catered to his strengths just so he could piss off Rich Rod for not thinking he could run that system.

The key word here is "rumor". I'm not saying that Mallett wouldn't have transferred but he would have been crazy to if someone like Les Miles had been hired. Thanks Herbstreit. Miles put JaMarcus Russell into the NFL as the # 1 overall pick in 2006. Mallett would have had to think long and hard about leaving Michigan under those circumstances. The RR hire made it an easy decision.

Honestly, Les Miles does not have a great track record of developing quarterbacks. His best success story is Jamarcus Russell, who is considered one of the biggest busts in NFL draft history.

.....but would Ryan Mallet have known that in December 2007 when JaMarcus Russell was making bank in the NFL and LSU was getting ready to play for a MNC? I think that the 2007 and 2015 perspectives are very different.

He's talking about Miles in 2007. Having Russell drafted as the #1 overall pick in 2006, would have been a great selling point for Mallett to stay at Michigan. People also forget that one of the biggest reasons for him coming here was Scott Loeffler (which I'm sure Les would have kept on staff).

But it can't possibly be more difficult than BYU, what with their honor code and all. All things considered, Bronco Mendenhall's success there despite the recruiting limitations is pretty incredible.

My best friend is a USNA alum and I knew an Honor Board member there pretty well (please don't kill me if that's not the exact title) and Navy is definitely more difficult to recruit than BYU. There's a five year commitment after college, so no NFL unless an extreme exception is made, their code isn't much more lenient than BYU and you spend long periods of time in isolated military environments.
There's also the small issue of ending up enlisted in the Navy and out of school for the duration if your grades aren't up to par, and we're talking about one of the most selective universities in the country with a ridiculous* acceptance process BYU couldn't dream of implementing.
I'm not much for believing in a "calling" but my experience with Midshipmen is that they're true believers who aren't prioritizing their football (or whatever) potential over USN futures.

I think David Robinson only served two or three years after graduating. Not sure if an exception was made or not.

Robinson got a commission in the reserves, not the regular Navy, because of his height (he was already on a special waiver for being over the limit when he was admitted, but then grew another five inches or so). So, an exception was made, but not because of his atheletics.

You have to really want to continue playing football and really want to drive ships or planes or Marines and be willing to work very hard at academics. Thankfully, these students exist.

Having split my undergraduate years between a service academy and Michigan, I can tell you that roughly half of the cadets in each class are there on an athletic scholarship. Each congress person gets an appointment (~535) to each academy, and the rest are "presidential" appointees, which is a pseudonym for athlete. So the problem is getting the very best athletes who believe they will have a professional career. There are quite a few very good athletes who are willing to forego that in return for a good education and a guaranteed job in the Army, Navy, Air Force or Marines.

on our staff, but Jacksonville is paying most of that as part of his buyout. That's a reason he's on a one year contract, so he can get a big raise next year. I expect he will whether he stays or goes.

He has some experience as an OC. He and Soup are both underemployed at the moment.
Drevno already had the title and was getting the same salary as Durkin. It did seem like Fisch had a big role in calling plays. Perhaps Fisch's role is less than a co-OC, perhaps it grew during the season.
