OT- Navy's beyond cool helmets for next week
For next weeks Navy/Army game Navy will have players with differing ships per player painted on their helmets. Also, UNC and Clemson will both be in colors today as the movement begins for color clashes.

Both teams wear the home uniforms. I thought it would've been a cool tradition to start with Harbaugh/Meyer #1
December 5th, 2015 at 1:07 PM ^
I think it should be like that for every game. unless the primary color is the same, why not just allow the teams to wear their home jerseys? Most home jerseys are better than the away jerseys in my opinion.
December 5th, 2015 at 1:46 PM ^
Why would fans buy away jerseys if the team never wore them?

TRUE, WHAT ABOUT THE BRAND?????

As another proud USN veteran , I also think the helmets are great . Fear the GOAT, Go Navy!!

These are cool. I agree.
But this is the third time I've seen this posted. Seems like a simple search would have revealed that.

What bothers me is that they woke up and decided to rush over and share this when they have obviously not been following the board posts in the first place.
December 5th, 2015 at 1:10 PM ^
I will say as a person who has read mgo for years but just started commenting it seems like a 1000 or at least 500 pt min would serve the board well.
December 5th, 2015 at 1:43 PM ^
People will ask this a lot, and it is ultimately a Brian / Seth type decision if it ever happens, but I think the reluctance to change it stems from the fact they don't necessarily want to discourage people from trying to contribute as soon as they are able, but I do understand that some folks don't really show that they've paid much attention to some board traditions / strictures / actual rules when they do start making threads. People bring this to myself and the other mods quite a bit - this one is above our pay grade.
December 5th, 2015 at 2:01 PM ^
I proposed a 1000 point minimum during the slew of nonsensical posts earlier. I can see your point about wanting to get people involved earlier, however 100 is too low and very easily obtainable. Maybe as a compromise put it at 250.
December 5th, 2015 at 2:27 PM ^
wonder if you could help me out. I actually tried to look at older threads by hitting the previous thread numbers at the bottom of the MGoBoard, but every time I do this, it just sends me to older Diaries only. I do not know the method of getting to older MGoBoard threads. Why am I sent to Diaries?
Also. are Diaries and MGoboard threads kept in different places in archives? If so, why?
thanks

I have this issue as well. Hard to search and or scroll through. Sometimes I'm busy at work and can't check every :45 minutes. The board fills up with snowflakes, and you can't find the good posts. Upping the points for posting would help, but the negs are discouraging enough.

Right click the page you want and open in new window. I have no idea why that works as opposed to just clicking on the number in the current window. Drupal problems.

Because I can't get the image of the airbrushed van out of my head from when this was posted some time last week. But to each their own.

December 5th, 2015 at 12:53 PM ^
I admit I was coming here to be a jerk and mention how its been posted already. But I hadn't seen that each position group is wearing a different design. Thats pretty cool. Has any other team had different helmets in use at the same game?
December 5th, 2015 at 12:55 PM ^
USC and UCLA both wore home unis a few years ago. IIRC one got a 15 yd penalty on the kickoff becUse of it. Looked great.
Soccer teams do this often. I think as a viewer I like it. But I once heard that networks years ago required light vs dark uniforms because the guys in the truck, doing real time replays, had B&W monitors so they needed that contrast to tell the teams apart easily. Red v blue uniforms drive them nuts. I assume that in 2015 that is not an issue anymore.

USC and UCLA have always worn home uniforms for their game. The penalty issue was a result of a shortlived NCAA rule. IIRC, the penalty was a timeout, and the teams just agree to even it out and the non-penalized team to take a token TO. The rule was changed after maybe two years of that.
White away uniforms came as a result of black-and-white televisions, not just monitors. In the early days of TV, they realized it was virtually impossible to tell the teams apart, especially when helmets didn't have a lot of variation, either. Thus, white away uniforms. It also meant the advent of "TV numbers" on the shoulders so a camera shooting players from the sidelines could catch the jersey numbers.
December 5th, 2015 at 2:00 PM ^
It's beyond time to rescind that rule. We've had color TV for quite some time now.
December 5th, 2015 at 3:26 PM ^
Well, it was rescinded, so...

Im usual not a fan of the new unis but these are pretty sick. Still have to root for army though. As a Michigan fan we should be able to identify with the last decade they have had in the rivalry
December 5th, 2015 at 1:17 PM ^
Luckily, I am on the right side of this rivalry! 13 and counting.... Navy will blow them out next week.

Anything to compensate for the navy truthfully being overrated. And don't give me that seal team six bullshit. If delta had the a/o of paki-afghan in 2011, they would have raided bin laden instead. They just happened to have Iraq. Only time I saw the navy in a combat zone was when they were inspecting our travel bags at Al-Asad serving as a TSA unit. Real super cool.
Ok I'm done drinking.

Anyone willing to put their life on the line for millions of people they never met is clearly not over rated. Sure, some people take more risks in the military but that doesn't change the appreciation and respect they deserve..
December 5th, 2015 at 1:55 PM ^
As a marine on 2 combat deployments I would say you are dead wrong about the Navy. The Navy corpsman are truely remarkable and do thier jobs very well. I was proud to serve along side them. I have a few friends who would not be living today if it were not for them.
