DCC: Justin Wilcox

Submitted by Shakespeare on

He is the current DC at USC which is going through a "coaching change." Wilcox is 39 years old and considered one of the best young defensive coaches in the country.

He was Sarks DC at Washington and transformed that defense into one of the best in the country. He followed him down to USC and has done an awesome job with their defense this year. There are reports that new HC Clay Helton plans to shake up the staff.

His loose connection to Michigan would be that both Tim Drevno and John Baxter spent time coaching with him at USC. As I said, very loose connection to our staff but he's a young, by all accounts talented, defensive coordinator with linebacker coaching experience who's currently with a team going through coaching turnover.

I've watched a few USC games, despite having just loads of ridiculous talent USC's defense has been pretty inconsistent at stopping people.  Part of that is the Pac12 is a pretty good offensive conference put part should also be shouldered by the staff.

They got shredded by the 3 really good offensive teams they played, Stanford, ND and Oregon all put up 40+ points on them.

When Baxter and Drevno were hired...I sang their praises because I saw the amazing things they did at USC. On the other side of the coin, Wilcox will likely be let go by Helton because he is just terrible. This will not happen under Harbaugh...ever.

Wilcox is a shoe-in to get fired at the end of the year. I have a number of USC friends and they all can't wait. Imagine all of the talent of Michigan's D, and none of the results. That's USC. They've gotten torn up all year despite having 5* guys at virtually every position.
