Seems like a reasonable group of people to be on a committee like that, but what do I know. A little disappointing that Hackett has taken himself out of the running, but he warned us that this was going to happen many, many times.

Hackett was extremely successful in business before takinig the interim job.  He doesn't have to work if he doesn't want to.  I am not surprised he took on the job of AD, but definitely impressed, becuase it is a lot of work he really didn't have to do if he didn't want to.

He has left the football program and the Athletic Department in a good place.  I would go so far to say that it took him a year to repair at least 95% of the damage created by David Brandon in his five years of narcissistic incompetence.

And now, with football "back" and both coaches' contracts taken care of, he will go about finding his replacement in a competent and professional manner.  There is nothing to be sad about here.

Sorry, I have filtered through a lot before asking this, but can somebody catch me up as to why Hackett is stepping down. Through a couple of posts, people have referenced retirement. Is it voluntary and Hackett is choosing to be done? I ask because it seems obvious, but why wouldn't he just stay and get the interim tag removed?

I feel like it's already decided, but good for the University to at least have some people talk it over and make sure that Manuel is the right choice.

Honestly, I'd be fine with Hackett interviewing candidates and making the decision himself. I'm sure whoever Hackett thinks is the best fit would do an excellent job.

I guess it's just me, but I really don't think the new AD will approve of the Jumpman football uni's, most of the alumni/fan base I've talked to doesn't approve either.

Everyone on campus is very excited for Jumpman so it's weird hearing that from amir. He probably just wants kids off his lawn.

Also, people on this site revere Charles Woodson, and to a smaller extent Derek Jeter; both were sponsored by Jordan for sports that were not basketball...

The basketball with a football? Or edit out the basketball? There's a lot of jumping in football. I don't get how this is confusing people. They'll make it look cool. They pay people to do that.

I know I have a bunch of money sitting in my pocket waiting for the Jumpman Michigan gear to come out.

There is no way that a new AD comes in and tells Jordan and Harbaugh no.

Basically, if the new AD does anything to reverse anything that Hackett did, he/she will be setting themselves up for failure.
