Good article: 2011 Recruit
Came across this good article about Trey DePriest--4-start LB out of Ohio. Looks like we're nicely positioned, and he sounds like a beast. I'd be interested to hear if anyone knows more about this kid.

We will have to fight for him, as every big school in the country is recruiting him. Some on this very blog call him the most important recruit for 2011.

He specifically said that Michigan is "going to have to win more" if we want to be considered. Another 5-7 season isn't going to earn a commitment from him.

and Michigan will have a new football coach. Come on Coach Rod I have faith!!!

Agreed. One reason I believe he is a "must get" prospect is because if he does end up committing, it means that our record was likely 8-4 or better. It would also prove that RR is able to recruit top defensive talent out of Ohio.

The more interesting issue is if a 7 win season will be enough.

To land a player like DePriest, we have to win enough games next season to shut up the naysayers. I don't think a 7-5 record is going to do it.

6-6 or worse; Rich Rodriguez is fired
7-5; he's on the bubble
8-4 or better; his job is secure and the top recruits will come! This is a very important season for us all.

7-5 with a win over OSU?

He is a must get IMO. I'm also pulling for Lawrence Thomas. I've read we were his childhood team growing up just like Trey. I know it's tough to get a recruit out of Detroit Renaissance because of their ties to MSU but I believe RichRod can do it. I also believe things are gonna come together on the field this year too.

Would be huge pickup if we got Trey Depriest. However, if I don't like our chances unless we have a 9-3 type season. Not sure 8-4 is going to do it. And I don't like our chances to finish better than 8-4. Hopefully, we can get a stud OH recruit like S Ron Tanner. I think he wants to commit before his senior year, so if we could get him, maybe he would be in Trey's ear.
We're not getting Thomas either, although it would be awesome.
