Any bets with OSU fans?

Submitted by StephenRKass on

So I'm not one who typically bets. Never bet real money. However, my brother-in-law goaded me into a friendly wager. We were at Harry Buffalo's, a bar in Cleveland, to catch the games Saturday. And he challenged me to bet on the Game. He offered whatever points Vegas had, and the bet is for a buck. But I upped the ante. He owns a hardware store in Cleveland. If Michigan wins, he wears a Michigan t-shirt all day. (Adidas yellow Michigan tee is perfect). If Ohio State wins, I wear an OSU tie in the pulpit Sunday morning.

I'm curious, for those of you who are either from Ohio, have relatives in Ohio, or have OSU employees, or heaven forbid, work for an OSU fan, what kind of things you have wagered or will wager.

Also, I wonder about those of you who have married into an OSU household. Fortunately for me, my better half left the dark side when she married me, and is now a Michigan fan. Do any of you have spouses who actively root for OSU? I have to admit, I love the ESPN commercials (with Michigan/OSU couples).

p.s.  I was in Cleveland for a wedding (thankfully Friday night). Oh, the schadenfreude. I just couldn't really be too gleeful. When you have to see OSU relatives over many years, being civil and kind is helpful. It cuts both ways. I didn't razz them too much in the Cooper years. And they've been pretty kind not rubbing it in with Tressel and Meyer. I think the reason we're up for betting now is because the playing field looks much more even.

was a die-hard UM fan.  Had a buddy who was a die-hard Buckeye.  Bet was loser wears the opponent's tie to work the week after.  This was 73-82, so prime Bo/Woody era.  Remember getting a checkup one year -- mid/late 70s -- the week after a UM loss.  Hideous Col. Sanders' tie, with "Ohio" running down one way and "State" the other.  Not a happy doctor.

I have a buddy and whoever wins gets a framed pic of the other decked out in the others gear with the date if the game and the score. I've sadly worn way too much OSU gear in my lifetime, enogh in fact.

No bets with OSU fans...not that much of a sucker. I did make a bet with a buddy of mine who is an Iowa fan a couple of years ago (2011 in fact) that UM would win a B1G Championship before Iowa would...started at $1, then immediately rose to $5. Then it went up to $10 when HARBAUGH was hired...then the ante was upped again to dinner at Ruth Chris if and only if Iowa and UM met in the B1G Championship game this year. All in all, it looks like I might have to root to lose this bet next week...

Seeing how I live and work in Columbus (near downtown) yes me and two of my Coworkers have lunch bets on the game. After watching Sparty beat them Saturday they both have with-drawn from the bet.

They talked about how bad we were all season, talked about how we'd only win 6 games this year, now my boss said "We have no chance in hell to beat Michigan" it's crazy how a great coach will change even the biggest Ohio State fan perspective of your team.

We started working together 10 years ago (great f'ing timing).

If we win, he wears my Woodson jersey around the office for a week.

If we lose, I wear a stupid Eddie George jersey for a week.

I hate this bet so bad but there is no way I'm backing down from it.  Ever.

It's dinner on the line every year with a colleague of mine at tOSU, I have a guest research faculty appointment there though I live in New York. So we usually settle up in Columbus when I visit.

In another group at my office, there is indeed a Buckeye, a very nervous Buckeye at the moment, but we did make a small wager all the same. If Ohio State wins, I will buy him a nice lunch at a restaurant of his choice (within a reasonable distance of the office, of course, but that was his choice), and if Michigan wins, the buyer and benificiary are simply reversed. Oh, and the loser in each scenario displays the flag of the other school in their office for a week too.

If M wins, my buddy wears a Woodson Rose Bowl jersey for a week, complete with pictures in Heisman pose etc.

If OSU wins, I wear the jersey.

Buckeyes are stupid.

No, but I did steal my friend's OSU yard flamingos and I am putting them in compromising positions and sending him photos from my dummy email account.

I have a couple bets going on. I grew up in Columbus and am the odd man out by being a UM fan here. I have a couple $$ bets going on. My best friend and I have a bet where if UM wins he will have to wear my Harbaugh gear. If UM loses I have to wear an Ohio state jersey.

Not a fanbase. Ask anyone that has associated with them on the road. Seriously. Low class people that don't realize this is a game.

Living in the heart of Ohio I won't even entertain the thought of a bet. On the rare occasion that I've won the bet over the last decade or so getting them to actually pay up is like pulling teeth. Just a bunch of whining and excuses. It's best not to poke the bear and just enjoy the win.

My best friend for 42 years grew up a Buckeye. Weve watched the game together every year but 4. It got loud when we were younger, we are much quieter in our gloating these days. The bet has been the same for all 42 years 1 buck. I had the better of it for the first 30 years but its been all OSU since. As it stands today he is plus 1 dollar. The record is 21-19-1 but we played the tie like a carry over in skins so I took that dollar.

"Michigan fan" bets "Ohio State fan" to change into Michigan Gear right after the loss and have to taunt other Ohio State fans. This would have to take place in Columbus though.

My stepdad is a Buckeye and he and I have a standing bet every year. The loser has to use an enemy themed head cover on your driver all season. Needless to say Brutus looks terrible and the Michigan one looks brand new.

An Ohio State grad and a Michigan grad go into a pasty shop.

The Ohio State grad whisks three cookies into his pocket with lightning speed.  The baker doesn't notice. The Buckeye says to the Wolverine, "You see how clever we are? You Wolverines can never beat that."

The Wolverine says to the Buckeye, "Watch this, any Wolverine is smarter than a Buckeye, and I'll prove it to you."

He says to the baker, "Give me a cookie and I'll show you a magic trick."

The baker gives him a cookie, which the Wolverine promptly eats.

Then he says to the baker, Give me another cookie for my magic trick."

The baker is getting suspicious but gives it to him.  He eats this one too.

Then he says, "Give me one more cookie..."

The baker is getting angry now but gives him one anyway.  The Wolverine eats this one too.

Now the baker is really mad and yells, "Where is your magic trick?"

The Wolverine says, "Look in the Buckeye's pocket."

I bet the principal , a nun, on the game for two years during the middle of,the bo/woody era. I lived and went to school just south of the border. Lost the first year, a candy bar, and won a dollar the next year.

We could see the state line from the school...so,close,to,safety yet so far away.

Last January I was out with my two buddies that are Ohio fans. I bet them 5k each that in 5 years HARBAUGH would have a winning record against Meyer. If I won, 10k out of my own pocket. They lose 5k each from them. They wouldn't take the bet. I don't have that kind of money to throw away, but that's how confident I am in this staff.

This year for The Game just seems odd. OSU had been winning but didn't seem like a juggernaut. People kept waiting for them to "turn it on" and start playing better. Then OSU totally craps the bed at home and players are calling out the coaching staff in public and and announcing they are going pro. Is there a meltdown in the OSU locker room? Is Urbz losing control of the team? Will Elliot gash Michigan for over 200 yards? With all the variables I wouldn't feel comfortable betting on Michigan.

Told me Today he expected an OSU blowout win. He thinks OSU will take all their frustrations out on Michigan. I said we're game and ready to match OSU on the field. It will come down to us having Harbuagh even though OSU has more on paper talent. He said Harbaugh is an improvement over Hoke but he thinks Urban is a much better coach, I said, we'll see on Saturday.  He's been way over confident on his team since Tressel's been coach. I'm hoping Michigan can blow them out like in '69!
