Michigan to honor 44 4th and 5th year players Saturday!

Wow looks like we're now seeing how all these recruits are going to fit in!  Crazy to see a number that high.  Has there ever been this many people going out before?

Webb and Bumgardner had it up on Twitter.  My bad for not including it.  But being on a school computer as a teacher the school blocks social media.  But thankfully I can still post here!

And before any smart asses say "well if social media is blocked how did you see it on Twitter?!"  I was on my phone for that, but felt it was easier to put this up on a computer rather then an iPhone 4s!

The official roster lists only 40 players who are either "Sr." or "5th", so that would mean at least 4 players who are otherwise designated will be honored. Interesting...

(BTW, Michigan no longer lists redshirts on their official roster, so players in their fourth year are "Sr." whether they redshirted or not.)

Do we want to speculate on those 4 guys?

Morris, Butt, Lewis, ???

That... would not be fun.  And I doubt we would honor anyone that is transferring out instead of going pro early.  So if that were the case - count Morris out?  Who of our underclassmen could possibly go pro?  Chesson?

Wormley is on the list in the game notes. His name (which was listed last) must've been cut off when that guy copied and pasted the list.

I double-checked the game notes list against the roster. As I noted before, there are three names not on the roster: Chris Bryant, Antonio Poole, and Drew Berube. There's also Deyanco Hardwick, who's on the roster but as a sophomore, so I'm not sure why he's on the list of seniors being honored.

Looks like the included Chris Bryant and Antonio Poole on the list of honored players, so there area  couple of non-roster guys for you. A lot of walk-ons are listed as well, so there may be a couple who left the playing roster that I cant remember that are being honored.

This is a group that was witness to Michigan football at its most disjointed and tumultuous on many levels and they stuck together and stayed here and are seeing the beginning of a bright future for their team. I can't think of a better way for them to go out than with a win over Ohio State - that was be a fitting "thank you" in its own right.

Since I think Harbaugh's policy is to have potential 5th year players "try out" for additional year, I'm thinking that the players will have that opportunity during winter conditioning and spring ball, so there is no way for them to know now who it will be.  If any players does earn a 5th year, Harbaugh will likely do  as Beilein is plans to do - honor them twice.

44 sounds like a lot, but I wonder how many of those are walk ons. With the preferred walk on program, I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of turnover in the walk on ranks.

If you look at the game notes posted above, there's not much to worry about. Michigan is just honoring anyone in their 4th or 5th year of the program.

Some of the honorees include Chris Bryant (remember him?), Drake Johnson, Allen Gant, Ben Braden, Blake Bars, Jeremy Clark, Matt Godin, and countless walk-ons. None of these guys are leaving unless they're transferring, and most of these guys aren't gonna transfer. There's not much to worry about here.

Honoring all 4th and 5th year players, even those who still will have a season of eligibility in 2016, seems like a good way to make sure that some players who won’t be returning for a 5th scholarship year still will have a chance to receive special thanks on Senior Day at The Big House.

I’m just wondering whether having the ceremony for so many players before The Game might be a bit of a distraction from regular pre-game activities.

Have Chris Bryant, Bo Dever and Antonio Poole been working with the football team in some capacity since they stopped playing?

Maybe listing 44 for the honor is Harbaugh letting it be known that the "tryouts" next season for 5th year players is not to be taken lightly because thier ticket is already punched.

Beat Ohio State!

Even 30 seconds a piece to walk out with mom and dad is a heck of a pregame.  Maybe the will file out in commencement/parade style with players names read one after the other rapid fire.  Certainly not the spotlight Jordan Morgan had.

Player retention and graduation. Hoke gets a lot of crap, but his ability to keep guys around and to have them stick even after he was fired is a huge reason why Harbaugh is 9-2 right now.
