Devin Gardner Jersey #7?

Submitted by Michiganguy19 on

We all know that DG wore #7 at Inkster, and last season that # was assigned to both Brandin Hawthorne and Terrance Robinson. Do you think these guys will make way for DG to get #7.

Then everyone can dust off those Chad Henne (NIKE) Jerseys?

This shouldn't even be suggested. There is a scholarship fund set up for the #1 jersey being worn by elite wide receivers. This is not going to happen, regardless if we never have a "great deep threat receiver coming out of the richrod system," as you suggest.

How about #11, which isn't being used by anyone?

Roy Roundtree and Darryl Stonum could both be candidates for the #1 jersey. I'm sure DG will be issued a jersey from those that left; 4 was left by both Minor and Smith, 13 was left by Greg Mathews, but my guess is that Gardner will be given #7, and both Brandin Hawthorne and Terrence Robinson will be given different numbers.

Darryl Stonum makes one good play per year at the receiver position. It was against Purdue in 2008 and MSU in 2009. He's not getting the #1 jersey, at least not this year.

Why would Brandin Hawthorne have to change numbers? He plays defense. He and Gardner would almost surely never be on the field at the same time.

Stonum is only heading into his junior year, and his first two seasons he has had Threet and a freshmen/tate at QB, so I doubt that we have seen the very best of Darryl Stonum, and the same can be said for Roy Roundtree. I am guessing one of these two takes the #1 jersey before Big Ten play.

Good point about Hawthorne.

I would be very happy if Gardner wore Number 4. I purchased the Brandon Minor jersey the first year the new Adidas jerseys came out and was looking forward to rocking it next year when Brandon Smith was tearing the heads off of opposing offenses.

That's what I figured. Unless Terrence Robinson wants to or is willing to switch, but I think T-Rob was #7 in h.s. too.

Uh, of course there is one David Cone who currently wears #17.

Currently avail. QB #'s:
3, 4, 13.

One that I like as well, is 27. How about that? 27!?!

Check this out, and behold the great Don Moorhead, Bo's first Michigan QB in 1969. Number 27 in your programs and number One in our hearts....

By the way, I think that the Buckeye wearing #32 in the linked photo is Jack Tatum.

[Edit. - Mea culpa. Jordan Owens currently has #27; I thought it was a freed-up number. I'm sorry, Jordan, if you are reading MGoBlog. At least you got my link to that way-cool picture of Don Moorhead staring down Jack Tatum.]

Like Ryan Seacrest or Ellen DeGeneres, David Cone is O-U-T. He's gone like Donkey Kong.

P.S. I hope Jordan Owens hunts you down like a pregnant lady does peanut butter.

How about this? We give Gardner the #1 jersey. Then when he starts at QB this fall he can pass the ball to himself. Depending on how many completions the jersey could be worn by both the best widereceiver and QB. Ehh? Ehh?

This thread reminded me of a scheme Ive been thinking of..

I can't afford to buy a new jersey every year, nor can I afford to buy the current season jerseys. However, I can usually afford $10-15 at TJ Maxx.. I picked up 7, 20, and 86 in this fashion. My new thought is to pick up the older clearance jerseys every year. That way in a few years you could collect the majority of high profile numbers.. I'm hoping to get 4 and maybe 55 this off season or beginning of next year.

Unfortunately, I only make 1 or 2 trips to Michigan a year, so my odds of finding these are not in my favor.

I'm hoping DG takes 7, but I'm really hoping #5 will keep his stardom secret for a year or two!

Why move Stokes to a different number? Kids get to pick from the available numbers. Stokes has seniority. If he wants #6, he should keep it. Gardner can take what's left. Some of you are acting like Michigan should bend over backwards to appease him. He's just like any other freshman - low man on the totem pole.

Not sure if anyone else has seen this, but I just checked the umich directory for Devin Gardner, and it came up with a uniqname that was created this morning at 8:35 am. I assume that means he is in...?
