Devin Gardner Jersey #7?
January 18th, 2010 at 5:17 PM ^
I think DG will most likely wear #10.
January 18th, 2010 at 5:24 PM ^
I know players change numbers, but I believe Jeremy Gallon was #10 last year, I do not if he is changing his number or if anyone has heard anything about Gallon and what number he would have.
January 18th, 2010 at 5:47 PM ^
why do you think #10?
January 18th, 2010 at 7:37 PM ^
#7 was what he wore at Inkster. As for #10, I have no idea.
January 18th, 2010 at 7:55 PM ^
ok # 10 is for Vince Young. Gardner has been compared to him several times, hence he would wear #10.
January 18th, 2010 at 9:21 PM ^
He should get #20 because he'll be twice as great as Vince Young.
January 19th, 2010 at 8:49 AM ^
Your multiplication skills are impeccable.
January 19th, 2010 at 8:20 AM ^
There was a pretty good QB that wore #10 for Michigan.
January 18th, 2010 at 5:30 PM ^
So I can finally have some relevance for my Scott Dreisbach jersey.
January 18th, 2010 at 5:48 PM ^
Me too. That's the only Mich jersey I have ever owned. I don't know where it is anymore, but I have it somewhere. It would be sweet if I could find it and wear it again. Though I was 14 at the time, so it might not fit.
January 18th, 2010 at 8:45 PM ^
Uh, you mean your Roy Roundtree jersey?
January 18th, 2010 at 5:26 PM ^
how about #1. No great deep threat receivers coming out of the richrod system. Sorry to burst your bubbles.
January 18th, 2010 at 5:33 PM ^
This shouldn't even be suggested. There is a scholarship fund set up for the #1 jersey being worn by elite wide receivers. This is not going to happen, regardless if we never have a "great deep threat receiver coming out of the richrod system," as you suggest.
How about #11, which isn't being used by anyone?
January 18th, 2010 at 5:37 PM ^
Number 11 is retired
January 18th, 2010 at 5:39 PM ^
#11 shouldn't even be suggested, Wistert brothers own
January 18th, 2010 at 6:07 PM ^
Roy Roundtree and Darryl Stonum could both be candidates for the #1 jersey. I'm sure DG will be issued a jersey from those that left; 4 was left by both Minor and Smith, 13 was left by Greg Mathews, but my guess is that Gardner will be given #7, and both Brandin Hawthorne and Terrence Robinson will be given different numbers.
January 18th, 2010 at 6:18 PM ^
Darryl Stonum makes one good play per year at the receiver position. It was against Purdue in 2008 and MSU in 2009. He's not getting the #1 jersey, at least not this year.
Why would Brandin Hawthorne have to change numbers? He plays defense. He and Gardner would almost surely never be on the field at the same time.
January 18th, 2010 at 10:37 PM ^
Stonum is only heading into his junior year, and his first two seasons he has had Threet and a freshmen/tate at QB, so I doubt that we have seen the very best of Darryl Stonum, and the same can be said for Roy Roundtree. I am guessing one of these two takes the #1 jersey before Big Ten play.
Good point about Hawthorne.
January 19th, 2010 at 5:30 AM ^
Yes, but that doesn't mean he's worthy of the #1 jersey.
January 19th, 2010 at 8:23 AM ^
If you haven't earned the #1 by your Jr year than it isn't happening. I hope Stonum has his break out year but right now he's more of a Special teams threat than a Offensive threat.
January 18th, 2010 at 6:19 PM ^
Tate may want #4 again. Hawthorne weraing #7 has no bearing on whether DG gets it only T-Rob.
January 18th, 2010 at 5:30 PM ^
Assuming no one changes there number from last year #3, #4, #13, and #17, could be options
January 18th, 2010 at 5:32 PM ^
I hear #13 is lucky.
January 18th, 2010 at 5:40 PM ^
8 too
January 18th, 2010 at 6:37 PM ^
is #3 or 4, then. He seems like a one number kind of guy.
January 18th, 2010 at 5:48 PM ^
I would be very happy if Gardner wore Number 4. I purchased the Brandon Minor jersey the first year the new Adidas jerseys came out and was looking forward to rocking it next year when Brandon Smith was tearing the heads off of opposing offenses.
#4 Devin Gardner
January 18th, 2010 at 6:10 PM ^
My fiance bought be an M Jersey for Christmas (knowing not what number any player wears) so I too am hoping he grabs #4. Or someone else awesome. I could dig Cullen Christian in #4. Or MRob.
January 18th, 2010 at 9:25 PM ^
Well, his heart was in the right place.
January 18th, 2010 at 6:06 PM ^
Will forever be Rick Leach. I'm probably giving away my age here.
January 18th, 2010 at 6:06 PM ^
Yep, I've got a #7 Nike jersey.... I'm really hoping DG gets 7.
January 18th, 2010 at 6:54 PM ^
That's what I figured. Unless Terrence Robinson wants to or is willing to switch, but I think T-Rob was #7 in h.s. too.
Uh, of course there is one David Cone who currently wears #17.
Currently avail. QB #'s:
3, 4, 13.
One that I like as well, is 27. How about that? 27!?!
Check this out, and behold the great Don Moorhead, Bo's first Michigan QB in 1969. Number 27 in your programs and number One in our hearts....

By the way, I think that the Buckeye wearing #32 in the linked photo is Jack Tatum.
[Edit. - Mea culpa. Jordan Owens currently has #27; I thought it was a freed-up number. I'm sorry, Jordan, if you are reading MGoBlog. At least you got my link to that way-cool picture of Don Moorhead staring down Jack Tatum.]
January 18th, 2010 at 7:01 PM ^
Like Ryan Seacrest or Ellen DeGeneres, David Cone is O-U-T. He's gone like Donkey Kong.
P.S. I hope Jordan Owens hunts you down like a pregnant lady does peanut butter.
January 18th, 2010 at 7:10 PM ^
And I would beg his mercy. I can only hope that my offering up of a great Michigan football photo featuring his number 27 would satisfy his wrath.
January 18th, 2010 at 6:20 PM ^
How about this? We give Gardner the #1 jersey. Then when he starts at QB this fall he can pass the ball to himself. Depending on how many completions the jersey could be worn by both the best widereceiver and QB. Ehh? Ehh?
January 18th, 2010 at 7:41 PM ^
I did that with my running back in Road to Glory in NCAA 10. I was the best receiver/running back ever.
January 18th, 2010 at 7:13 PM ^
I'd like to see him wear a number in red. Actually, the whole shirt in red. A red shirt of sorts.
January 18th, 2010 at 7:16 PM ^
i might be out of the loop here... did we hear if he's enrolling early?
January 18th, 2010 at 7:18 PM ^
He was late at enrolling early, but yes, he starts classes tomorrow at UM.
January 18th, 2010 at 7:36 PM ^
"Early is on time, and on time is late!"
Welcome, Devin, early; right on time.
January 18th, 2010 at 7:38 PM ^
The full quote I always hear is
To be early is to be on time. To be on time is to be late. To be late is to have never shown up at all.
And he's late to class, oh noes!
January 18th, 2010 at 8:39 PM ^
he said "late means get your ass started on those laps."
January 19th, 2010 at 10:28 PM ^
Vince Lombardi; "if your 5 minutes early you're 10 minutes late."
January 18th, 2010 at 7:44 PM ^
I think adidas should just make him a jersey with the Superman "S" on front and back.
January 18th, 2010 at 9:23 PM ^
Since we all know Devin will be an All American at Michigan, I say we let him wear #55.
January 19th, 2010 at 8:52 AM ^
This thread reminded me of a scheme Ive been thinking of..
I can't afford to buy a new jersey every year, nor can I afford to buy the current season jerseys. However, I can usually afford $10-15 at TJ Maxx.. I picked up 7, 20, and 86 in this fashion. My new thought is to pick up the older clearance jerseys every year. That way in a few years you could collect the majority of high profile numbers.. I'm hoping to get 4 and maybe 55 this off season or beginning of next year.
Unfortunately, I only make 1 or 2 trips to Michigan a year, so my odds of finding these are not in my favor.
I'm hoping DG takes 7, but I'm really hoping #5 will keep his stardom secret for a year or two!
January 19th, 2010 at 9:44 AM ^
Either the number 8....Mouton and Sheridan had this previously. Or the number 6....Move Stokes to a different number, and Warren has left the building.
#6 or #8
January 19th, 2010 at 10:06 AM ^
Why move Stokes to a different number? Kids get to pick from the available numbers. Stokes has seniority. If he wants #6, he should keep it. Gardner can take what's left. Some of you are acting like Michigan should bend over backwards to appease him. He's just like any other freshman - low man on the totem pole.
January 19th, 2010 at 10:45 AM ^
Not sure if anyone else has seen this, but I just checked the umich directory for Devin Gardner, and it came up with a uniqname that was created this morning at 8:35 am. I assume that means he is in...?
January 19th, 2010 at 11:12 AM ^
It was reported over the weekend that Gardner got in. He was supposed to start classes today.
Let the directory stalking begin...
March 13th, 2010 at 12:06 AM ^
I'm friends with him on facebook, and he as a picture of his locker on it, and it said #7 on his locker, so I'm pretty sure he'll be #7
