Michigan Field Hockey and Volleyball Score BIG Wins

Submitted by VCavman24 on

Lost in the football action of today was two BIG wins by the Michigan Field Hockey and Volleyball Teams.

First, in its first game of the NCAA Field Hockey tournament, #10 Michigan beat #7 Wake Forest in Chapel Hill, N.C.  Michigan lost to Wake Forest earlier in the year 3-0 in Ann Arbor, so this is a big win.  Michigan advances to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2010 and will face #2 seed North Carolina.  Michigan lost to NC 2-1 in Ann Arbor earlier in the year, but that was the same weekend as the Wake Forest game, so the result certainly could flip.  The semifinal and NCG are in Ann Arbor this year as well, so that certainly could be cool to see.

The Michigan volleyball team also ended a 4-game losing streak with a sweep at #14 Ohio State.  Michigan had lost 6 of 7 coming in, including very close losses to OSU and Penn State at home, so this win can hopefully provide some momentum going into the final weeks and (hopefully) the NCAA tournament.

Lastly, Michigan Women's Basketball team scored a 90-62 win over Binghamton.

A great day. Great to upset #7 Wake Forest and exact revenge.

Now it all comes down to tomorrow. A win tomorrow and Michigan is going to be playing home games in the national semifinals.

Big test. 2 North Carolina. Played them very close to open the season in a one goal loss.

What a difference having Sam Swenson back from "suspension" is. I'd like to extend a nice "fuck you" to the B1G.

They handed Maryland the B1G Tournament title by suspending Swenson for a tap on the leg, and Maryland loses in the first round today to Princeton.

Volleyball picked up the win they needed for the tournament resume. To sweep them in crushing fashion was HUGE. Hopefully they can grab another one over a ranked team, but I think this gets them in.

To recap the last two days,

  • Men's AND Women's Cross Country win an NCAA Regional Championship
  • MBB wins its season opener
  • Hockey beats a team they're supposed to
  • Field Hockey upsets #7 Wake Forest in the NCAA First Round
  • WBB wins its season opener
  • Football beats Indiana in 2OT
  • Volleyball sweeps #14 Ohio State in Columbus
