Classy OSU Fans

Submitted by pistonsfan133 on

I know that Facebook references arent usually a good source or anything, but this doesnt really have anything to do with what a recruit thinks or anything. I just noticed on Facebook that this is what Devin Gardner's "status" is:

"Is Laughing Out Loud Because This OSU Fan That Looks To Be About 35+ Sent Me A Message Saying He Hopes I Tear My ACL!!! I Am So Loved!!...lol"

Another example of how classy OSU fans can be, start before our kids are even on campus.

Unicorns, leprechauns, consistency for Michigan basketball this year...

What? Oh sorry, I thought this was a thread to name things that don't exist.

It took me at least three months into my Michigan education before I could spot the difference between a douchenozzle and a 35 year-old OSU fan douchenozzle. DG hasn't even started classes here and he can already distinguish this.

Conclusion: I love Devin Gardner.

Can you imagine being a senior in high school and you open a message in you inbox on facebook and the message simply says, "i hope you tear you ACL." Gotta be different for them, at least he'll be on the winning side of the rivalry in the near future

...an empty comment box.

Or at the very least, "This message contains a picture of all of the classy OSU fans." (and either no pictures or a picture of Cooper.)

i am not sticking up for osu fans, but

no one here ever thought the same thing about troy smith?

no one here ever laughed when weis got injured on the sideline?

Uh there's a pretty big difference between absentmindedly wishing a player wasn't playing against us (injury, etc) and sending him a FB message saying that we hope he actually does get injured.

Also, Charlie getting hurt on the sideline isn't the same thing b/c even hurt he could coach from the box if he wanted to. That was funny b/c Charlie was (is) a fat arrogant ass. And we all know that watching fat people fall down is always funny.

I laughed outloud no less than 10 times upon seeing the Weis video and replaying it on youtube.

I never wished any harm on Troy Smith, however...

I can't help but wish Pryor gets hit so hard that his face mask actually inverts. That, I'm not proud of. But, it is true and it feels good to come clean.

Forgive me.

Are you serious?????

Is this real????

If so, I can't believe that someone would even say that..that is absolutely ridiculous. Wishing an injury on an 18 year old high schooler.....

That is seriously messed up. I wish I could see that asshole right now, I'd knock his fucking face in.

People who give their pets snobby names like "D'Artangnion" or "Estes" or "Mr Poignant"

Really. It's a fucking dog. All a dog cares about is if your couch is big enough for him to crawl behind and lick his balls.

If you take more than 13 second to figure out your pet's name, you really deserve to die.

There are crazy, classless people wherever you go. Some fanbases just have more than others. (emoticon winking)

Not all Buckeyes are classless though. I remember searching for info on Antonio Bass's injury a few years ago when I came upon this.

In fact, the guy at the bottom of the page, "BuckeyesKickButtocks," has for his avatar a pink ribbon with "Find the Cure" written on it. I find that kind of amusing (breast cancer itself is no laughing matter) because it sort of confirms or symbolizes that this is a particularly kindhearted group of Buckeyes.

took the rivalry to a place beyond sportsmanship, and, as Brian wrote some weeks ago, maybe he took a chunk of the fanbase with him into the dark side.

I think what will really heat things up again, though, is when experienced UM O and D make a real game of it. How far away do people think we were this year - just 5 to's, or did OSU still have strength in reserve to allow them to do the old Lloyd-style thing of "score just enough to win" in any case?

I disagree, respectfully. There are certainly older Buckeye fans who do their fair share of classless antics, but things weren't the way they are now. My dad the Buckeye was at OSU in the early 70s and he said that he saw none of the stuff the kids do now. A family friend who graduated from Michigan in the mid-80s said that even then, he would go to some UM games in Columbus but drink with Buckeye fans later that night, no problems whatsoever.

Woody was a bit obsessive about his hatred for Michigan, but he was still friends with Bo. I wasn't alive then, but I think that the public shenanigans of Bo/Woody made the rivalry more exciting. It's also important to add that, as far as I know, Woody never made comments about other players...he just punched them! You would, however, be hard-pressed to find Buckeyes who condone that.

I personally think that the recent OSU classlessness is due to a different generation that grew up suffering through the John Cooper years. Also, and I know this also sounds like an insult, but I really think that there are just a few more bad seeds at OSU and in Columbus.

And if there was a such a thing as a reflective Buckeye (like classy, extinct), they would be the ones to know what happened.

Seriously, all sports venom has been heightened, but exponentially at OSU, and I couldn't say why, but you have made me curious. Woody may have taken it too far, and didn't have the control Bo did, but they were cut from the same cloth. They would say it was the cleanest rivalry out there...you be sore from how hard everyone hit, but it wasn't chippy with talk and cheap shots. I don't know that is true anymore.

And maybe it was the losing under the Cooper years, so there wasn't much they could talk about, but I don't remember the utter animal side back in the day from down south. I mean, women and children USED to be able to travel to Columbus.

Maybe it'd be good to ask your dad, who if he let his son root for Michigan is reasonable enough, and see if he could analyze when and how the change happened. (Because it seems like he's not one of those OSU fans who are in denial, and say the same thing happens everywhere, and acknowledges the change). It'd make for an interesting post from you or someone with OSU ties, who could maybe look deeper into their own fanbase, and see where they went from admittedly having nothing to root for BUT the Buckeyes, and being...fervent ...to just this side of a prison break. Especially to Michigan, but to everybody (ask Texas fans what they think of their trip to Columbus...).

I take it back...they're on the bad side of a prison break down there...
