Last second buzzer beater. Iowa loses 76-74.
Yeesh.

How does this work since it was an exhibition game? Does this not actually count against them? (Assuming it's exhibition, right?)

Exhibitions do not count

Oh it most certainly counts against them, just technically not on their w/l record.
November 6th, 2015 at 10:18 PM ^
This sort of feels like evidence that gets struck in a trial. Sure the Committee isn't supposed to look at it, but there's no way they can actually ignore it.
November 6th, 2015 at 10:37 PM ^
MSU lost to GVSU one year and MSU went to the final four that year.
Yes it looks bad that they lost to a D2 school but it's an exhibition game where they play everybody for evaluation purposes.

Of course it isn't a death sentence. But if Iowa ends up on the bubble (and I just looked it up, they start the season at 36 per Kenpom so that's not an unreasonable prediction) I doubt the committee will overlook it as a tiebreaker.
November 6th, 2015 at 11:48 PM ^
The committee will have no idea they lost an exhibition game. They don't pay that close of attention.
November 7th, 2015 at 10:12 AM ^
Two things:
1) Exhibition games == Practice. Practice is not evaluated by the committee.
2) You give the committee to much credit.
November 7th, 2015 at 11:58 AM ^
It's not reasonable for the committee to consider games that don't count. While Iowa wasn't trying to lose, I doubt they were going all out to win, either. The committee is made up of ADs and conference commissioners and they actually explain their process and reasoning after they announce the field. I don't see any of them making an argument based on something they aren't supposed to consider.

osu lost to Findlay a few years ago too.

have detected no mourning rituals, no sack cloth and ashes to be seen. suspect the press will suppress this news, the people will forget about the game and the chinese communist method of 'openness' will filter the news for the poor iowans i see....

Foreshadowing Iowa's inevitable loss to Indiana tomorrow. Book it.

I like the idea of Michigan playing, and beating, an undefeated Iowa in the B1G championship game though.

YOU CALL THAT IMPROVING SHAREHOLDER VALUE?!
November 6th, 2015 at 10:24 PM ^
When my two year old gets really angry, she gets in a power stance, balls up her fists, holds her arms rigid and slightly above her sides, puts a twisted scowl on her face and starts to shake. I can't help but to laugh at the awkwardness of her whole routine. Instead of tantrums, I think I'll call them "Frans" from now on.
November 7th, 2015 at 8:44 AM ^
Frantrums?

is pretty much how I looked for the entire post-MSU week.

Augustana is one of the best teams in D2. They were ranked all of last season and No. 1 at one time. They're legit.

For D-2, yes, they're very good. Same conference (NSIC) that UMD plays in. But this is D-2, so it's not that high of a bar to clear. UMD's best player last year was a 6'5 center, for example.
But good for Augustana. Bad for Iowa. But this is a real exhibition, so I can't get too worked up about it.
Unless there are some good Fran shots. I'd like to see those.
November 6th, 2015 at 10:32 PM ^
but it is not unprecedented...Ohio State lost to Findlay and MSU lost to GVSU in the same year, 2007. MSU was ranked 8th at the time.
November 6th, 2015 at 11:33 PM ^
Wasn't that GVSU game an exhibition game?

Don't be so quick to dismiss, there is VERY good basketball being played at the lower levels.
November 7th, 2015 at 9:39 AM ^
D2 is very good basketball. The "this is D2 so it's not that high of a bar to clear" is a statement that's not close to accurate. There's so much talent in D2 due to D1 transfers being eligible to play immediately and easier requirements for eligibility.

As probably the only the only alumnus of Augustana on the MgoBoard, I must say, this is pretty frickin' cool. Augie (as we're affectionately known) is a really good D2 program. But yeah . . . D2 program. Oh Iowa . . .
November 6th, 2015 at 10:48 PM ^
Davenport, Iowa located in the quad cities (where Augie is located as well) and I go to the University of Iowa. Congrats to you guy's, big win.
November 7th, 2015 at 12:35 AM ^
Sorry but this was the South Dakota Augustana. I'm in Iowa too...would've been cooler if t'was the Rock Island Augie!
November 7th, 2015 at 1:55 AM ^
As an alum of the real Augie in Rock Island. I agree. They play pretty good ball there too. National Runner-up last year in D3.
November 6th, 2015 at 11:56 PM ^
Not an alumnus of the school, but growing up and graduating high school from Sioux Falls I have many acquaintances who attended Augie. Most of my family graduated from SDSU while I graduated from the University of Sioux Falls. That being said, I will never cease to enjoy any loss of any school from the state of Iowa to any South Dakota university. Those weirdos need to learn how to drive.
November 6th, 2015 at 10:29 PM ^
After watching the embed, the game is only a shocker because I was ignorant of how good Augustana is. Congrats to those young men.

of Orange City. Kid should have gone D-1 but here in the boondocks of Northwest Iowa we don't get much attention from P5 schools. Maybe this shot will wake up some of the bigger schools to Danny's younger brother Levi, a tremendous 12th grade point guard.
