Basketball Open Thread
Less than 30 minutes until kickoff. Figured I'd start a thread. Predictions?
I'll say Michigan is up and down all night but somehow pulls off a nail biter.
MOD edit, anyone unable to watch, here ya go

I dont believe they kickoff in basketball, perhaps tipoff?
My prediction, I expect Indiana to win by 8 unfortunately.
January 14th, 2010 at 8:43 PM ^
I was shocked by the line -13.5 for Michigan. I think I'd gladly take IU to cover.
And yeah you're right... It is tipoff but dammit I miss football!

I keep telling myself its less than 9 months until the Uconn game. I was really hoping the b-ball season would help, but its just making the time go by slower.
January 14th, 2010 at 8:52 PM ^
And I was hoping that we'd go to the tourney again and even get to the sweet 16 with this team. And I was also hoping for a deep run to the Frozen Four for hockey...
I feel like this:
January 14th, 2010 at 8:54 PM ^
Charlie Brown should sue that bitch...
January 14th, 2010 at 8:44 PM ^
Michigan by 10. LLP rekindles his on again/off again relationship with his shooting touch...
January 14th, 2010 at 8:46 PM ^
on the way to a 20 point blowout.
I mean, something has to go our way, right?
January 14th, 2010 at 8:47 PM ^
"year of infinite pain" or "Michigan major sports hating God"
January 15th, 2010 at 12:19 AM ^
+1 to you.
Manny got 21. We win by 24.
By how much will we beat UConn?
January 14th, 2010 at 9:03 PM ^
I would be shocked, okay maybe mildly surprised if we lost this game. But then again Michigan sports are tanking so hey who knows?
January 14th, 2010 at 9:06 PM ^
Nice to see Sims start off going down low, even he did miss it
January 14th, 2010 at 9:17 PM ^
I caught part of an episode of your show, and I literally saw this guy walking down the boardwalk with his girlfriend and then spontaneously get into a fight with this other guy and his girlfriend who were taunting Jersey Shore guy/gal combo.
So they start fighting on the boardwalk, the girls are all up in it and then it cuts to this guy in a white tank top on a couch calling a bunch of girls he may or may not know to "come drink with him". Said guy then gets a frantic phone call from a girl describing that his buddy is in a fight on the boardwalk! Oh noes! So he quickly puts on his basketball high tops, (but not a shirt?) and presumably goes to his friend's rescue. Thank God it went to commercial because I don't think I could watch anymore after that.
Seriously?
January 14th, 2010 at 9:24 PM ^
Exactly, it is just so unbelievably bad that makes it so unbelievably awesome lol.
Maybe its just a guy thing
January 14th, 2010 at 9:22 PM ^
we're going to play football tonight at Crisler.
January 14th, 2010 at 9:23 PM ^
Wright needs to just not play.
January 14th, 2010 at 9:26 PM ^
this is some cotdamn ugly basketball.
January 14th, 2010 at 9:38 PM ^
Yeah that's it!
January 14th, 2010 at 9:30 PM ^
Is it me or does Tom Crean look like Tom Arnold?

BLUUUUUUUE!
January 14th, 2010 at 9:57 PM ^
GOOOOOOOOO...
January 14th, 2010 at 9:42 PM ^
Jay Bilas is going to tell us just how dirty of a player Novak is for swatting that ball away, taking away an easy layup.
January 14th, 2010 at 9:46 PM ^
We might be the better of two very poor ball teams on that court tonight. I'm not sure anything is going to stop the bleeding this year in the major sports. The bigger question is what are we going to look like in basketball next year with Harris and Sims gone? OUCH
January 14th, 2010 at 9:49 PM ^
This game is absolutely hideous. Let's give both team a loss and just end it at halftime so we can all watch Jersey Shore....
Kidding, but ugh what an ugly game.
January 14th, 2010 at 9:50 PM ^
HOLD ONTO THE DAMN BALL
January 14th, 2010 at 9:52 PM ^
Can we, like, um not turn over the ball every possession?
January 14th, 2010 at 9:53 PM ^
Just let Vogrich shoot it from 30 every time. It's better than watching LLP turn it over
January 14th, 2010 at 9:57 PM ^
When's the last time we actually scored when we had the ball last before halftime?
January 14th, 2010 at 10:00 PM ^
Sims! LLP not exactly lighting it up.
It's clear from this game that Michigan has superior talent. IU has no answer to Sims.
January 14th, 2010 at 10:01 PM ^
Bo Ryan does NOT look amused to be a part of that Big Ten coaches commercial. That guy is one intimidating dude.
January 14th, 2010 at 10:02 PM ^
As bad as it is for my health, I'd rather Harris experience a couple more games like this, be told by the scouts that he won't be drafted, and return next year. Right now, it is hard to watch him or LLP with the ball because they look lost out there. I'm just hoping the team can make it to the NIT finals so that I can see them in NYC.
Ugh, that hurt to write that.
January 14th, 2010 at 10:15 PM ^
guy behind Musberger seems like a giant tool.
January 14th, 2010 at 10:15 PM ^
Watching this team is almost as bad as when Brian Ellerbe was the coach...I'm all about having continuity with the basketball program, but I'm not sure Beilein is the right coach. If Manny Harris leaves like most of us expect, we may score 40 points a game next year. Honestly, if Trey Zeigler doesn't sign, we have nobody next year. I know Dave Brandon will be new on the job but I can't believe he will stand for watching a team similiar to "Hoosiers" out on the basketball floor. Crisler arena, next year will be lucky to have the lower bowl filled. I know Beilein has had success in his previous jobs, and I support him, but honestly, he needs to step up and recruit players. I'm all about these white guys sharp shooters from the State of Indiana, but if you don't have a big man in the middle, and a supporting cast, these Stu Douglass, and Zach Novak types will never get you past the NIT. Watching tonights game is bad enough, imagine it without Manny and Sims? Next year is going to be brutal.....
January 14th, 2010 at 10:16 PM ^
Ok. Serious question. I know Manny has NBA talent and will likely go to the NBA. He is putting up pretty good numbers this year. All the scouts last year told him he needed to improve his mid-range game and his 3-pt shot. Has he really improved either? Has he improved his draft stock at all? Don't get me wrong. I love Manny. He's got serious game. However, I still think, at this point in the season, he could maybe benefit from another year. I just don't think his draft stock or arsenal of skills has improved that much, if at all from last year. What do you guys think?
January 14th, 2010 at 10:59 PM ^
I'm no scout, but his jumpshot is nowhere near NBA ready. It looks like he's improved his release point a lot from last year, but he's still badly off balance on most of his shots - like the wide open catch-and-shoot look he had in the first half tonight when he still kicked his legs out. You don't have to be a deadly shooter to make it in the league, but Manny's not a particularly strong defender, either, and overall I just don't see him sniffing an NBA rotation, and probably not a roster, next year.
EDIT: I really hope I'm wrong, even if it means him collecting checks next year.
January 14th, 2010 at 10:16 PM ^
Not a held ball there.
January 14th, 2010 at 10:23 PM ^
I've seen pickup games at the CCRB with better offensive execution than I've seen tonight from either team. Michigan's lack of a point guard to initiate the offense is glaring.
January 14th, 2010 at 10:23 PM ^
Anyone else just see Sims pretty much shove Vogrich after he missed that lay-up? That's not what a freshman needs. Even if he was in the way...come on. Obviously I don't know and can't really speculate, but it really seems like they're missing Lee and Merritt from a leadership perspective this season.
January 14th, 2010 at 10:23 PM ^
Help me out. Are we getting worse as the season goes on? Or is it just me?
January 14th, 2010 at 10:53 PM ^
No, we've looked pretty bad all season.
January 14th, 2010 at 10:25 PM ^
Does Wright get back in before Manny?
edit: Guess not
January 14th, 2010 at 10:25 PM ^

So, what you're saying is Steve Lavin's hair is plasma?

exactly
January 14th, 2010 at 10:27 PM ^
Even Musberger can't hyperbolize this game into something interesting.
