The terms of Beilein's extension call for him to earn a base salary of $400,000 with additional compensation of $1,470,000 per year for TV, radio, internet, shoe/apparel sponsorships, consulting, promotion and other services. In separate deferred payments, Beilein will receive an additional $1.5 million annually through the University's Supplemental Defined Contributions Retirement Plan.
The contract also provides opportunities for supplemental pay based on a range of performance measures from winning the Big Ten regular-season title and tournament championships as well as selection to and victories in the NCAA Tournament.
The perception already was that he was here through retirement—Michigan would be insane to let him go—but it was time to do this again because his last contract, signed in 2013, would have expired when this year's freshmen are seniors. When this one runs out he'll be 68.

Actually Louisville is the Star Trek Mirror Universe version of Michigan. Pitino even has Mirror Universe Kira doing his recruiting for him.

Coach K's career bests Beilein's by a wide margin (of course) but I wouldn't say Cutcliffe holds up his end in terms of make Duke a better 1-2 punch.
Billy Donavan coaches the Thunder now, so Florida no. Only other candidates would be Meyer and Matta.
In some ways it sucks that our two biggest rivals are also admittedly two of the stronger football-basketball schools ... but it's also cool that we're just as strong a factor as them in that distinction and it makes for great rivalries. I think Bleacher Report or some site did a "top 10 all-time football-basketball combination schools" and it went Michigan 1, OSU 2, MSU 3. When you think about it that's probably accurate.

Meyer and Matta are unquestionably both excellent coaches, but I'll gladly take hi-functioning lunatic + high school science teacher over sociopath + goblin any day of the week

Toss AD in the mix and no one comes close to Hackett, Harbaugh and Beilein. There's not been one bad day since Hackett was brought in.

I don't believe Beilein will ever bring Michigan up to parity with the big shots of the sport in Durham, Lawrence, Lexington, or Chapel Hill.
That's ok. Michigan is competitive. We have good players that know what they're doing. Basketball season is tons of fun. I care about what happens in March now. That's what we hoped for, a basketball team that mattered, a team that made the tournament and occasionally made runs.
Think about this: Michigan made the NCAA championship game. You know, the last game of the season. And it wasn't a fluke. They were good.
After decades in the wilderness, it still strikes the imagination. Beilein forever.
