Both Harbaugh-coached teams win 29-26

I thought the 29-26 score which brought the jug back to Ann Arbor was unusual. A quick scan of Michigan historical scores indicates yesterday's game was the first for the wolverines with that score. Then, less than 24 hours later, John Harbaugh's Baltimore Ravens defeat the San Diego Chargers by the same score; but with a late tie-breaking FG, no goal line stand. Go Blue!

by getting the easiest schedule possible every other year because they got their ass kicked the opposite years and led Barry Sanders to retire early as a protest to their inept front office. This even before out doing themselves by hiring Millen.

People forget about that.  But I've seen those Lions teams win in Dallas and beat the stuffing out of San Francisco.  Plus they do have the only playoff win in the Super Bowl era.  

Bobby Ross did the Lions no favors though.  He clashed with Barry which helped make his retirement easier.  I love Barry, but still think he retired in a soft way by faxing in his retirement.  I thought his teammates deserved better.

Why would you want that to happen John? That place is career suicide. 

Reason #1615 why college sports are better than professional: no owners.

You can't fire an owner. If your team has a bad owner, you're doomed.

Career suicide? Come on WD. Stop hating on the LIONS. Lions would do very well with a proven coach. Just look at the past 4 or 5 hires. Disasters. John would do very well in Detroit. In fact, he is more likely to get a better control of the front office, than what he gets in Baltimore.

Lmao. I feel sorry for you and your line of thinking. The Lions have had five general managers in the last 60 years. Let that sink in for a second. A team that only has one playoff win since 1957 allows its general managers to stick around an average of 12 years. If that isn't inept ownership, I don't know what it is. You'd be an absolute fool to take a job with the Lions.

Fair enough. I wouldn't hold your breath on anything changing in the Lions fortunes until they sell. Hopefully when Martha passes on to her great reward, the four kids sell it to Dan Gilbert and they each walk away with a quarter billion dollars. They've held Detroit hostage long enough.

What if the Lions offered him full control? Bill Parcells left the Patriots after the Jets gave him complete control over football operations.

The problem with the Lions....no one knows who's in charge. If Martha Ford is running things, I don't see anything changing. Bill Ford needs to take over the team and finally fix this miss.

If John is let go after this season, I think there is a very real chance he comes to Michigan.  Grew up in Ann Arbor, coached at Western Michigan, has already won a Super Bowl, and hasn't had much success in college.  He has strong ties to the midwest with other gigs at Indiana, Pitt, and Cinci.  And if Hoke gets a job (more and more likely) Michigan will have some money to spare.

I don't know about this. Brothers and sports don't work out. I can definitely see them getting in a fight on the sidelines. Me and my brother fought every time we were on the basketball court together. It doesn't matter if we were on the same team or different teams or if we were just playing something stupid like knockout. Every damn time. We can't even talk about it now. It's a big joke with our friends because they know all they have to ask is..."seriously, who was the better player" and they know it's about to get heated...

P.S. I was by FAR the better player

Why would any qualified  coach come to Detroit. Both Bobby Ross and Jim Caldwell have Super Bowl experience before coming to Detroit and have failed. Until the Fords sell the franchise why would any good coach come to Detroit.

This is just an observation, but it is getting to a point now where it is pretty clear that continual on-field changes really aren't attacking the core problem - there needs to be some changes above the field, if you will, up to and including new ownership. With that I would agree. Even if the Fords didn't sell, faces other than Mayhew and Lewand might be a small step in the right direction.

Sadly, there is no evidence that they would do that, even if the fan in me is forever hopeful that Bill Jr. might have some sort of revelation somewhere down the road, but it hasn't happened and current trend would point to this being ulikely. If I really could get everything that I wanted, the Fords would not own the Lions, to be quite honest, but I was trying to hedge my bets on that particular wish there.
