OT: UCF's George O'Leary resigns
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/ucf-knights/os-ucf-coach-george-o…
Not sure if he's "retiring" (likely) or "resigning"...but he's done at UCF.

I excepted this to be his last year regardless, same with Spurrier and same with Beamer

Is there an echo in here?
October 25th, 2015 at 4:14 PM ^
I felt that an opinion or prediction shouldn't have been shared with the OP which should just be link. So I put that part in a post and removed from the OP.

You are expectional

Thank you

Echo.....
October 25th, 2015 at 4:12 PM ^
I wish caldwell would do the same for the lions
October 25th, 2015 at 4:27 PM ^
that John Harbaugh is coaching the Lions next year
October 25th, 2015 at 4:31 PM ^
I think Jim Harbaugh could easily coach two teams at once and excel at both. I'd like to see him take on the challenge.
October 26th, 2015 at 12:14 PM ^
Thanks for reading. Try again next time.
October 25th, 2015 at 4:31 PM ^
The Lions need a leadership change from the Lewand, Mayhew regime before they can lure in top NFL coaches. It's been brutal to see the chronic apathy of the team through the years. I blame it on the top.
October 25th, 2015 at 4:50 PM ^
By "the top" I'm assuming you mean the Ford family.
- - -
The word is out and has been for many years. Only desperate clowns will work for the Fords and put up with their micromanaging. With a few exceptional spurts, the Lions will be mediocre until there's an ownership change.
October 25th, 2015 at 6:57 PM ^
Ford actually don't micromanage. They generally let people work on their own.

Lately, it has dawned on me that until the upper levels of the Lions organization are aligned more with the practices of tradionally winning organizations - and yes, that probably means the end of Lewand, Mayhew and quite a few others as well as someone other than the Fords owning them - we can sit around and blame coaches and players all we want but it would only get so much better....or a lot worse. Lasting change in Allen Park would begin with some serious adjustments in the front office and in management culture.
October 25th, 2015 at 8:03 PM ^
When I was a teenager, I remember my dad saying the same thing about the Ford family. It's sad that they have been allowed to keep a team this long with the NFL "all concerned about parity". Sure they are.
When William Clay Ford died, I thought his son would change things up a create a winner. Now, I think they know how to run a team just well enough to milk it for cash each year. And the sucker fans are given just enough to keep them coming back - just like Cub fans.
I'm in Atlanta now. Time to Rise Up and follow a new team.
October 26th, 2015 at 8:36 AM ^
From what I hear, Bill Ford is not running the show - his mother, Martha, seems to be calling the shots. Maybe it is time to let Bill sit in the driver's seat (see what I did there?).
October 26th, 2015 at 9:56 AM ^
Bill Ford was instrumental in getting Matt Millen hired. Two years ago, he had his chance to clean house and still kept two Millen cronies in Mayhew and Lewan. I don't trust him one bit. Our only hope is that family infighting forces them to sell the team.
October 26th, 2015 at 2:36 PM ^
I think if the fords sell the team, the lions go elsewhere.
Undoubtedly them they'd be successful.

hahaha WHAT?! I'd bet you a million dollars that if the Fords were to sell, Dan Gilbert would ditch the Cavs like hot garbage. And even if they were sold to someone from <dun dun dun> OUT OF STAAAATE, there is zero reason to move the team with their brand new stadium.
October 28th, 2015 at 12:25 PM ^
Sure there is a reason. Depends on how much the team has invested in the stadium.
Detroit is a decent sports town; but LA has alot of people and Money; and I'm sure the NFL would like a team there.

Dantonio to UCF. Book it.
October 26th, 2015 at 12:18 PM ^
Hey, Bill Ford lives in Ann Arbor. All he has to do is sell John on that M-14 commute and Jim'll do the rest
October 25th, 2015 at 5:22 PM ^
I wish the Ford family would do the same.

Owners don't make a difference. Look at Arizona Cardinals and Cincinnati Bengals, same shitty owners yet they're contenders because they have the right GM and coaches. GM and coaches are far more important than owners

So we have to wait until Lions ownership luck into hiring a good GM and coach....sadly I don't see it happening. In 58 years we have one playoff win, even the lowly Jags have five. Ownership must be doing something wrong with that kind of luck.
October 26th, 2015 at 12:21 PM ^
There's truth in this, but at the same time you have to have competent owners to hire good GM's and coaches. You might luck into one, as Cincinnati and Arizona have, but it's unlikely to happen so long as the Ford's are in charge. Can't get good coaches without a good GM. Can't get a good GM without a good owner (or without a little luck on your side that your crappy owner somehow snags a capable GM).
On another note, kind of amusing that the Ford's haven't been able to hire or keep good GM's.

Michigan plays UCF next year.
Likely that Norm Chow at Hawaii gets the boot, as well. 2/3 non-conference opponents will have new coaches.
October 25th, 2015 at 4:20 PM ^
They're never going to be good at Hawaii with the funding a facilities.
UCF could be a mid-level POWER if they had a good head coach. The Fiesta Bowl/Baylor win was a flash in the pan.
If they would've gotten Rich Rod or Charlie Strong along the way, they'd be in a major conference like TCU.
Has no bearing on Michigan next year...because a new coach is going to need time, but there's SO much potential to be great at UCF it's not even funny. Especially over the past 5-6 years with Miami down and Florida struggling until this year.
They kept GOL and may have very well missed their window.
October 25th, 2015 at 5:40 PM ^
Hawaii was actually a competitive team not too long ago... They ran some run n gun offense or something with that Colt Brennan and they went 12-1 I think... They beat Boise that year...
October 25th, 2015 at 6:00 PM ^
When the school wouldn't give June Jones the money and updated facilities, he bolted to SMU. They haven't be able to recover from his departure.
October 26th, 2015 at 8:57 AM ^
I'm not sure that Mike MacIntyre is safe at Colorado either. Plus, Illinois will have a new head coach (probably Cubit, but with an official title). Randy Edsall is not feeling too comfortable at MD either. The, all we need is for someone to take a better job (I'm looking at you Mork) and we would be facing new coaches in half our games.
October 26th, 2015 at 10:22 AM ^
He got fired two weeks ago. So I'm not surprised he wouldn't feel very comfortable at Maryland at this point. :)
October 25th, 2015 at 4:22 PM ^
This is UCF for Godssake!
May be a good fit for him.He will have plenty of 3* QBs to choose from.
October 25th, 2015 at 5:09 PM ^
With Spurrier gone at S. Carolina, Jon will likely be looking for a job.
October 25th, 2015 at 4:22 PM ^
Is he finally getting that master's degree?
October 25th, 2015 at 7:04 PM ^
No, but I am sure he is updating his resume today. You know, editing, reformatting, adding shit that never happened...
October 26th, 2015 at 8:59 AM ^
When it was all said and done, where was the targeting call? That Minnesota player should still be on probation.
If I'm Harbaugh, I'm playing that video on a loop in the locker room all week long.
Time to settle a few unresolved things.
October 26th, 2015 at 9:27 AM ^
so how could you call targeting?
October 26th, 2015 at 10:13 AM ^
Exactly! Watching this really gets me fired up again. I guarantee the team sees this clip a few times this week, and I hope they pummel the shit out of Minnesota.
October 25th, 2015 at 4:24 PM ^
I mean, did anyone actually see him on the sidelines yesterday?
October 25th, 2015 at 4:27 PM ^
DJ Durkin...no, hell no.
Geoff Collins, the current DC at UF for McElwain has UCF ties. I could see that one.
Al Golden if they want another New England retread like O'Leary
There aren't any sexy names on the offensive side of the ball like Herman or Morris.
October 25th, 2015 at 7:04 PM ^
Hot candidates are Tom Herman, and Justin Fuentes. Both should get calls by power 5 schools.

From 12-1 and BCS Bowl victory to probably 0-12 in 2 years. I know they lost bortles but the rest of that class also must have been pretty good
