That's Luke reaching out to touch R2D2....
October 20th, 2015 at 9:52 AM ^
logical your conclusion is....but defies logic life can........
Anakin lost the same hand didn't he. Perhaps its a flashback. The logic is that its Luke but they don't show, nor have any of the previews shown Luke's face and he doesn't appear on the official poster. Han Solo is clearly going to be the primary link to the original trilogy for this movie. Maybe we don't see Luke until the next movie.
I don't know why but I have this gut feeling that Han Solo might get killed in this movie.

That trailer was sex.

That trailer was way better than sex; don't sell it short.

Much sex

So stoked for thiiiiiis! Anyone else having trouble with Fandango not working?
October 19th, 2015 at 10:50 PM ^
I love everything about this. The visuals, the characters, the effects, the dogfights, etc etc. Perfect trailer (though I must say, making a trailer for Star Wars XII is definitely easy mode). JJ Abrams is the fucking man and I have no doubt that this will be an unreal movie start to finish. Midnight premier get hype!
October 19th, 2015 at 11:06 PM ^
Agree with easy mode, especially when you have the original cast members at your disposal. That said, it lloks like the opposite of the prequels, which felt like just a vehicle to sell toys to a new generation from the get go.
October 20th, 2015 at 10:19 AM ^
I like the prequels. Episode 3 is my favorite. I'm 33 before you ask.
October 20th, 2015 at 10:58 AM ^
"Nnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!"
October 20th, 2015 at 2:41 PM ^
Your opinion is wrong, but I upvoted you for the "I'm 33 before you ask," which was worth a chuckle.
October 19th, 2015 at 11:28 PM ^
Almost totally agreed...but Star Wars 12? Really?
October 20th, 2015 at 9:21 AM ^
There will be lots of screen flares, for sure.
October 20th, 2015 at 10:20 AM ^
lens flare*
Also, I have a feeling there won't be much in this movie. I don't mind the lens flare.
October 20th, 2015 at 10:59 AM ^
WAIT, this is Episode 12???? So are they going to go back and do 5 "mid-quels"?
October 19th, 2015 at 10:50 PM ^
Looks so good. I have so many questions though
October 19th, 2015 at 10:55 PM ^
A good trailer does enough to get you hyped for a movie without revelaing to much of the story. This was a GREAT trailer
October 19th, 2015 at 11:09 PM ^
I love how the events of the original movies have faded into lore and stories people aren't doubt are even real. I can't wait for them to flesh out how that happened.
October 19th, 2015 at 10:51 PM ^
This movie looks awesome!
October 19th, 2015 at 10:52 PM ^
I'm taking the day off work, gotta see that at least twice. That trailer looks incredible. Can't wait for the film!!!
Where's Luke Skywalker though? Not on the poster, not in the trailer? What gives?
October 19th, 2015 at 10:54 PM ^
Luke went in hiding to keep his steamy relationship with Jar Jar Binks hidden from everyone..
October 19th, 2015 at 10:55 PM ^
Presumably, the bionic hand on R2-D2 is Luke's
October 19th, 2015 at 10:56 PM ^
Why are you in my anxiety closet???
October 19th, 2015 at 11:29 PM ^
Calm down.
Bill and Opus will fix everything.

very stoked for this. glad you posted because I considered breaking the OT rule for this.
kylo ren looks badass. commander phasma also looks cool.
there are all kinds of rumors swirling around Luke. will he die early like Qui Gon Jin and Obi-Wan?
I can't wait. the new movie poster is my desktop on my PC.
October 20th, 2015 at 8:02 AM ^
They don't kill off Kylo Ren too soon. Also, I read somewhere that Mark Hamil was in Ireland, filming episode 8 (of course, he could be a ghost).
October 19th, 2015 at 10:58 PM ^
How many Midichlorians does it take to screw in a light bulb?
October 19th, 2015 at 10:59 PM ^
I'm also nervous after how bad the last 3 were, and I can't stand JJ Abrams, but this looks awesome.
October 19th, 2015 at 11:05 PM ^
I thought he did a nice job with star trek - into darkness, which gives me hope for this movie.
October 19th, 2015 at 11:28 PM ^
I didn't care for either Star Trek, and I hated Lost...but I've also always been biased toward Star Wars.
I just thought they tried to make Star Trek too funny; sure hope they don't do that to this film. It doesn't look like that's the case though.
October 20th, 2015 at 12:17 AM ^
Check out the comic con video, it's what sold me. They are making a huge effort to use practical effects, physical sets and costumes, etc and not overly relying on CGI so they create a world that has weight and feels tangible. So much of the last 3 movies felt so obviously like disjointed actors acting (poorly) in front of green screens that were cobbled together later. This movie doesn't have that at all. All the clips one seen feel gritty and real.
October 20th, 2015 at 9:09 AM ^
They can say all they want that they are going for practical effects but the X-Wing and Tie fighter fights that they showed in the trailer look like just regular CGI-fests no different from the ones in the prequels.
October 20th, 2015 at 9:44 AM ^
They never said no CGI, just that they were trying to only use it when it makes sense. Space scenes lend themselves to CGI. Characters and dialog don't. I think most, if not all the characters and creatures will be actual actors in suits or puppets.
October 20th, 2015 at 10:42 AM ^
Most of thecharacters in the prequel trilogy weren't people in suits or puppets either. What really hurt those movies is that the action scenes were boring CGI light shows that had more in common with an anime cartoon than the original trilogy, dragged on endlessly, and didn't advance the plot.
Basically what it sounds like is that they are just using humans and shooting scenes on locaction and with real sets. So no more volcanic planets or Jar Jar. Nice change, I guess, but not very significant. The action scenes are where the difference between CGI and practical effects stands out the most. If the action scenes are all a bunch of incomprehensible, computerized, hyperedited crap blowing up loudly in your face then they won't be an improvement over the prequels.
October 20th, 2015 at 10:25 AM ^
Well, what the hell do you expect? LOL
Those kinds of aircrafts don't exist, nor can they build some that actually fly. Of course they're CGI.
October 20th, 2015 at 10:45 AM ^
They didn't use CGI in the original movies. They built models to scale and then used some excellent camera work and pyrotechnics to make it look awesome. That's why the Death Sar battle scene in the original movie still holds up as one of the greatest action scenes ever filmed while the CGI light shows of the prequels were completely forgettable. Using practical effects takes a lot of hard work and the action scenes are where it is most important. It also requires a ton of competence on the part of the crew understanding stuff like lighting to make it look realistic. CGI is, more than anything, a lazy way out. It doesn't even save money, as evidenced by the bloated budgets of today's movies (which dwarf sci-fi films of yesteryear even when adjusted for inflation).
October 20th, 2015 at 12:09 PM ^
Yeah - and look how bad the space battle fights look compared to today. It's blatantly obvious that those are models in episode four and they look terribly fake. I agree that using practical effects is great (most of the time and when done well, like JJ did in this movie), but they have to use CGI to make these giant battles, especially when there are aircrafts (ones that don't exist in real life) involved.
October 20th, 2015 at 12:27 PM ^
The prequel action sequences weren't bad because of CGI, they were bad because of *bad* CGI, and more importantly, bad directing. When Lucas has cutting edge CGI like he did, he gets distracted from the filmmaking aspects and focuses on the "look at what I can do" part.
I think film makers have finally caught up to the technology and learned how to do CGI transparently and most importantly realize less is more.

His Star Trek movies are fantastic.
