I think the MSU column was something I just read on RCMB.

I'm amazed you can read that crap. I can never make through a post without closing the page.

I noted you described the advice you would provide to staff at the Daily, and I wanted to offer the following back to you in the spirit of cooperation:
These are quotes pulled from your article:
"MSU hasn’t just beat U-M in their matchups since Dantonio took over..."
"In the Spartans six wins..."
"U-M fans will point to the Wolverines 68-34-5 all-time series lead"
"“Really doesn’t take much to have a chip on our shoulder,” MSU senior quarterback Connor Cook said When did he say this? . “We’re going to go into each and every game with the underdog mentality..."
"It may not be the Wolverines fault that their hype train has left the Spartans feeling disrespected, but they will suffer the consequences...."
Overall, nicely written, and decently argued piece; however, I am assuming, with respect to the above-referenced points, that you meant the following:
"MSU hasn't just beaten U-M..."
"...Spartans' six wins..."
"...Wolverines' 68-34-5 all time series lead..."
"...Cook said Tuesday."
"...Wolverines' fault..."
Overall, without the typos I'd have given it a B+; if your editors ever need some advice, feel free to give us a call.
Good luck Saturday.

You'd have given that thing a B+? Do you teach at Michigan State? :)

The Michigan Daily column was superb.

I normally think the Daily column is great, but not so much this year. That said, compared to the State writer, it's the best thing I've ever read.
October 14th, 2015 at 10:49 PM ^
The Daily column was fantastic.
October 14th, 2015 at 8:37 PM ^
This year is different. We are good and so are they. However, This year, I think we have the better team. The football gods may shine on them this Saturday, and they may become lucky enough to beat us... But unless a miracle happens, we will win this one.

Exactly. They hate us and play with fiery/passion/hatred/emotions whatever EVERYTIME they play us. That is a constant whether they are a better team than us or not. It's just the norm.

I like how the State column proved the main point of the Daily column.

I'm guessing the State News fella just figured he didn't need to be clever because of how much the rivalry has favored MSU these past 8 years, but it felt flat. Its not like the Daily's column was some Onion level roasting but at least it was creative and amusing.
The "maggot" part reminded me of talking to one of the Daily guys who wrote this column a few years ago and got numerous emails from angry Spartan fans. He said that he had never seen so many misspellings of that particular homophoic slur in his life.
October 14th, 2015 at 8:57 PM ^
You guys are being way to hard on the sparty writer. He very accurately captured the essence of Dantonio in every possible way. And now you're disrespecting him for it. He'll probably go down in the rankings even though he won the column.

the "ten men on the punt team" of journalism:
“Really doesn’t take much to have a chip on our shoulder,” MSU senior quarterback Connor Cook said When did he say this? . “We’re going to go into each and every game with the underdog mentality, that we’re going on out there and prove to everyone why we deserve the respect that we deserve.”
October 14th, 2015 at 11:49 PM ^
I just don't get it... why are Spartans bitching about not being respected? By whom, the media? Michigan has nothing to do with that- so why is there a chip on players' shoulders? Additionally, what has MSU done this year that they deserve respect?
Most importantly, why can't MSU just win because they are the better team...why do they have to be "more motivated"? I just don't get it. If anyone has a chip... it's Michigan... who owes MSU a grade-A beatdown (in the football sense.)

Bold move, guaranteeing a State News victory on Friday. Last the Daily lost I think I was still in high school.
October 14th, 2015 at 9:24 PM ^
Wait, so that's what his last sentence (paragraph?) meant? I inferred, due to his awful writing, that a MSU victory on Saturday was contingent on their winning of a touch football game on Friday.
His writing is bad and he should feel bad.

I don't know what will happen on Saturday, but I do know that was a journalistic ass kicking. The Daily article was creative and very funny.
The State News article was tired and hackneyed.
Why do State fans intentionally perpetuate the inferiority-complex stereotype that they claim to hate?

Yeah, basically the RCMB as a newspaper.

I will never accept that Nebraska deserved a share of the MNC. They needed an illegally kicked ball to force overtime against a mediocre Missouri. That was a straight up lovely parting gift from the coaches poll to Tom Osborne.

Michigan State has been more good
Michigan has been bad
Michigan State plays angry and that's why they are much more good than Michigan
Michigan scored much less points than Michigan State. Dantonio says disrespect fuel that fire.
Michigan State win.

omg I literally lol'ed and I never lol at comments. Dont forget this paragraph: "Stuff Michigan did before also not good."

For Saturday's beat down of little brother. Where the Michigan article was very thoughtful and well written. MSU came over whining and in the past. Already they are coming up with ways to cry about the defeat we will be handing them?
October 15th, 2015 at 10:13 AM ^
"Their fans have bragged about how they are “back” and how “order has been restored”. However, this is the new order— a world where the Wolverines have to beat MSU to prove they are relevant."
I don't think I can recall a time where this game was a "measuring stick" game like it is today.

The Michigan Daily's column is spot on. True Story: in 2011, I was called a "gay (m)aggot" by a group of Spartans on my way to the stadium simply for wearing a Michigan shirt. Inside the stadium people were cheering and actually verbalizing approval for admittedly dirty attacks on Denard. One man literally said “injure that @%% #&!@” after one of the many cheap shots on Denard. I was seated next to an old man who said he was a professor at MSU who apologized to me for all of the 15 yard penalties that the Spartans got that day.
We are talking about a fan base that idolizes the ancient Spartans. The Spartans were anti-intellectual Neanderthals that had a "society" with more slaves than citizens. A rite of passage to become a Spartan man was to sneak out at night and kill a slave. What is the difference between having a Confederate Flag on your car or a Spartan Flag on your car? Both were slave owning and backwards.
