MnB: Michigan is the Stealer of Spartan Dreams

Submitted by Eye of the Tiger on

Good read. Quote:

To the southeast of East Lansing stands Ann Arbor, where national-title aspirations were experienced only by the delusional. Yes, the savior of Michigan football, Jim Harbaugh, had returned home, but he wasn't going to convert Michigan into contenders overnight. This was a Michigan football program that went 6-12 in its final 18 games under Brady Hoke and looked quite miserable while doing it. The 2015 season wouldn't be a disaster as the Wolverines returned the components for a strong defense, but offensively? It was going to take time. Michigan had questions at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and offensive line. Harbaugh could not solve all of these problems in just one offseason. He would need no fewer than two or three years to elevate Michigan back to the top.

That's what we told ourselves at least.

But something funny has happened in the last six weeks...

...and if we do win, TWIS is going to great next week. :P

On the other hand, a loss for the Spartans would spoil their dream season. It'd be their first defeat of 2015, but, because they essentially would trail Michigan by two games in the Big Ten standings, and it's difficult to see how they would make up that ground in five games given Michigan's remaining schedule, their title hopes likely would be kaput.

The faces at work on Monday - the faces of those who assert loyalty to Michigan State - will be glorious on Monday if we in fact do this. Indeed, they will be glorious for the remaining month and a half of the season. Let it be so, Michigan, if you would be so kind.

Living out of state, I certainly have not missed Sparty fans' smug faces on the Mondays following our too-numerous to recount defeats at Sparty's hands over the last few years.  On the other hand, I may have to take the day off and head back home to Southeast Michigan this coming Monday, to revel is their sweet, sweet tears.

Agreed. This game means much more to us who live in the state - its one thing to manufacture hate for these losses of 6/7 from afar.  It is much different to live with it 365 days a year.

With this defense we have the 1 elite unit on the field. At home. Must win.

So we can hear all the Sparty nation cry and whine that they were injured. So that is why Michigan won. When in all reality we know that Michigan is the better team.
