Ohio State fans are terrified.

Submitted by TheTeam16 on

I am currently sitting and enjoying some wings at a bar in extreme proximity to the shoe/OSU campus. The fear is palpable. The decent amount of buckeye fans here are not speaking of their win today, nor how their offense looked better with their back up in. No, tonight the talk about town and in this bar at this moment is directed towards THE MICHIGAN WOLVERINES.

Just moments ago, a large and rather drunk man yelled at everyone to shut up and watch the highlights of our win today when they came on the TV at halftime of one of the games tonight. He then proceeded to scream (with tears in his eyes) at every other OSU fan in the bar...

"This is what you dumb asses wanted, this is what all of you idiots wanted. You wanted a scum team that was competitive. You wanted them to get Jim Harbaugh to make the series relevant again. Well congratulations, your fantasy has become reality. When they kick our ass up and down the field in Ann Arbor this year, just remember what the hell it was you wished for."

The silence after his diatribe was music to my ears, as these helpless fans watched in anguish the fate of Northwestern.

It has finally hit a good majority of the swine, Michigan is no longer in the under coached undermanned team of recent memory. This team is for real and this coaching staff is the best in America.

It is indeed a beautiful picture, my fellow Wolverines.

So far this year, I have read on MGo several feelingsball views on how this team might be viewed:

Initially, was that nobody could be happy or confident or say anything remotely swaggerish about this team because they "hadn't beaten anybody" (see: cupcake portion of schedul)

Then after they beat BYU the narrative switched to (BYU was overrated and their main threat at QB injured)

Most recently, even after two shutouts the narrative related to those opponents being weak.

Now, after dominating the #13 team in the nation in all phases you can't talk anything to our rivals because they haven't yet beaten these rivals. This despite the rivals looking like crap for much of the year.

Sometimes I think people have been so beaten down by the last 7 years...

IMO. It's about bragging that OSU and State are now terrified of us because we've been impressive for four games in one year. They are not. They might be soon, but they aren't now. It's also about being over the top with trash talk for a team that, while it is surpassing our expectations, (the three shutouts are definitely an accomplishment) hasn't yet accomplished much in the way of victories. I'm very happy with how we looked, but I guess I just feel we should be more humble, especially given our recent record. Maybe I'm in the minority.

No thanks. I'm gonna beat my chest now. I've been talking shit to buckeye fans for nearly 50 years; most of them good. When we win I boast. When we lose I lose with the team. We've done plenty regarding championships and against our rivals over the years.

I'm going to beat my chest because Michigan has a really good football team. For the first time in almost a decade we have a REALLY good team. If we lose a game to MSU, OSU or even Minnesotta, it wont be because we where unprepared and undercoached. I'm enjoying every minute of this season and will not let anyone sway my full on cannonball into legit kool-aid.

We just not only beat a top 13 team, we dominated in all ways football. A team that truly earned their top 13 ranking all year. Northwestern wasn't a team that got good preseason ranking and beat a bunch of nobodies. They held Stanford to 6 points, a stanford team that has scored 31, 41, 42 and 55 in each game since and they did that on teams like USCandRR's Arizona wildcats.. This is a crazy year in college football where just about anyone can beat anyone else. Unlike other years like this, Michigan has a team that's capable of handing out the beatings. Please play debbie downer elsewhere because we're all pumped

The OP didn't say anything about chest beating. He was merely drinking in the first of what I hope to be a river of buckeye tears this year. He's talking about hope. Something that has been sorely lacking around these parts for some time now. I agree we haven't done enough to warrant trash talking but things are tracking beautifully and buckeye tears are the sweet results of that.

it's like Batman v. The Joker. We need them as much as they need us. Neither of us will go away, even if one may occasionally visit football purgatory for a few (long) years. It absolutely is the greatest rivalry in sports. Get past sparty next week and no trap game slipups after that (same goes for them) and 11/28 will be off the charts.

Nice to have fandom fun again!

Tonight my diehard MSU fan admitted to me that he is scared of UofM, and "they are back". he has been talking smack ever since we hired RR, and was chirping up until 3 days ago. today he snapped. I haven't seen him this down since MSU had John L Smith.

I got some Sparties in my life like that and I mostly think them delusional idiots about their place in the broader football world.

That is, they had a nice 7 year run with a down Michigan program. Fore a few years now, they have all have been driivng around the state, wearing their green/white, talking crap for years. Their retirees, generations beaten down by Bo/Mo/Lloyd seem overjoyed they can once again put an S magnet on their car, get a license place, buy a hat and wear it around.

They're hilarious if you get up north or to the UP and run into them. Hilarious because every one of them....young, old, male female, seemingly smart about football to casual fan all dismissed Harbaugh and his staff of (largely) NFL experienced guys. Now, they'll get to find out what a Michigan team's talent can do when professionally coached.

I just sat there in my No. 16 jersey and smiled ear to ear while listening. No smack talk was uttered back to them, it wasn't necessary.

Just wanted to provide some insight into the climate south of the border.

Uh, they still have more talent than we do and several games to round into shape.  Not to mention uh, like, the last decade.  Anyone gloating about the upcoming OSU game before we actually win it will get auto-negged.

Who is gloating about anything? I haven't seen that.

That said, it's nice to enter games where I feel confident that our defense has the capacity to blow shit up.

The apologism, the lack of swagger...this isn't the Michigan I grew up on. Schembechler was completely confident about his team and didn't take any crap from anyone. Harbaugh seems the same, thankfully and finally.

If you want me to talk only if we beat them 9 out of 10 years, what is the fun in that. I will be ten years older. I am supposed to say 10 years from now that "You remember you sucked ass against Indiana and Maryland" and we brought in Harbaugh to kick your ass. I will start being happy now, win or lose. We are in good hands.

Bo got the defense playing great and it played great against the most talented and number 1 team in the country for the upset! We'll take it one game at a time but when you have a dominate defense you have a chance to beat the number 1 team!

I'm sure that OSU will be running like a well-oiled machine by the time they show up in Ann Arbor, because they always seem to look shaky early in the season and tidy up when they need to.  However, I'm not sure it'll be enough for them this year.

But like others have said, let's win first, before talking trash.

I could honestly care less about a drunken Buckeye fan, and I also agree that there's no point in revelling in any of this until we actually beat MSU and OSU.

Assuming the story is true, I would also like to mention that the particular fan cares way too much about a bunch of 18-21 year old kids at a school up north.  I love college football, but I don't think I broke down in tears the last two times OSU won the nationship championship.
