Any word on Magee possibly going to South Florida?

Submitted by jaba on

Just watching ESPN about Leavitt being fired, they mentioned Magee as a possible candidate for the job. Any rumblings up there?

I doubt there have any rumblings regarding Calvin Magee going to USF. For some reason I doubt he'd leave, but I really don't have much reason for that sentiment.

Plus throw into the mix that Murphy might possibly go to Maryland...will that lead to Grimes following his friend there? Guess we'll have to wait and see. Interesting set of events developing.

But their spreads are almost incompatible. Outside of a QB in the gun and lots of WRs, there are few similarities b/w RR's spread and ML's.

The joke was funny b/c it's ridiculous to think ML would be OC at UM; just as ridiculous as LT as our LB coach.

If this did happen does everyone think Rodriguez would just call the plays? He has plenty of o-coord experience at Tulane and Clemson and it seems more and more head coaches are calling the plays these days.

This is what I just saw via ESPN:

Michigan offensive coordinator Calvin Magee could be in mix for head-coaching job at South Florida, where he was an assistant from 1996-2000

All we have so far is a couple of throw-in statements by ESPN regarding Calvin Magee's supposed interest in the USF job. I'll start to worry when I actually hear from Magee or a Michigan source that he's considering the possibility.

It's Rampant Speculation Day today! YAY!

Magee to USF? Dick Ash qualifying? NCAA investigation?

Is anybody going to live through this offseason? The Angst-o-meter is registering way into the red.

Seriously? When has Richard Ash ever used the nickname Dick?

Also, what is wrong with speculating about the possibility that USF takes Magee to be their head coach? It is a fair question whether they would want him, especially since ESPN has reported that he is one of the people the USF is considering (yes, I know that's not confirmed). Speculation is one of the main points of a sports blog, whether it be speculating over whether Michigan will go to a bowl next season or whether we'll lose our offensive coordinator who is reportedly being considered to for a BCS head coaching position.

A lot of coordinators do want to be a HC. Which probably means that there are a host of candidates besides just Magee. Which probably means that it's not really up to Calvin Magee even if he wants the job, it's probably up to USF who they want to hire.

Probably.

Although given our luck, they've already hired Magee, Frey, Smith, forced us to rehire Hopson, shredded Devin Gardner's transcripts so he'll never get past UM admissions even in the fall, reforged the One Ring of Sauron and gave it Tressel, and stepped on RR's dog while TPing his house. With that Charmin Ultra stuff that's so water-absorbant that when it rains it doesn't dissolve, so it just sits in the trees for like ever, man.

I actually don't think that this would be that bad if it were to occur, especially if there is indeed the talk about going a little more in the direction of a more balanced play calling scheme as some have talked about. Just some perspective: Before Magee his playcalling was about 55% run; with Magee his playcalling has been about 70% run. I know that there has been discussion about just how much which one or both of them calls the plays, but that's a pretty interesting number. It might just be coincidence timing-wise, but I'm not so sure about that.

I think the Freep would spin it that David Brandon was going to come in and clean house. Calvin Magee saw the handwriting on the wall and took the first opportunity to get outta Dodge!
