Word is that would suck
January 8th, 2010 at 10:49 AM ^
Not much yet.
January 8th, 2010 at 10:49 AM ^
I doubt there have any rumblings regarding Calvin Magee going to USF. For some reason I doubt he'd leave, but I really don't have much reason for that sentiment.
January 8th, 2010 at 11:01 AM ^
You doubt he'd leave to go be HC at South Florida? REALLY?
January 8th, 2010 at 10:50 AM ^
Who is McGee?
January 8th, 2010 at 10:56 AM ^
Timothy McGee is a NCIS investigator on the cbs show but I believe they are referring to our OC Calvin McGee
January 8th, 2010 at 10:58 AM ^
it isn't spelled McGee.
January 8th, 2010 at 11:05 AM ^
you are correct, it is Magee. My mistake.
January 8th, 2010 at 11:07 AM ^
Touche, I should have realized this
January 8th, 2010 at 11:45 AM ^
I think he really was referring to Timothy McGee.
January 8th, 2010 at 11:18 AM ^
I hate when that happens!
January 8th, 2010 at 12:22 PM ^
you mean elf lord, Mr. GemCity?
January 8th, 2010 at 11:23 AM ^
Maybe Tony McGee is interested in the job?
January 8th, 2010 at 10:53 AM ^
Plus throw into the mix that Murphy might possibly go to Maryland...will that lead to Grimes following his friend there? Guess we'll have to wait and see. Interesting set of events developing.
January 8th, 2010 at 10:56 AM ^
I know mgblog is fast.....but we aren't Denard fast.
January 8th, 2010 at 11:04 AM ^
Highly, highly unlikely.
January 8th, 2010 at 11:11 AM ^
If he is given the chance why would he stay at U of M when he could become a Head Coach?
January 8th, 2010 at 11:09 AM ^
Well if that does happen I guess we can just hire Mike Leach as OC and bring in Lawrence Taylor to coach the LB's and dominate the world.
January 8th, 2010 at 12:59 PM ^
Leach would be one hell of a pickup for this, and he might just accept it.
I wonder if the UM brass would allow it.
January 8th, 2010 at 1:05 PM ^
But their spreads are almost incompatible. Outside of a QB in the gun and lots of WRs, there are few similarities b/w RR's spread and ML's.
The joke was funny b/c it's ridiculous to think ML would be OC at UM; just as ridiculous as LT as our LB coach.
January 8th, 2010 at 11:11 AM ^
If this did happen does everyone think Rodriguez would just call the plays? He has plenty of o-coord experience at Tulane and Clemson and it seems more and more head coaches are calling the plays these days.
January 8th, 2010 at 12:03 PM ^
From my understanding, Rodriguez calls the plays. Magee is up in the booth who tells RR what adjustments to make upon what he is seeing the defense doing.
January 8th, 2010 at 11:22 AM ^
Actully my sources just confrimed Magee will take the head coaching position at USF. He will be taking John Tenuta as his DC. wow.
January 8th, 2010 at 12:34 PM ^
Now this is funny. I prefer jokes that reach back in history and make fun of a Buckeye
January 8th, 2010 at 11:27 AM ^
This is what I just saw via ESPN:
Michigan offensive coordinator Calvin Magee could be in mix for head-coaching job at South Florida, where he was an assistant from 1996-2000
January 8th, 2010 at 12:24 PM ^
who are his recruits?
January 8th, 2010 at 12:49 PM ^
Just like Rudy T and Cazzie Russell were "in the mix" when Amaker got the ax.
January 8th, 2010 at 11:47 AM ^
All we have so far is a couple of throw-in statements by ESPN regarding Calvin Magee's supposed interest in the USF job. I'll start to worry when I actually hear from Magee or a Michigan source that he's considering the possibility.
January 8th, 2010 at 11:53 AM ^
It's Rampant Speculation Day today! YAY!
Magee to USF? Dick Ash qualifying? NCAA investigation?
Is anybody going to live through this offseason? The Angst-o-meter is registering way into the red.
January 8th, 2010 at 12:10 PM ^
Seriously? When has Richard Ash ever used the nickname Dick?
Also, what is wrong with speculating about the possibility that USF takes Magee to be their head coach? It is a fair question whether they would want him, especially since ESPN has reported that he is one of the people the USF is considering (yes, I know that's not confirmed). Speculation is one of the main points of a sports blog, whether it be speculating over whether Michigan will go to a bowl next season or whether we'll lose our offensive coordinator who is reportedly being considered to for a BCS head coaching position.
January 8th, 2010 at 12:17 PM ^
I dunno if it's a real nickname, but it's funny because dick is another word for penis.
January 8th, 2010 at 12:23 PM ^
It is?
January 8th, 2010 at 1:46 PM ^
Oh no. All these years I thought I just looked like someone else named Dick.
January 8th, 2010 at 12:10 PM ^
Any longtime coordinator wants a shot to be a HC. See ya later Magee.
January 8th, 2010 at 12:28 PM ^
A lot of coordinators do want to be a HC. Which probably means that there are a host of candidates besides just Magee. Which probably means that it's not really up to Calvin Magee even if he wants the job, it's probably up to USF who they want to hire.
Probably.
Although given our luck, they've already hired Magee, Frey, Smith, forced us to rehire Hopson, shredded Devin Gardner's transcripts so he'll never get past UM admissions even in the fall, reforged the One Ring of Sauron and gave it Tressel, and stepped on RR's dog while TPing his house. With that Charmin Ultra stuff that's so water-absorbant that when it rains it doesn't dissolve, so it just sits in the trees for like ever, man.
January 8th, 2010 at 12:22 PM ^
I actually don't think that this would be that bad if it were to occur, especially if there is indeed the talk about going a little more in the direction of a more balanced play calling scheme as some have talked about. Just some perspective: Before Magee his playcalling was about 55% run; with Magee his playcalling has been about 70% run. I know that there has been discussion about just how much which one or both of them calls the plays, but that's a pretty interesting number. It might just be coincidence timing-wise, but I'm not so sure about that.

Can't wait for that freep newsflash
January 8th, 2010 at 1:03 PM ^
I think the Freep would spin it that David Brandon was going to come in and clean house. Calvin Magee saw the handwriting on the wall and took the first opportunity to get outta Dodge!
