Thank god Michigan is good again
October 6th, 2015 at 6:35 AM ^
I just got into work and when I opened up my browser and went to this blog I said to myself "at least I have Michigan".
The part that hurts the most is after all the years of losing, you get numb to it, but It's when something bad happens to the Lions and everyone in the world is in agreement that they got robbed. The Lions aren't the only team to suffer this stuff, but I feel like it happens to us a lot. I just don't feel good at all. That was our season that was pushed out of the back of the endzone.

The Lions are the Washington Generals of the NFL. Curly Neal will be along to pants Matthew Stafford shortly after Meadowlark Lemon throws a bucket of water - no, wait, it's confetti - in Jim Caldwell's face.

The suspense on that last drive was very intense. Stafford was clutch. The theatre was right. Megatron going in the endzone to win the game. Just sickening.

Let me introduce you to my Avatar Warning NSFW The video tells the story of a Michigan fan picking up in 2011 and proceeding through the 2014 season. Perhaps you can relate.
October 6th, 2015 at 2:11 AM ^
But they'll find a new more amazing way to lose. Probably soon.
October 6th, 2015 at 7:57 AM ^
After last night I am convinced that instead of spending time and money developing players the Lions actually spend time and money developing increasingly heartbreaking ways to lose games.
October 6th, 2015 at 2:21 AM ^
I first remember watching the Lions as a 5 or 6 year old right around the time Barry left, and while I love Detroit and am proud of my heritage and background in the state of Michigan, holy shit I can not stand being a fan of this team. At least 13 dong punches a year from them alone.
October 6th, 2015 at 2:23 AM ^
Statsford has never won anything. Some things are just the way that they are.
Same Ol Lions.

My friend lost the lead against me in fantasy thanks to Russell Wilson's fumbles, probably would have gotten it back with an overtime or a drive down 4. Thanks Lions!

One of these guys gets paid a ton of money and should know the rules…
The other plays for the Seahawks. #cheathawks

You think you've seen the most heartbreaking and inexplicable losses possible as a lions fan, and they continue to just add to that list.
I've gotten to the point where I've become more of a cynic than a fan, it won't be long before I stop paying attention entirely.

I stopped awhile ago.
I don't even know what the OP is talking scout.
It's actually kind of a fun game reading the comments and trying to piece together what happened.
Best I can tell: close game, Lions had a chance to win. That would-be touchdown in the GIF would have won it, but it was ruled a fumble, Lions lose. How close am I?

The part where Seahawks player intentionally knocks it out the back of the Endzone, which is a penalty that would have given the Lions the ball on the 1 with 1st and goal. But naturally the ref didn't think that was flag-worthy. So really, this loss has it all, right on down to being jobbed by the refs and an obscure rule.
October 6th, 2015 at 2:48 AM ^
If Michigan lost a game like this I would be devestated.
But i've been a Lions fan for too long so I just shake my head.
October 6th, 2015 at 3:44 AM ^
This is exactly how I feel. Watching, said "that is the most Lions thing ever", and just turned off the game. If it'd been Michigan, there would've been a lot more feels.

My post game Facebook post:
Lions just Lioned in the most Lionesque way, and then the NFL boned them again, just to rub salt in the open wound.

Woke up this morning in Armenia to see the final score and read what happened between the fumble and missed batted ball call. All I could do was
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
October 6th, 2015 at 4:24 AM ^
that was some major bullshit, the play is not reviewable?
Why in fucking hell is that type of play not reviewable? How moronic is that? Fuck you NFL and the fucking refs who don't even know what their job is.
It was a turn over, how about looking at it again, it's so manipulated how the NFL conducts things, I have been increasingly getting turned off by the NFL and might stop following it like I have been all my life.
Hell, I've already started to be less interested and the start of this season is just adding to that sentiment.
Thank goodness for Michigan football esecially now that we look like a competent program again.
October 6th, 2015 at 4:31 AM ^
while agree that the NFL has fucked up a lot of things and manipulates things, but the NCAA is the most manipulative sport around. the NFL has too many rules and has done some stupid things against some franchises over the years, but its far more balanced as a league compared to especially college football.

Does it really matter? They dos the lions a favor and got them a better draft pick. It isn't like the lions are going to the playoffs.

There were definately lots of Lion's with smiles during post game handshakes. If they can so easily stomach such a bitter defeat, it certainly told me I could do the same with much less skin in the game.
It is so much nicer to have less and less emotional investment in this team as I get older.

but do you really have to roam the Lions game threads being a dick troll? Knock it off
October 6th, 2015 at 9:59 AM ^
people who barge into threads pertaining to certain teams bragging about their team. It's weird.

Huh okay so instead of 4-12 they will be 3-13 I guess.

"Oooo, we boned you again Detroit? That's too bad, isn't it. You know what else sucks about it? That play isn't reviewable for no apparent reason, just because." -the nfl
October 6th, 2015 at 6:28 AM ^
Seriously, I have no idea why a whole laundry list of things aren't reviewable, or cannot be challenged, especially when the whole world watching knows they got it wrong..

Because instead of taking 10 minutes out of advertising out of a 210 minute broadcast that is flooded with advertising won't ever happen. $$$$ > Getting things right

YES
- Joey Harrington!
- Charles Rogers!
- Roy Williams!
- Kevin Jones!
- Mike Williams!
- Ernie Sims!
- Megatron (a good one obviously)
- Gosder Cherilus!
I no longer get excited about draft picks because the Lions have ruined drafting. To be fair this list was the Millen era. Look at how bad those picks are, besides Calvin Johnson. Since 2008 we've had some good picks, Fairley, Suh, Ansah, Ebron. Only 2 are still on our team. I just don't trust the first round anymore and I'm very cynical about it. Now get me excited about a 5th or 6th round pick? That's a lot easier, at least we didn't pay a lot for a possible disappointment. Just don't give me the first overall pick.
October 6th, 2015 at 9:19 AM ^
The sad thing is Lions 1st round picks (often being top 10) are at least serviceable for a while. Some exceptions like LeShoure and Williams etc. But where they are truly Lions is the 2nd round where countless teams find stars. Go look up the past decade of 2nd rounders it is amazing.
Like many I grew up an amazing fan for a few decades (started in Hipple, Danielson era) and lived thru decades of "well at least I still have Michigan on Saturdays." But somewhere around yr 5 of millen I turned off my emotions to the team. They had just beaten me to a pulp. I momentarily lapsed for half a season when they got Suh because I thought he was going to be reggie white but I saw even he would be Lionized soon enough.
I used to be the guy who would clear 1-4PM out every Sunday with no one allowed to bother me for ages. But the past 10 years or so I have no problem sauntering in to start watcing at 3 PM and laughing at how they will lose. Every lead I mock as "gone soon enough". Every road team over .500 I remind that Matt Stafford has 1 win in is career over a >.500 team. (Up 21-3 vs San Diego in game 1? "LOL they are doomed - the ony question is how they lose.") It is amusement now more than anything. I do realize that so many still love them and are attached with the heart and I feel bad for those people since the Lions never change their fate. Even Arizona changed its fate. So now its just Cle and Det.
That said I miss Art regner on the old WDFN post game show in the Millen era - best entertainment of my life!

Cleveland doesn't really count because their original team is in Baltimore. They had their team taken away and that team went on to win the Super Bowl. I honestly don't understand how Cleveland fans still support the NFL. If my team was moved, there's no way I would ever watch that league again.
October 6th, 2015 at 10:33 AM ^
Oh how great it would have been to hear one of his signature rants, after this one. Lions cornbread lol
October 6th, 2015 at 6:45 AM ^
I get it if there is some debate about who might recover it and I get that he did something he wasn't supposed to, but it would have been Seahawks ball regardless, so I don't know why people somehow think that the Lions deserve the ball where they lost it in the first place.
October 6th, 2015 at 7:03 AM ^
Based on how I understood the rule, the Lions would've still had possession had the penalty been called. The ball goes to the team who had last possession. Since no Seahawks player had possession the penalty would've moved the ball to the 1 yard line or something, and the Lions would've kept the ball. I was really tired when I read about the rule, so forgive me if I butchered it all.
October 6th, 2015 at 7:07 AM ^
You're right, the key word there is DESERVE. It's a silly rule and given the circumstances, the Lions did not DESERVE the ball in that situation, regardless of the rule.
October 6th, 2015 at 7:13 AM ^
Whoosh! My reading skills in the moring are very subpar. My bad, yes now your post makes more sense.
October 6th, 2015 at 7:44 AM ^
Yes but that doesn't matter. Deserve is not factored in when applying he NFL rules.
October 6th, 2015 at 8:33 AM ^
True. The DESERVE argument is invalid. If it were, then Jacksonville would be undefeated because Denard.
