Michigan-Maryland to be played at Noon?

My U of M source says Big Ten has plans to move Maryland game to noon Saturday (not 8pm) and will make final decision by tomorrow evening.

I called my hotel! I'm leaving tomorrow and they said just expecting on and off rain.
September 30th, 2015 at 9:43 PM ^
With all due respect to your hotel, the National Weather Service is very unsure at this moment as the models are all over the place. Most models have the storm hitting the coast but the Euro model that forecasters really like have it going away from the coast.
I'm not sure I can take another game at noon...three in a row is enough.

But I play one on TV
September 30th, 2015 at 11:49 PM ^
But did you stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night?

Do you even have a weather app bro?

What people don't understand is that the DC area is going to see rain for the next three days. To be honest, I don't know when we expect to stop getting the rain from the front moving in from the west and start getting rain from the hurricane.
The latest expectations is that J will be off the South Carolina coast around game time. I don't know if that's close enough to get rain, but it's not close enough to be dangerous.
September 30th, 2015 at 11:54 PM ^
I love that you and the storm are so tight now that you just call him "J."
October 1st, 2015 at 11:53 AM ^
yeah football has never played in rain before

Would seem to be an advantage to Michigan with noon atmosphere being duller than night game atmosphere. I thought that they might move it to friday night.
September 30th, 2015 at 9:24 PM ^
that was forecast. As an aside, people keep talking about night games like the home team has an extra large advantage. I've never seen any evidence that's true. Has anyone else? I'd think if it was, there would be a lot more night games.
September 30th, 2015 at 9:43 PM ^
LSU may well be somewhat of an outlier, but I mean since 1960 they are 231-61-4 at night in Tiger Stadium and 29-26-3 earlier in the day. Since 2000, they are 65-6 at night and 27-8 during the afternoon.
Sometimes the atmosphere doesn't matter because the road team is better, more prepared, or what have you. But night crowds are louder and more of a factor in tight games. See: UTL.
Edit: This may not matter for a seemingly atrocious Maryland team. But in general, arguing against night crowds being more formidable seems folly.

Since 2000, LSU's record is 65-6 in night games.
September 30th, 2015 at 10:09 PM ^
I think your sample size of 71 games is a bit too large to judge this topic. I've been to 4 LSU night games the last few years:
2011 they killed Auburn 45-10 the year before they puchased the rights to Cam Newton.
2012 they lost a heartbreaker to Alabama 21-17 in the big #1 vs. #2 battle.
2013 they beat Florida 17-6.
2014 lost to Missississississippi State 34-29.
That's 2 wins and 2 losses. So I don't really see much of an advantage playing at night. It's all just really about the numbers.

Wait, what? Is this really complex sarcasm?

Were you by any chance a African & Afro-American Studies major at UNC?
October 1st, 2015 at 1:38 PM ^
Doesn't necessarily apply to LSU and Arizona St, but a lot of teams (like Michigan) schedule tougher games at night too, so you'd think on average, the night games would be worse records than day games. Assuming that is true, having even an equal %age at night would indicate some advantage.
October 1st, 2015 at 5:33 AM ^
We have won every UTL and we have sucked.
October 1st, 2015 at 11:31 AM ^
we won 38-35 at Minnesota in the only Friday night Michigan game in my lifetime, 10/10/2003.
October 1st, 2015 at 9:05 AM ^
I think LSU actually has a better afternoon game home record over that span. Turns out that when you're good, you're tough to beat at home, no matter when you play.
September 30th, 2015 at 9:57 PM ^
Competitive advantage isn't the only factor that comes into play. Night games pose logistical issues that day games don't. A lot of fans have to either find a hotel or drive well into the night. Personally, while the atmosphere is fun, I wouldn't want us to have more than one a year.
In the case of LSU, I believe the reason they play a lot of games at night is to escape the daytime heat. Arizona does likewise.

If students struggle to show up for noon games at Michigan than I can't imagine what it's like at Maryland.
October 1st, 2015 at 8:40 AM ^
at night, so I disagree.
September 30th, 2015 at 11:44 PM ^
It's going to be half Michigan fans anyway so I don't think that makes a difference.
October 1st, 2015 at 11:55 AM ^
why an advantage? From what i've heard, it would've been mostly Michigan fans there. Now, who knows, as travel plans will be impacted by an 8hr kickoff change and return flights by the impending hurricane

Me to noon game haters if it's moved to noon-

there is nothing I like more than having to wake up early in a Saturday to honor the arbitrary whims of a dead football coach
September 30th, 2015 at 9:37 PM ^
you probably didn't mean that in the way I took it but go fuck yourself anyway
September 30th, 2015 at 9:39 PM ^
games and Yes you took it the way he meant it. So you are NOT out of line. +1 to you, good sir.
September 30th, 2015 at 11:41 PM ^
+1 Insightful
September 30th, 2015 at 9:40 PM ^
Could that have been meant any other way?
September 30th, 2015 at 9:53 PM ^
Is the way you took it "Bo Schembechler retired from coaching when I was 4 years old and I'm not entirely sure why his opinions on the relative merits of noon games should impact the way the program handles itself 9 years after his death"? Because if so that is exactly how I meant it... I can see liking noon games because they work better for your schedule or something, but BO LIKED THEM is just awful rationale for doing anything in 2015.
And you guys can fuck right off, I have a god damn Bo quote as my signature and have for the past 6 years on this board. I obviously didn't mean to disrespect the man, but he'd probably be the first to tell you that this reasoning is moronic, he didn't take his scheduling prefence cues from what Fritz Crisler wanted.
September 30th, 2015 at 9:56 PM ^
Damn. You loyal bruh.
September 30th, 2015 at 9:57 PM ^
I like noon games because I don't have to wait all day for the game.
Bo didn't like noon games. He liked 1pm games. Since the TV networks started deciding things after he retired, that's the closest we have to noon games.
Noon is better for me and it's close to what we once had.

I like noon games because I have to work at 4pm. Shower at halftime. Head to work after the game.
September 30th, 2015 at 9:59 PM ^
I believe the judges gave that round to Brodie
October 1st, 2015 at 6:59 AM ^
I'm glad you clarified but I don't think any reasonable person would have deduced THAT from your original comment. Maybe you should have just said that.
October 1st, 2015 at 8:16 AM ^
I really have no idea what you thought I meant... it appears to me that people think "dead" is an insult instead of, like, a fact.
September 30th, 2015 at 9:40 PM ^
Fuck off on out of here with that comment.
September 30th, 2015 at 10:17 PM ^
I don't care what your point was or whether you intended disrespect, but I will compulsively downvote anyone who uses the phrase "dead football coach" to refer to Bo.
September 30th, 2015 at 11:00 PM ^
Old Auburn joke:
Q: What to Alabama fans and maggots have in common?
A: They can both live off a dead bear for decades.
