You're probably going to have to drive. This is the best the Alumni Association can do, it seems:
Oregon

The alumni club in Eugene has been defunct for a while now. Head to Portland. Or come to Eugene and cure my Michigan loneliness :(

Yelp checks out. Hope they have a free breakfast buffet.
September 26th, 2015 at 1:16 AM ^
Thanks. Will check out. Kinda feel bad for the entertainers that the game is so early.

I was just there a couple months ago. Cool town loaded with microbreweries, but I don't recall a designated M bar. In my experience though, if you wear Michigan gear you're bound to find other alums in the same predicament no matter where you are.

If in Portland, the Thirsty Lion in the downtown area is the place to be. I found myself there on a number of occasions, while visiting the area, and met some really great UM folk there. Each time, a raucous crowd all in maize and blue singing the Victors every chance they got. It was great.

I tried to start the watching group in Portland, but never got much leverage. Portland (where I live now) on the other hand has an awesome group. Thirsty Lion FTW.

What about Portland?

I meant Eugene. I tried to start a group in Eugene.

Also, what are your thoughts on the show Portlandia? Personally, I love it, but I always wonder what people in Portland think about it. Fred Armisen is amazing.
September 26th, 2015 at 2:19 AM ^
We love Portlandia! I didn't grow up here, but my wife did and she loves it too.
I always wonder what people who don't live here think of the show because some of the skits are right on point in terms of what it's like here. Although it seems to be really popular nation wide.

As Michigan fans we should all like Portland, the 1990s live on there. Portland is also where 30 year olds go to retire.
September 26th, 2015 at 10:39 AM ^
Damn I wish I could retire in a couple years! Unfortunately will not be the case for me despite living in PDX.

On a side note, we bought a house in January, and after closing found out that it appears in multiple episodes of Portlandia. It's our claim to fame.

Many episodes have been filmed in my neighborhood as well.
September 26th, 2015 at 10:38 AM ^
I live in Portland. The show has it's moments, but I usually just watch it to see what parts of my neighborhood show up in it.

I don't think there is an official Michigan bar, but pick one of the breweries that opens early and check it out. Bound to be some Michigan fans around. Won't be like the Thirsty Lion though. We pack that place for most games. I was there last week and there had to be 50+ people.

Just for fun, here are the new Portland alumni chapter tshirts!
September 26th, 2015 at 2:08 AM ^
I always enjoy Oregon. Washington's little brother.
September 26th, 2015 at 2:23 AM ^
I'm not sure what you mean by little brother, but I love the entire Pac NW. Oregon takes the cake for me though.

I'm having fun. Oregon is awesome.

Ha, I kinda figured. Although I wish the huskies would go back to making the ducks their little brother. Tired of dealing with all these bandwagon ducks fans!

Both are great, but I prefer the people in Oregon much more.

I'm glad this picture is posted on MGo, rather than RCMB. Because all kinds of unsavory things would be uttered. Cute girl BTW.
September 26th, 2015 at 3:38 AM ^
That was the picture the alumni association sent out in their email about the tshirts. Yes, I'm very happy that MGoBlog =\= RCMB! Otherwise I'd feel bad for posting it.

Folks in OR (and elsewhere) are asking about online sales. Shirts are currently only sold at game gatherings in Portland. Any suggestions on a site people could custom order them from one at a time? Especially if you also could order long sleeve variations, etc. Catch is profits after that site's still need to go to Portland's scholarship fund. Thx.
September 26th, 2015 at 10:36 AM ^
Thanks RedShirt! I was going to chime in as well but you covered it. Hope it's ok I posted the picture. It's an awesome shirt so I wanted to show it off. We got ours last week at the thirsty lion. Hopefully MGoBlog can help identify a way to sell them online.

Where can I buy this?

My House is the best Michigan bar in Bend!!!
September 26th, 2015 at 8:09 AM ^
There are so many cool local microbrews that have TV's, don't worry about being other M fans, would love to be where you are. The Deschutes Brewery has a nice patio with TV's, plus you can watch the winder surfers at the same time.
September 26th, 2015 at 9:42 AM ^
Not an M bar but great beer, food, and atmosphere. I'm sure they'd put the game on if they're open that early.
September 26th, 2015 at 10:00 AM ^
Only problem with Deschutes is their beers are so good (and many of them so big) you wouldn't remember the second half of the game!
