Okay,
my press pass is only for pregame and I have to go down to my seat in the stands with all the other fans as usual when the ball is kicked off.
This is just a one-time test run for this year. This is the only game I'll be doing this at this year as the guy I'm working with isn't ready just yet to hang it up. He films all the games from atop the pressbox and you can see him filming Brandstatter and Dierdorff on Inside Michigan Football.
But I'm going to be up there before the game starts. Not during it. I don't see how wearing a jersey is a bad thing when I'm not even doing the full game. I know this guy, I've been to his house and knows I'm........different.
This doesn't look that bad- (I don't wear sweatbands anymore. This was taken in 2011)

This is exactly what I would have said. If this is an interview or a realistic job preview as the HR types are calling it now, underdressing is inexcusable. If it is a job you want the job, how would you feel if you didn't get it because of your wardrobe selection.

Yup this is how Id go about it at your age as well. You can still wear Michigan gear and look professional. An M polo with khakis and appropriate shoes says Im a fan who is taking this opportunity seriously. The jersey can be worn for the game when your in your seat.

I've actually done this a few times... and I can confirm that its a truly horrendous look. Whatever point such a costume might serve is not worth it. Pick one or the other and commit.
If I wanted to rep the team, but still look professional --> Navy blazer + light blue shirt + M hat + Maize and blue necktie = WIN

I think trying to get him from a jersey to a blazer might be too big of a leap.
It sounds like khakis and a Michigan golf shirt (and a Michigan hat) might be completely acceptable, though.
It's one game, dude. You'll live if you're not repping your Michigan jersey.

You can even throw on a maize & blue tie, tuck it into your shirt (second or third button down) and roll up your sleeves.
It's a little old school look that says - I'm dressed professionally, but I'm here to fucking work, man.

Best advice all thread, imo.
Shoot this guy an email asking what he wears and copy him, seriously.
For the record, I'm a management consultant. I visit clients all the time. I *always* call ahead and check on the dress code. What I've learned is that dressing more conservatively might stick out, but generally in a positive way. Dressing down too much stands out in a negative way.
