UM might be able to get a better LB coach, and Bill Sheridan might be able to get a better job. Ultimately, I think both parties would feel like "meh." UM would be getting an NFL coach, but there isn't really any evidence that he's particularly good. Bill Sheridan would be taking a bit of a demotion, though I don't think NFL teams are lining up to hire him anyways. We'll see.

I could see the interest from him, seeing how he left his family to go coach the Giants and would probably look for a way to come back and coach closer to home. That being said I think he'd take a position with an NFL team closer to Ann Arbor before coming back to UofM. It's definitely a demotion, going from DC to college position coach, especially in rank and in money. He might not be a DC ever again, but he'll be somewhere in the NFL coaching.

I don't think Sheridan will come back. Too big of a step down. Even Marinelli got a position gig with an NFL team after coaching the worst team in the history of the NFL. I think Sheridan can land a position job somewhere in the league. On a side note that has been mentioned in passing a couple of times (sarcastic and not), what about Chris Speilman. IIRC, he wants to get into coaching and he really seems to know what he's talking about when announcing (especially on the D side of the ball). I would think his name and pedigree as a player would help on the recruiting trail as well.

Bill Sheridan is not a good coach. He ran the worst NY Giants D in the last 50 years. He was a career college position coach who I never, not once heard would make a college coordinator position. How he got the Giants job is beyond me. I don't remember anyone saying man he was the up and comer at MSU ND or Michigan. Seriously one year as a pro DC, a great college coach and recruiter does not make. Its not like recruits will say OMG this guy ran the Giants D in the ground, but hey he was a pro DC, I think ill go to Michigan. In case anyone forgot we have a pro DC on our staff, who was like you know actually successful as a DC, he has those things you call super bowl rings. Seriously check the resume. 20 years of college experience and never above LB coach once. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Sheridan

Yeah, but C. Weis used his Super Bowl rings to land a HC job, as well as dazzle the recruits. /Shut off sarcasm meter/ But seriously, dumber things have happened. Who knows why kids are impressed with some of that stuff, but they are.

Sheridan is a terrible DC, and he wasn't that successful as a LB coach for the Giants. We don't want him.

I thought Sheridan was a pretty "meh" assistant when he was here. That he got an NFL job tells me that a lot of this just comes down to knowing the right people.
