Utah/Utah State Open Thread

Submitted by enlightenedbum on

Watching last week's opponent to try to figure out how good they are.

7-0 Utes late first, though USU is driving after a great catch on a deep ball and a roughing the passer penalty.  Spread is a little more effective running the ball than we were, which is concerning me.  Utah's offense has looked pretty good with an easy TD drive and a second really promising drive that was killed by a penalty that the refs forgot to announce (PAC-12 refs!).

Early indications are a little concerning for the offense but encouraging for the defense.

I hope any Non-Conference team that beats UM wins all the rest of their games.

A. So the loss looks more acceptable

B. So we can play them again in the National Championship

Also, I would not like to hear from all those other teams' fans about how Michigan lost to a team that lost to Utah State, so lets go Utes.

You know the CoFoPo Conmittee cares about strength of schedule, right?

If it came down to M being in that 4-5 range like Baylor, tcu, OSU last year, poor strength o schedule could mean M left out and looking in.

If you want to maintain your position go for it, just realize it is, by matter of objective fact, a nonsensical one.

It looks like Utah State has been preparing for the Utes for a few weeks, and have a few wrinkles and trick plays they've used already that they didn't use at all last week.  They were willing to let last week's game be much closer to not give much for the Utes to look at in terms of their offensive plays and sets.

And now a completely uncovered Utah State receiver in the end zone for a TD.

ESPN covers college football like it matters.  I hate the way NFL networks like NBC and Fox cover CFB . . . as a way to kill time until Sunday when the games really matter to them.

NBC is the worst.  Half of a Notre Dame half time is used up pimping the NFL.  You get very little coverage of the other CFB games going on.

why do special teams coaches not drill their guys to not run a return out of the end zone? I understand that the reward is high but the percentages are so low. I really might have to run the numbers on the amount of times they make it back to the 25 or beyond. I'd guess it's less than 30% of the time

The better Andrew Luck does in the NFL the better for our QB recruiting with Harbaugh getting a lot of that credit.

and look here, Peters with another beautiful, calm looking spiral for a TD, number 6 too.
