like this except we're Harbaugh and you're throwing gentler softballs [Fuller]

Alarming news about the US economy: bloggers will be on the radio. We are leading into the weekly coaches's show for the duration of football season. If things go well (ie: we get enough sponsors to at least break even) we'll look at continuing through basketball season.

WHAT MGORADIO
WHERE 1050 WTKA, streaming on WTKA.com
WHEN 5-7 Mondays, right before HARBAUGH
THE LINE Brian mispronounces last names -infinity
TELEVISION 50/50 FS2 shows up just because they need anything resembling content
TICKETS Uh
WEATHER mid 70s, 0% chance of rain, 100% chance of sputtering condemnation

The first one is Monday. For now we're expecting this to be formatted much like the podcast, except people can call in and rant about vaccines causing Michigan's offensive line to get hurled into the backfield by angry Samoans.

This is not 'Nam, this is radio:

RULE NUMBER ONE: only ask one question, we forget the others.
RULE NUMBER TWO: don't say anyone is "just a winner."
RULE NUMBER THREE: make the sporps takes piping hot or don't bring 'em at all.

If you're interesting in sponsoring us, please get in touch with [email protected]; we're floating the show ourselves so it costs dollars.

Awesome!  The podcast has come a loooooong way over the past couple of years, and I'm sure this will be very well-received by WTKA listeners.  Congrats, guys!

but the podcast clearly operated without language barriers when it was a blog-friendly enterprise.

I have to admit I am a huge fan. The Thursday roundtable is must-tune-in programming. And the podcast is always cool no matter what the content or the game outcome or subject being dissected.

Please use the 110th Street theme because Harbaugh will soon be Jonesing for it once this program airs before his, I'm certain.

The bumper music too needs to remain obscure and provocative with Schadenfruede motives.

Otherwise, carry on the same. I have been wondering what happened to the podcast since the season preview, anxiously awaiting it as the finale of last week's preseason preview extravaganza.

Also, I expect this show to take off with general viewership and to attract the kind of sponsors which make it arrestingly appealing.

I do have one personal request: A night with Bacon to talk about the book and perhaps answer the unanswered questions of his book. Whether this flies on commercial radio without filters, I am not certain. But it would be good radio, for sure.

Hooray!

This should be real fun to listen to people who approch sports from a more logical, data driven viewpoint deal with typical radio callers who are usually more along the lines of 'RAWW THEY NEED TO GET TOUGHER RAWWW'.  Who has the over/under on how many callers it takes until you hear Brain bashing his head on the table?

Also, when are y'all going to stop refering to yourselves as 'bloggers'?  I mean you make a living writing about UM sports, have your own radio show about UM sports...you're sports writters.  What's the difference between y'all and the majority of sports writers out there?  Other than more editorial freedom and far more competance?

They are bloggers, opinion writers, columnists and sometimes newsmen who write for a particular space on the internet, which is digitally published. Except for spelling, certain grammar and content requirements, this enterprise isn't concerned with the same principles that guide daily newspapers and magazines. The writing is frequently more fun and entertaining, if not newsworthy.

I don't mean to say they aren't qualified as journalists or don't do the work of journalists, but Brian and company are not beholden to anyone except themselves and their POV, and their ability to entertain a specific reading audience which is attracted by their thorough knowledge of Michigan sports and culture.

For example, this blog would report the news of fellow journalists and other Michigan-based news publications, and it would enable others to rush to judgment on breaking news items discovered by readers who share the information with clearly less editorial restriction than another medium would apply before using. Nothing wrong with that, it is part of our new social  media fabric

However, to the extent that this blog is responsible and acts as a journal of Michigan sports and provides timely coverage and the ability for others to express opinions without the journalistic filters normally applied to news coverage and opinion in general interest media, this blog is frequently both the first and last place you want to look in order to get that information.

I'll be working during a good part of the show, will you guys be making it available online once the show is over? I like saving Sam Webb's show for long car rides and such.

You may have stumbled upon the thing that might make this the most entertaining radio show ever conceived: Brian and Ace defending their FCC fine bucket from the hordes of WLA callers.

"Hi, Brian, Ace, like to get your take on why THERE ARE NO F*G UNICORNS YET ON THE SIDELINES!!"

"Damn it, Ace, I told you to get the dump button ready! There are no legitimate people who call themselves 'Fidel from Bolivia'."

AHHHHH YES!!

I've suggested multiple times to Ira and on here that mgoblog should be the vacant afternoon show that was once the AA Big Show.

So if you are floating the radio show with your own dollars, didn't you just give yourselves a radio show...? In all seriousness, great job! It will be nice to hear more Michigan friendly insiders/bloggers on the radio. #tacopants

This is going to be very interesting. The blog I have always found to be a broad church but with a very narrow focus. We have our own in jokes and expectations and there is a certain degree of understanding. This is masked a bit in the round table because you have Sam and Ira to 'hold the center'. It will be fun to see where the radio show falls and how its structured.

The podcast has this great college radio feel to it. The music is ocassionally willfully obscure and the language is at times dense and oblique. It honestly seems like each week could come accompanied by a zine. It's this wonderful little cottage industry and I hope that feeling always stays, it was a beautiful antidote to the BRANDon marketting machine.
