Married to the enemy

Submitted by Bosch on
I'm sitting here watching the Alamo Bowl with my wife, who is a State fan. She grew up in the Lansing area and her father is an MSU grad. Every cell in my body wants TT to win, but I cannot openly root for them. Correction, I COULD root for them, but it wouldn't bode well for nocturnal activities. I fully expected TT to have this game well in control by now, but it's not the case. I can't cheer for TT's successes or complain about their failures. Brutal. Just wondering if anyone out their feels my pain? Misery loves company.

As with most women, she is a pretty casual fan. However, her interest peeks in big games, and this qualifies. And honestly, even though MSU losing amuses me on most occasions, I usually am not invested emotionally, (except when they are playing Michigan of course). However, I would really prefer that MSU ends this season with a losing record.

You could always tell her you respect her enough to avoid patronizing her by rooting for a team you don't actually like. "Honey, I thought you knew me well enough to be able to understand our differences..."

I feel sorry for you. Ive been cheering for TT all night! and it feels good. It felt great to see Dantonio at the end of the game. His face was PRICELESS!

After the game against us, I think he tried to smile. But his face was so calcified into a frown position that you could only detect the slightest upturn in the corner of his lips, which appeared to cause him great physical discomfort. He quickly relaxed into the frown position.

Having been married 20 years, the old dictum, "If your wife is happy, you're happy" could come into play. While I rooted for TT, all things being equal, in your particular situation, all things weren't equal. You'll have to get back to us on this.

I would say root openly for Texas Tech. If you really need to, you can jerk off after the game and sleep on the couch. Win-Win.

she stayed up the whole drive back from Michigan to Louisiana listening to the game, getting interested because MSU was looking good. i had to explain what SOS meant. then she learned it through experience. it was like a Discovery channel episode or something. in other news, WJR is able to broadcast all the way down to about an hour north of New Orleans. crazy.

My Girl Friend and literally her entire family are MSU Alums. I was at her house last night for the game, even though it was hard to see Little brother on the field and michigan sitting at home, I felt compelled to root for the big ten. Besides, the better the big ten does in the bowl games the less Michigan's losses hurt.

How does OSU, Sparty, UW winning make it better for Michigan? I can't root for the Big 10 in bowls. I can't turn it off and on based on the opponent or the calendar. It sucks that UM has gone in the tank the last two years but the Big 10 winning bowl games won't make it easier for me to handle. I also subscribe to the theory that Big 10 teams winning actually hurts us in the long run with recruiting and national perception.
