Stanford cashes in on a FG after having a few 10+ yard runs

Clayton Thorson really putting on a clinic for the Wildcats right now - 1 for 2 with 2 yards passing. Fortunately, the rushing game is right there to support them with a whole three yards.

Of course, it isn't like Stanford is knocking Northwestern around right now, but they do at least have more than 10 yards of total offense.

Shaw really hasn't lost a step taking over from Jim Harbaugh and what even more interesting is that schematically they aren't any different. They have stuck to what Harbaugh brought to Stanford and run with it. They probably will be competitive for quite some time.

How many times they mention Harbaugh? A couple times it almost sounded like he was still coaching the Cardinal. Not complaining or trolling, just an observation. Been bouncing between a bunch of games and when Stanford is on and on offense his name seems to come up.

NW almost beat UM last year, and by all accounts out played Michigan. If you recall NW dominated the game but kept making mistakes at critical times, allowing a stagnant UM team to take the lead in the final minutes. This year I look for NW to clean Michigans clock. It was pretty clear today they have a far better team than Michigan. Especially knowing that UM basically runs the same offense that Stanford runs. Gonna be a long 6-7 loss year for the Wolverines sorry to say.

There was only one lane that size...and yes, he missed it. But no Michigan RB has gotten push on the OL since Mike Hart was running off the left side behind Jake Long.

We can knock Smith all we want, but the holes aren't there. And it's not like he's bouncing it outside every carry like Mike Shaw. He's fighting and beast moding his way for 2-3 yards that aren't even there half the time.

Drake Johnson is better fit, yes, because he also is tough as hell and he has more speed where the other 3 don't. But Drake Johnson wasn't going for big yardage versus Utah. There was nothing there.

I'd like to see us go less MANBALL and try to open running lanes via the spread like we did at times with Brandon Minor.

I saw two...only one was the one we all know and discuss. Where were all these holes he missed?

I call bullshit, people just want something to complain about.

Utah has a GREAT RB...he didn't have many holes either. Smith looked just like Booker and vice versa. Both ran hard and made the most of what was there.

They both played REALLY tough front 7s...that's what happens when you don't have a dominant OL and you go up against a dominate DL. Is Booker all of a sudden trash with no vision? No. We were just pretty damn good.

Only difference between the two was Booker was a threat in the passing game and Smith can't catch for shit.
